  1. My man crush for this Cubs team continues to grow...
  2. That would be a mistake on the Sox part. He will likely be the only "dependable" (in quotes due to his poor hitting this season) player in the sox lineup after this season. Dye is light years away from his MVP-caliber season of '06, Thome is a year closer to retirement, AJ is still a pud, and there are gaping holes everywhere else. Of course, I'd welcome the move, so I can see the Sox and their fans suffer for the forseeable future.
  3. Kendall sure hasn't set the world of fire (I thought he was hitting better of late in Oakland, which we haven't seen), but do we really want to make a push for the playoffs with Bowen/Hill/Soto/Blanco? I still prefer Kendall. He has the experience we need down the stretch. Let's just hope he finds his bat soon.
  4. What if Dye is the extra bat we need to make the playoffs? Would E-Pat be worth it?
  5. If we can let the Mateo discussion die, what would it take to get Dye? Would Eric Patterson and a second tier pitching prospect be enough? In the Trib blog today, Phil Rogers questions whether KW has the balls to trade Dye to the Cubs to fill in really the only missing piece for our playoff run.
  6. Most of the trade suggestions on talk radio are complete garbage, but a Sox fan called up yesterday and posed a return of Garland to the northside for Marmol. Would you do it? As much as I'd hate to lose a potential stud closer in Marmol, I'd make the trade. Garland would be the perfect #3; he doesn't overwhelm you with his stuff, but he eats up innings and posts a solid ERA. Plus, as much as I hate to admit, he has playoff experience as well. And I think we could survive with Demp and Howry holding down the back of the pen.
  7. wanting to put your 753rd homerun in your trophy case makes you a jerk? maybe other things, but that seems reasonable. No, it was the way he said "I thought they threw the balls back here. They lied." That's what came off as kind of jerk-ish. Wanting the ball doesn't make him a jerk. Wow, Bonds really cant say anything without being made into a jerk. It was pretty obvious he said that jokingly, and in noway meant anything by it. Correct. Like I've said before, people are just looking for reasons to hate Barry. You really don't need to come up with reasons to hate Barry, it does it just fine by himself.
  8. Yeah, but have you seen his average or RBI rate lately?
  9. No offense, but I don't know what's worse, your RWW name or the Hawk picture...both kinda make me sick though
  10. I love when this team plays fundamental baseball!
  11. Guess we won't be trading for Matt Morris anytime soon. Man, was he bad today.
  12. Great move! Let's bring up Cedeno and his en fuego bat!
  13. There's an easy fix to the problem. Arest them for littering. The Cubs have cameras monitoring the bleachers, not to mention the ushers looking right up into the stands. Fine the morons $250 and let word get around like the idiot that was charged with a felony for running onto the field. I'ts embarrassing...
  14. Blevins was having an outstanding year at AA. I wouldn't have traded him straight up for Kendall. Add the fact that we're going to have to pay Kendall, and it turns out to be a terrible trade. Kendall is old, is just as bad defensively as Barrett, and has no power whatsoever. I have no idea what Hendry is thinking. He should be removed from his GM duties immediately. I'm sorry, what exactly has Blevins done in the major leagues? Did I miss something? The guy has had arm problems and isn't even sniffing the bigs, so why is everyone crying over this guy?
  15. Great post (from one MU-grad to another...class of 92). I like the trade for the simple reason that we now have a veteran presence behind the plate. Someone who has been successful in the NL for some time. We've got a much better chance with Kendall than we do with a weak-hitting Bowen or inexperienced Soto. Let's see how this pans out before we go calling Hendry the worst GM in the game and this the worst trade since Brock. Jeez, you'd think we just lost our 4th game in a row the way everyone is acting.
  16. Wow, I've never seen so much love for a minor league relief pitcher in my life.
  17. Breaking News......ESPN just reported that Bonds is out of the lineup for tonight's game.
  18. The future salary makes him an absolutely worthless player. He's been terrible since he had his consecutive win streak snapped in the middle of last year. Dye, OTOH, intrigues me if it doesn't cost much. He should come back to his .280 average with HR pop.
  19. It's easy to criticize, but much harder to offer solutions. So, what would you have done "at a fraction of the cost" to put the Cubs in the same position they are currently in? (If Marquis sucks with 6 wins and a .367 ERA, then there are one heck of a lot of terrible pitchers in the game today.)
  20. I don't believe that. I think it's more of coincidence over anything else. I don't think it's far fetched that Soriano would be a little more motivated playing next to a player he has taken under his wing. I heard that Pie was staying with Zo, at first they were batting next to each other and playing next to each other in the OF. Soriano seemed to pick up shortly after Pie was recalled, and you can't discount the Cubs winning percentage with Pie in the lineup. I was disappointed to see Pie sent down (especially so we could carry 3 catchers). The kid has done everything he could in the minors, and it was time to let him grow into a MLB player. Few rookies come into the league on fire each year, and we could have used his glove and speed in the lineup until the bat warmed up. His average seemed to slip when his PT diminished. And it's not like we have a stellar replacement for him. JJ is worthless this season and Pagan isn't an everyday player.
