  1. Nice quick inning for Ted....now get him some support!
  2. Nice to see us getting some early run support against a miserable pitcher, huh?
  3. Completely laughable....Somehow in the 5 seconds it took for Barrett to get bowled over, have Pudzinski slap home plate and lower his shoulder into him, Michael was supposed to think about the kids watching instead of doing what many of us on this board would have done....What a joke! Bring back Bernie!
  4. Hendry did okay getting D-Lee and A-Ram for garbage. So he got lucky with those (and Nomar at the time), but weigh his good trades/signings against his bad ones. See which way your scale tips. So it's luck when he lands two all-star players for nothing, but displays his true ability on the deals that don't work out? Hey, I'm not saying that Hendry hasn't had his share of bad deals, but how many GMs can score two players like Lee and Ram?
  5. You bring up an interesting question. Let's say that Sammy was on the juice for a few years. How many HRs do you think can be attributed directly to the roids? Keep in mind that Sammy hit a number of bombs---most didn't exactly fall into the basket. So, did the roids give Sammy another 50 HRs? Maybe 75? Well, that still means he hit more than 500 "clean" that would have gone out regardless. Now, I'm not condoning his taking of roids, but we can't lose sight of the fact that Sammy was an amazing HOF player regardless of the roids.
  6. Did I think it was time for Sammy to go after the 2004 walkout....yes. Would I want my son to idolize Sammy...no. Was Sammy's corked bat and steriod suspicion a kick in the nuts....yes. But I will stand and cheer when he hits #600, and part of me wants him to do it against the Cubs so I can see it live. We all know Sammy is far from perfect, but he brought me the most enjoyment I've had as a Cubs fan during the past 30 years. And I've been pleased to see him rebound nicely this year, he deserved better than what happened in 04 and 05.
  7. are there umpires standing beneath the outfield fence? Give me a break. They can't see whether a fan grazes a ball 250 feet away. If you're in the front row, you don't reach forward to grab a baseball. That's not difficult. That's why I wouldn't be opposed to ump video replay to get the calls right. SORI BOMB!
  8. Yeah, we're in deep trouble with the game tied at 1.
  9. I didn't see the game, but didn't he give up 1 hit and no walks in five innings today? That's not exactly what I'd call crappy. If DeRosa makes the DP instead of the error, Marquis is the likely winner.
  10. These one-run victories are a piece of cake! (And I have to say that Howry is looking more like the Howry of old lately as well) Great W!
  11. They're standing at Wrigley...Let's go Howry!
  12. Solid W tonight Cubs...now let's go take the series tomorrow! We need Soriano to break out of his mini slump.
  13. As mediocre as this year has been, there's no way it's a lost season. We're one good week away from the division lead. No question we have to figure out a way to win the close games, but let's also keep in mind that we haven't had our big three playing together for the majority of the season. I love our top 4 when A-Ram is back and Barrett and even JJ should return to more of their career averages as well. Good times are ahead...
  14. This season can really be summed up by the play that gave the Mariners the 4-3 lead. First off, Ohman should have been out of the game by then. Ohman had only pitched more than one inning twice this whole year. Then our .230 waste of a RF double clutches before throwing a three-hopper to the plate, which our blundering catcher can't seem to corral. Of course, if they made the play, we might still be watching this sorry state of a baseball team perform. Even after saying all of this, the game was lost in the 8th when we couldn't even score the game-winning run from third with no outs...brutal!
  15. Great outing by Howry! Now, let's go win the game!
  16. Come on Cubs...let's hold them here and win it in the 9th!
  17. Wow, you guys have a way of turning a positive post into a steaming pile of crap in no time at all. There's no question that the Cubs farm system has been completely devoid of position talent in recent decades, but I personally like seeing this much young talent producing for the Cubs on the field---instead of all the hype and hope of Prior and Wood. (Not to mention, it's also nice to see the Sox farm system struggle so mightly.)
  18. Amid all the banter about brawls, hat kicking and bullpen blow up is the fact that this is the best young group of players we have seen in quite a while. Pie should likely become our best position prospect of the last 10-15 years (maybe dating back to Grace). Therriot has fast become a nice everyday starter. Fontenot is now making a solid contribution. Guzman and now Marshall have solidified the #5 starter role, Hill is fast emerging as one of the best young lefties in the game and Marmol has been solid out of the pen. The future looks bright!
  19. Nice comebacker tonight....let the kids play and good things will happen! (Hard to believe we won with JJ batting cleanup, d'oh!) Let's beat up on Seattle now!
  20. Or another for Howry. Come on, Howry pitched 2 innings for only the second time all year, and you want him to go 3? What, so we could all ridicule Lou when Howry starts throwing BP?
  21. DeRosa IMO has been a valuable asset to this team so far. He can adequetely play 4 positions and is third on the team in RBI. Sure, we overpaid for him, but every good team needs a player with his versatility.
  22. Why did I know the Cubs would blow the lead after wasting a perfect opportunity to put the game away in the top of the inning?
