  1. I agree. This is the worst year I can recall. Out of 7 total series, there was only 1 worth watching.
  2. I realize it's a common name, but this doesn't happen to be Steve Wilson the Cubs LHP from the early 90's does it?
  3. Each row of seats is slightly lower than the one behind it, if the current front row is as low as you can go before fans suddenly can't see what's going on, they need to go lower to fit another row. At least, that's what I've been understanding. But they still have to go further out into the field of play and at some point they have to run out of room. Eventually it will be like arena football and there will be no foul territory at all.
  4. Call me an idiot, but how does lowering the field allow for more seating? The playing field area is the same regardless of how high or low it is.
  5. I'm all for the team being sold as quickly as possible, but regardless of whether the sale is completed over the winter I expect Hendry will still be here next season in order to ease the transition into new management. The big question will be his available budget.
  6. It is my hope that a good radio host be brought in so that Mike Murphy no longer has to be used at all.
  7. So we have that going for us, which is nice...
  8. Macowiak to the rescue! I can just see it now, splitting time with Pie in Centerfield with Macowiak getting 75% of the starts.
  9. Ward is 32 and would be a huge loss if the Cubs aren't able to re-sign him. Hopefully the Cubs can also work out a conservative multi-year deal with Wood, let Floyd go, and find a trading partner for Jones. 1 year @ $6.33 million isn't extremely unreasonable for a .285 hitter, so he shouldn't be nearly as untradeable as he has been in the past.
  10. So now that the Cubs have completed their postseason collapse, how much will ticket prices increase next year? Another $2-$3 for terrace reserved and $5-$10 for the rest? I hope everyone is happy with Hendry's huge backloaded contracts, because us fans will be paying for their increases every year...
  11. Maybe it's the fact that I was out of town and watching the games by myself late at night, but I never truly got the feel that we were even involved in post-season baseball. Every game just had a sense of inevitibility to it and it really never felt like the Cubs were in the series.
  12. Those are just suggestions from writer Tom Krasovich: http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/padres/20071003-9999-1s3padres.html Isn't Maddux a free agent after the season? Has he made any comments about retiring or does he plan on coming back? If for nothing else, I'd like to see him pitch at least 1 more year to pass Clemens on the all-time wins list.
  13. I feel the same way because every big signing Hendry makes puts the team's new ownership and next General Manager deeper into a hole. Backloaded contracts mean that we're sacrificing future payroll and flexibility, making it entirely possible that we'll have to go through some real down years and rebuilding.
  14. Yeah, Wood has looked great lately and that's really nice to see. I still find myself wondering whether he could give us 5 or 6 innings in a postseason start, but I know that's unrealistic... at least for this year.
  15. so 4 CT wed 6 CT thurs not official like he said, though I don't buy it. It doesn't make sense for anyone other than the Cubs/Dbacks to play the late game on Thursday night. That's the only game that could be hosted at a reasonable local time. I don't think it's realistic for a game to start at 10:30 local time. I imagine there would be curfew issues preventing such a start time.
  16. After not caring for that song the first time I heard it, only a few days later I am absolutely addicted to that entire album. Recommended. I bought their previous album and was pretty disappointed. I guess I was hoping for something a little closer to Frogstomp.
  17. Craig Monroe shines in the playoffs dude.
  18. Win it for me this year, then Santo and everyone else next year. :D
  19. Even though I would feel better playing the Rockies, I can't root against Maddux's Padres!
  20. Will tomorrow's playoff game be on ESPN or TBS?
  21. +1000 Wood has to be brought back next year. I hope so, but regardless of whether or not the Cubs resign him he has earned himself a pretty decent contract. If the Cubs aren't going to pay him setup/closer money, someone else will.
  22. Yesterday on the radio, someone mentioned an interesting "bait and switch" playoff scenario using Marquis and Hill. I don't think a team would ever do it, but possibly start Marquis to get the opponent to put their left handed hitters in the lineup, then remove him very early in favor of Hill. We would lose our long reliever, but the opponent would have to choose whether to let their lefties face Hill or pinch hit for them and lose them for the game. Like I said, I doubt this would ever happen, but it would be a very interesting strategic move.
  23. My guess is that the first two days will go like this: Weds, October 3rd: 12:30 Rockies/Padres @ Phillies 4:00 Red Sox @ Angels 7:30 Cubs @ D'Backs Thurs, October 4th: 2:30 Rockies/Padres @ Phillies 6:30 Yankees @ Indians 9:30 Cubs @ D'Backs That's the most ratings friendly schedule given where the series are being played. + 1 (maybe switch the BOS/LAA and CHC/ARI games around on Wednesday, but otherwise, looks about perfect from this angle) Exactly what I was thinking... although will MLB be hesitant to put the Rockies/Padres in the 1st game considering they have to play tomorrow? I see your reason for hesitation, but would you punish either of BOS/LAA or CHC/ARI by having them start at 10:30a locally?? Its a bind, but the only thing makes sense is to make the SD (or COL)/PHI series kick it off; it'd be 1:30p local time in Philly. Moreover, I suspect the Cubs/D'backs is a better TV draw than the Red Sox/Angels. I'm not sure about that... I think the Cubs & Red Sox are pretty much a wash, but the Angels will draw more viewers than the Dbacks. It could go either way though.
