I hope this is just a matter of Hendry putting claims out on several players and then evaluating his options from there. This would be a horrible move for the Cubs, especially if they were to give up anything with any amount of value in return. If I were Kenny Williams, I'd probably just let him go... "You claimed him, he's all yours!"
I'd like to think our starters are better then this... Yes, but our offense is also incapable of scoring more than 2 runs on most nights, so our starters will have to be a lot better.
Like Lou has a choice. He has a choice when it comes to putting in Marmol/Howry when the Cubs are up by 4 runs, instead of using Wuertz/Ohman/Ehre in those situations. Would you feel comfortable using any of these three? With a 4 run lead, yes. Ok, so maybe not Ohman... but Wuertz and Ehre are perfectly capable of protecting a large lead.

Yep. Milwaukee is going to get hot again eventually and they will pull away unless the Cubs can turn it around. This has been a great opportunity to hold onto a division lead and start building a cushion, but none of that has happened.
I was indifferent to the Cliff Floyd signing, but I expected a LOT more than this out of him. He has always been a good hitter when reasonably healthy, and this year he has been reasonably healthy, so what happened?
I thought that was unusual too, but it was refreshing to hear some logical comments for a change. I'm sure we'll be back to the Barry Bonds love fest on Baseball Tonight though.
I agree. I get tired of reading posts with these Moneyball stats being the only way to evaluate a player. Sure OPS is a useful stat, but I refuse to believe that any one stat can truly reflect someone's value.
Is anyone else worried that Wood has never really had to work in any of his rehab appearances? What happens when he gets activated and has a tough 30-35 pitch inning? It doesn't seem like his shoulder has been tested very much so far.
I'm still trying to temper my excitement for Wood's return, but he would truly give us an abundance of 8th inning caliber setup men. Howry, Marmol, Wood, and even Wuertz on occasion... that's a very impressive pen.
Interesting... That's not at all what was reported tonight during the ESPN broadcast. They said that he would make a 2 inning appearance on Thursday or Friday and could be called up afterwards if all goes well. That didn't make much sense to me, waiting almost a week between relief appearances, so I'll have to go with Paul Sullivan on this one.
It's also Bruce Levine. He hasn't been right about trade rumors or Chicago baseball moves since he reported Brock for Broglio in 2002 (had to wait for official confirmation). You mean the same Bruce Levine who rather emphatically insisted that Ryan Theriot wasn't and couldn't play Shortstop on an every day basis?
Len said that if Kerry feels OK tomorrow, he will pitch back to back on Thursday and Friday. That's a pretty big step. Question: Are the Cubs going to keep moving Kerry up the minor league ladder or are they going to fast track him to the big club so they can take advantage of whatever bullets he has available in his arm? Hopefully the first option, and won't the Cubs have to make a 40 man roster move before they can activate him?
