    The Brewers' next ten games are against the Pirates and Reds. This season is OVER. Yeah, all of our remaining games against the Pirates and Reds will make it impossible to beat them. Oh, and I forgot the Brewers great road record too...Man, we're toast!

    Absolutely...In the playoffs, it's all about getting hot at the right time. It's oftentimes not the best teams record wise who win the WS. We all know the Cubs are overdue for a hot streak, and we have the pieces to be successful in the postseason: solid pitching, a stud hitter (we have 3) and good defense. If two of our big bats and Z get hot, watch out!

    You're kidding, right? Where exactly did Moore or Cherry fit into our future plans? I'm in a wait and see mode on this move. Most people here bashed the Kendall trade as well, and we all know how that's turned out. Maybe we catch lightning in a bottle with Trachsel. He's had a solid August. If not, no biggie. He just sits on the bench. For those who want Gallagher, I'm not sure we want to rely on raw rookies the last few weeks of the season and into the playoffs. I'll take my chances with a guy who's been there.

    Boy, what a game! This one is going to boost us and be the death blow for the Brewers. Now only if our big 3 will start hitting the ball they way they are capable of....Let's go get them tomorrow Z!

    Garcia is a free agent in 2008, and KW got some great prospects in return. He wasn't going to sign a deal anyway, Williams sold high and got a great deal. Floyd sucks and Gio Gonzalez needs to play in the majors before I go calling him great.

    Absolutely...We've been playing without one of our all-star players the last 3 weeks. Today doesn't change anything...we lost a close game to the second best team in the NL. Let the Cardinals try to get back to 500 before we start the panic attacks.

    I wouldn't exactly call the second most wins in the majors a terrible season, but it should certainly be better.

    Maybe Z can afford a sports shrink with some of that $91M because he's way too much at the extremes

    Damn good? $100m and we're barely over .500, and he's been damn good? Could he predict that Soriano, Ram and D-Lee would all be injured and/or suspended? I think having them in the lineup would have resulted in a few more Ws....not to mention we're on pace for a ~ 20 game improvement from last year. The Sox are at $105, but KW is considered a genius.

    I've always felt that KW gets more credit than he deserves because he's an aggressive, ego-driven guy when most GMs are content to sit in the background. Then came 2005...He gambled on previously solid players who were undervalued because of injury (Dye), performance (Contreras, El-Duque, Pods) or hated (AJ) and signed them to economical deals. We all know how that turned out, and he deserves his just due. However, how's he done since then? How would this team look with Lee in LF, Rowland in CF and Maggs in RF? Or if he still made the Thome trade, you'd have Chris Young and his 26 HRs in CF. That's a lot of talent that KW has let leave the southside.

    I don't ever recall getting the sense that people here believed Jones was 'done'. They just thought he wasn't worth the money. One major difference between the two is that our GM didn't trade one of our best hitters for a below-average leadoff hitter and trumpet it as a smart move. Well, argue about chemistry all you want, but the year after that trade the White Sox won the World Series. If Jim Hendry could make a trade like that, even if for a worse player, would you really argue? It freed up money to get Contreras and OHernandez. Those 2 guys had career years as did Podsednik. What Sox fans are doing in their revisionist history is saying that Podsednik gave them a better chance to win than CLee without bringing up the money savings. Which is just plain stupid. Of course most Sox fans think Erstad is a good player when healthy. It reminds me of a long-running debate I've had with my Sox-loving father-in-law who to this day...and some 550 HR later...he still proclaims that the George Bell for Sammy trade was worthwhile because the Sox were in a playoff push. Of course, a number of 40+ HR seasons would have possibly helped the Sox win more division titles throughout the 90s.

    I'm starting to get that winning feeling....two great come from behind wins to start the road trip after we took the series from the still-hot Cards. Come on Z....let's get the sweep tomorrow! GO CUBS!

    Too bad we couldn't even muster a couple of measly runs so that Marquis could get a much deserved win. This team sure needs a spark right about now.

    When we have to know Izzy is going for a two inning save, why would Ram and DeRosa go swinging early in the count?

    I got into a discussion with a Sox buddy today (I know, why bother) about what the expectations are for our Chicago baseball teams the next few seasons. I said the Cubs should be contenders the next 2-3 years at least. What does everyone think? Here's my reasoning: > Starting pitching: should be better next year with Hill and Marshall developing to offset Lilly cooling off > Bullpen: Solid with Marmol hopefully becoming a dominant closer and Demp, Howry, Wuertz, Wood and a lefty or two in the pen. > Core hitters: Our big three are all still in their prime and should deliver all-star caliber seasons. > Good influx of young talent. Looking to next year, all we need is to firm up RF and decide if we go with a Kendall/Soto platoon behind the plate. Thoughts?
