  1. Someone needs to teach the folks at the CDC about reducing fractions.
  2. Deng hasn't done anything in the past 2 years to convince me that he will be an integral part of the core. Those are also 3 players that are below average defensively, especially Deng.
  3. I have exactly the opposite fear. I'm afraid that Paxson is under a lot of pressure to make a deal and will give up a lot, including Thomas, for Stoudamire. That will essentially take the Bulls out of the 2010 free agent running and I don't know that Rose & Stoudamire will ever be enough to win a title.
  4. I can... He is a selfish player in a contract year.
  5. Why is Gordon handling the ball?
  6. If the Bulls trade Thomas for Stoudamire, it will only get worse...
  7. And that will be $63 million tied up in 4 players... 2 above average starting pitchers, an unproductive outfielder, and another outfielder on the downside of his career. If neither Ramirez nor Bradley opt out of their contracts, that puts the Cubs at around $90 million for a total of 6 players. Either way, that's a very significant portion of the payroll for a small number of non-superstar players. How is it overreacting to worry about those contracts?
  8. You, sir, have won an entire bag of internets. A big budget has covered up a lot of Hendry's shortcomings. If he was in a mid-market he'd have been canned long ago. Yes, I know the whole Aram, Nomar, Lee, Harden thing was possible BECAUSE of a big payroll, but if we had someone competent in there, I bet we could have gotten those guys and a few other complimentary pieces that would be looking mighty good right now. Oh, and maybe our farm system wouldn't be the equivalent of a bunch of kindergarteners playing whiffle ball. This is a very good point. Hendry has made some big mistakes that would have crippled a team with a smaller payroll, although one could argue if that was the case he wouldn't have had the money to make the mistake in the first place. I still think Hendry has done a decent job, but the worst is yet to come with some of his backloaded contracts. Either the team will get worse or the fans will have to shoulder the load of bad contracts.
  9. Very true. The Cubs dominated the playoffs last year, so why would they even think about improving the team?
  10. Big step back from Plesac, but I can live with it.
  11. I doubt it, but I'm thinking that if this move may have been to free up Marshall if they value him more than Olson.
  12. I'm curious how this will compare to OOTP, but I don't expect anywhere near the same features.
  13. Reading this article only makes me wonder what potential gems of insight we would get from a Rosenbloom & Murph show. Somewhere in radio hell, that show is playing 24/7.
  14. So how did the Cubs determine who to include in the 13 game offer? I bought the 9 game plan last year, but didn't get any emails this year.
  15. Even without assuming a Peavy trade, this makes the Cubs better. They got probably as much value out of Pie as they possibly could have. It does make the Cubs better right now, since Pie had no place on the roster, but that's not what Rob was saying. Lou never gave Pie an extended opportunity to prove himself one way or the other.
  16. You will need to download the free Windows Media Encoder software and setup the encoding task. Somewhere in the options you can choose the internal port number and you will need to remember this port. I have my encoding task scheduled to start encoding automatically at 8am M-F. From there, you will need to login to your router settings and find the "Virtual Server" option. You will need to enter your internal IP address for the PC that you're streaming from, and then the private port is the one that you chose to stream to in Windows Media Encoder. For the public port, you will probably want to choose 80, since that is rarely blocked. Once you have that setup and running, you can open the URL in Windows Media Player (using your external IP this time), for example "http:\\xx.xx.xxx.xx:80". Hopefully that helps, but I'm sure I left some details out, so feel free to send me a PM if you have any more questions.
  17. I thought about trying Gameday Audio on my cellphone at work, since I can't get AM radio reception and they block most websites. Instead I setup a radio at home with a line in to my PC that streams audio to an external IP. If the Cubs are playing, I just turn my radio on WGN before I leave for work in the morning and then open the IP through Windows Media Player at work... works like a charm!
  18. I can go along with this plan for season tickets, since the waiting list is so long that people at the end won't reach the front for several lifetimes, but I have a philosophical problem with individual game tickets being distributed based on a subscription/point system. Raise ticket prices all you want, but don't make me pay for the "right" to buy tickets.
  19. I don't see where this has been discussed, but it doesn't sound like a good thing for the average fan. It looks like Sam Zell trying to squeeze every penny out of the team before the sale is complete. Here is a link to the full article. http://cubtown.baseballtoaster.com/archives/1187307.html
  20. The BCS has ruined college football for me. New Years Day used to be a day to set aside and watch football all day long, but now the games are stretched out over weeks and it's just too much.
  21. I'm a Dish Network subscriber and also have basic Comcast cable along with my internet service. I was thinking about upgrading to digital cable service in order to get MLB Network, but the Comcast rep told me that it is only on the Digital Classic tier and above, which would cost $75/month. So much for MLB Network being on the basic tier...
  22. I don't know if he is more or less reliable than any other source, but I do know that he sure is wrong a lot.
  23. I sure hope Kaplan is wrong. This would leave the Cubs with absolutely no power off the bench. Hoffpauir has to be there in the Daryle Ward role.
  24. the beauty of DirecTV is that for the 4+ years I've had it, I've never had to deal with the channel controversies. Big Ten Network, NFL Network, MLB.....all part of the standard lineup. DirecTV >>>>>>>>>> Dish when it comes to sports. No comparison.I can't deny that, but I'm extremely hesistant to switch to Direct TV and give up my dual-tuner 622 receiver. Dish Network's superior equipment is really the only thing they have going for them.
  25. I would be looking forward to it, except that I'm a Dish Network subscriber and probably have little chance of seeing the new channel added...
