  1. That may be true, but the point is that the wins have to go somewhere, so if one team is well below .500 that means their opponents are picking up extra wins. It doesn't really help us for a team to completely tank the 2nd half of the season. I meant that the Cardinals and Astros (or whoever is atop the NL Central standings down the stretch) may have easier opponents than they may have now. My point was that while the Cubs aren't mathematically eliminated at this time, they might as well be. The team isn't good enough to get back in this race. I misunderstood your point then, I completely agree. :?
  2. I feel the same way. Even though it seems early in the season, barring a miracle we have already eliminated ourselves from the playoff race. What's the difference if we finish .500 or 20 games below if we don't make the playoffs either way? If it takes a terrible season in order to rebuild a championship-caliber team, then I'm all for it. Hanging around .500 every year doesn't do anything for me...

  4. Is it too early to consider the possibility that Pierre could start the entire season for the Cubs in CF and end up with less than 10 RBI?
  5. In Neifi's post game comments, on two seperate occasions he said "there's nothing we can do." There's the Dusty Baker attitude at its best.
  6. as in Rage or crying Although I wish it was crying, I believe it was rage... still waiting for details.
  7. Rumor has it that Dusty was so upset in the post-game press conference that the Cubs PR people had to cut it short.
  8. On the "drunken female fan" incident, I think the fairly obvious explanation was that the girl was underage and the Cubs did not want to take the heat for serving an underage girl. While that is a possibility, I think "fairly obvious" is an overstatement.
  9. ...or have the Yankees and Red Sox been playing each other on ESPN for like 7 straight days?
  10. Good one. Every time there's a confrontation of some sort, Baker mysteriously doesn't see it.
  11. Wow, the Padres radio announcer is bad...
  12. Ozzie made a really dumb comment about how his son knows more about baseball than Dempster, because Dempster is only a player but baseball is his son's life. You mean to tell me that Dempster makes a living playing baseball and has played his entire life, but baseball isn't his life too???
  13. They're waiting for the next 2 game winning streak which may happen around....2010. That's exactly what will happen, wait for a little winning streak and then give Baker an extension. But does Hendry really think we're that dumb? Quite frankly, it's insulting to me as a Cubs fan. I normally go to between 5-10 games a year and I'm 100% serious when I say that I won't buy a single ticket next year if Baker is extended. I'll still watch the games on TV, but I won't spend my money on the team again until they earn it from me. I know I'm just one person, but it's still one less person putting money in the Tribune's pockets...
  14. "Dude I don't know man. Sometimes with the humidity its really hard to grip the ball.... oh and you know also the bat too. I really think we just need to you know get out of the humidity and play in some domes. Well warm domes of course. It's really hard to run in those domes if the AC is on dude." We need more Cuban players. They player better in high humidity.
  15. Following up on Len & Bob's exciting conversation... You're supposed to run in a zigzag pattern to get away from an alligator, and play dead if a bear catches you... but what happens when the bear starts to eat you?
  16. He's also got a .213 BAA and 1.12 WHIP. I like Marshall but you have to look at his game logs to put his numbers in perspective. Rotoworld correctly pointed out that he's had an exceptionally easy schedule thus far. So have the Cubs as a whole... and how's that working out for us???
  17. Take away that horrible outting in San Francisco, and his previous 4 starts have been nothing short of dominating. Honestly where would we be without him? It makes Hendry's offseason look even worse when you consider that nobody expected Marshall to make this team in the offseason. ya marshall would be a AAA I'm not saying that. Marshall has pitched well enough to be a Major League pitcher. In a way he has bailed Hendry (a little bit) out by coming out of nowhere in the offseason.

  19. Subtract the one really bad start and his ERA would be very respectable. He's coming off a game where he took a no-hitter into the 6th inning. I don't think he's a fluke at all.
  20. Barrett pegged Ramirez in the hand trying to throw him out stealing second. Teams are going to start forfeiting games just so Barrett doesn't physically hurt them. That's the only way we can win games. Good thing we're still fired up from the fight. It's showing.
  21. :?: Sometimes I just randomly yell "Take that Dusty" when I accomplish menial tasks at home. Something about it just makes me feel better...
  22. Can we combine Murton's and Jones' arms into one average throwing arm?
  23. I really hope Jones got a talk after that bs play. Knowing Dusty, he got a complimentary slap on the butt for keeping a DP situation. Lets rag on the guy who won us the game yesterday, and a few more this season if my memory is correct. He has also been our best hitter for at least 2 weeks. But no, lets get on Jones' back. Being a good player doesn't make someone immune to criticism of multiple stupid plays.
