  1. Hank just got ripped pretty good on Baseball Tonight, with the guys pretty much saying that you can't cry for a rule change evertime something goes against the Yankees... but at the end of the segment when asked about the DH rule, they appeared to agree that "there needs to be some type of uniformity." So which is it?
  2. I knew this was coming... much the same way instant replay was never seriously considered until a blown call occured in New York. On another note, these comments sound like they are coming from an immature fan, not the chairman of a billion dollar franchise.
  3. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3441390 All I can say is don't charge the mound then... Crisp deserved to get hit and had no reason to be out there.
  4. What's the pitch count? 106, or something around there. He's over 100. Seems a little strange after Lou just talking about how they wanted to give Dempster some extra rest... If that's the case, why leave him in for a meaningless inning?
  5. If that pitch had hit anyone else, would it have broken their hand? It seems like anything that could potentially injure Soriano does.
  6. Not sure... I would expect Lou might want to stay with 13 pitchers through the interleague series.
  7. As much as I have been critical of Soriano and think the Cubs are often a better team without him in the lineup, I think this is a bad time to lose him heading into interleague play. He was a perfect candidate to DH and would have had more opportunities to drive in runs without a pitcher batting in front of him.
  8. This is thinking really far ahead and making a lot of assumptions, but hey, I don't care... the Cubs should pray that wild card comes out of the Central. If it does, they'll play the NL West champion, which is sure to be weaker than the wild card winner. Yes, I know that's thinking way too far ahead. That's what we though last year, but I really don't want to face Arizona again in a short series.
  9. Is it too early to say that the Wild Card will come out of the NL Central? At this point, I really can't see anyone else putting up a fight. It will probably be between the Cubs, Cardinals, and Brewers for 2 playoff spots.
  10. Let's say hypothetically that the Cubs were to convert Marmol to a starter... Would that be the top story on ESPN? Would they even mention it more than a passing comment? I would say the answer to both of those questions is no, yet Marmol is every bit as good as Chamberlain or better, so why is this such a big story?
  11. I don't know how closely everyone has been following Greg Maddux this year, but I try to catch his starts on MLB.tv whenever possible. We all know he plays in a pitcher's park, but even with that aside he has looked outstanding the entire season except for one poor start when he took one for the team after the 22 inning game. With tonight's start, he lowered his ERA to 3.33 and left the game with a lead, but San Diego's bullpen gave it up again. I think this is 4 out of the last 5 starts that he has left the game with the lead and not got a win. I hate to see this, as I want to watch him continue to move up the all-time wins list. Does anyone know why he is coming out of games with such low pitch counts (70 tonight)? Is he being pulled for strategic reasons or is he telling Bud Black that he doesn't have anything left? It's obvious that he still has something left in the tank after all these years, but I'd love to see him be able to finish some of these games off.
  12. Hmm... wondering if the green screen corresponds with the launch of the new "WGN America"?
  13. I agree. The old screen is at least offset somewhat to the side, but now we have a huge green sign directly behind the hitter.
  14. Yes, and the new one is very distracting... I hope it is only temporary. I still miss the days of being able to watch a game without seeing any ads behind the hitter.
  15. In the old days, you weren't a real closer unless you could throw at least 115 mph. I hold everyone against the Juan Berenger standard, 103 MPH in RBI Baseball.
  16. Remember when Lee actually got base hits That was awesome.
  17. Anyone remember when Lee had pretty good speed?
  18. I honestly think Lee is on the down-side of his career. He will be 33 in September and it isn't just his offense that has taken a hit this year. He is still an above average defensive player, but he is making a lot more errors than he has in the past.
  19. Rothschild just called down there, but I haven't seen anyone up yet.
  20. I just looked at the clock... 11:05 and still in the 5th inning? Thank you Jason Marquis for my unproductive day at work tomorrow.
  21. Please just put Gonzalez on before he hits the next pitch 600 feet.
