  5. 06/03/2006 9:12 PM ET Pujols out with strained right oblique Cardinals slugger likely heading to disabled list By Matthew Leach / MLB.com http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/images/2006/06/03/7kg2TT3k.jpg ST. LOUIS -- They've weathered one injury after another the past season and a half, but the Cardinals have never had to do without Albert Pujols for more than a few days. That's almost certainly about to change. Pujols was removed from the Cardinals' game on Saturday against the Cubs due to a strained right oblique muscle, and it's unclear when he will be able to return. He will almost certainly be placed on the disabled list for the first time in his career, if not Sunday, then no later than Tuesday. "There is serious concern," said Dr. George Paletta, "and it is the type of injury that we need to evaluate initially and again 18-24 hours later to get a better handle on it." "He's going to miss a significant period of time," said manager Tony La Russa. "Anywhere from little significant to real significant. We can't tell for another 18-24 [hours]. But it's something we've got to deal with." [More in URL]
  6. La Russa on Pujols (post-game) It'll be at least two weeks for AP. And that's optimistic. Actually, La Russa told us that he'd be happy if it's only two weeks. "If he's out (only) two weeks I'll buy you dinner the rest of the year," La Russa said. "I don't think, listening to Dr. Paletta, that in two weeks Albert will be able to go." Pujols left the stadium early. --B [Here]
  7. This is meant as a joke honestly but here's what I see happening.. even though I'm a Cards fan! 1. Juan Pierre CF 2. Neifi Perez 3B 3. Todd Walker 1B 4. Ronny Cedeno SS 5. Tony Womack 2B 6. 9. Top 3rd: St. Louis - J. Marquis hit for B. Thompson - J. Marquis tripled to deep right center Top 5th: St. Louis - A. Wainwright homered to deep left Top 9th: St. Louis - B. Looper doubled to deep right How's that for hitting by your pitchers?
  10. Here http://www.plbsports.com/images/feature_EcksOs.jpg Discuss
  11. From the looks of the offense, I'm not sure the Cubs players are using bats anymore. Maybe they'll do better with the pinks?
  12. I thought Wainright was a logical choice. Guess not. Wainwright is already up dominating in the pen.. Cards dont really need a 5 man rotation for another week.. Rincon is out for the year so Johnson seems like the right logical choice..
  13. Cardinals place Ponson on DL with strained elbow Posted: Tuesday May 9, 2006 5:02 PM ST. LOUIS (AP) -St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Sidney Ponson was put on the disabled list Tuesday with a strained muscle in his right elbow. Ponson, off to a 3-0 start, had to leave Sunday's 9-1 victory over the Florida Marlins after throwing three innings. The Cardinals later said he strained the acute flexor muscle in his throwing elbow. St. Louis recalled left-hander Tyler Johnson from Triple-A Memphis to take Ponson's spot. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/baseball/mlb/wires/05/09/2010.ap.bbn.cardinals.ponson.0121/
  14. Rincon says he will undergo surgery Cards would be left looking for another left-handed reliever By Matthew Leach / MLB.com http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/images/2006/03/01/pl8UZOdi.jpg ST. LOUIS -- It appears likely that Ricardo Rincon is headed for shoulder surgery. It is all but certain that if Rincon has an operation, he will be out for the season. Rincon, placed on the disabled list on April 28 with what the club called an "impingement" in his left shoulder, showed virtually no improvement from when he was placed on the DL until a follow-up exam completed on Monday. "He made no progress in the last 10 days," said head athletic trainer Barry Weinberg. "He's not any closer. So the next option would probably be to have surgery. If he has to get to the point where he has to have surgery, it will end his season." "Maybe the season is over for me," Rincon said. [More in URL]
  15. Cards' Ponson has muscle strain in elbow ST. LOUIS --Tests on Sidney Ponson's right elbow revealed an acute flexor muscle strain that will force him to miss at least one start, the St. Louis Cardinals announced today. Ponson experienced discomfort in the bottom of the third inning Sunday in Florida and was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the top of the fourth. "It's not likely he will make his next start," Cardinals trainer Barry Weinberg said. "He threw a pitch and one of the muscles surrounding the elbow was strained." http://www.belleville.com/mld/belleville/sports/14531221.htm
