  1. I dont think it has quite hit me yet, but this really sucks... Jed said it last week, but there were absolutely 3 sports heroes of my childhood : Jordan, Payton, and Sandberg. And now 2 of the 3 are gone way too young.
  2. Just gonna let them keep teeing off to save Flexen an inning?
  3. PCA as a cleanup hitting slugger is/was fun, but he should probably be hitting 6th with Busch cleanup and a righty in between them. Of course that means Happ would need to show signs of life to go back to leadoff.
  4. Clearly he had no intention of facing Seiya with PCA on deck.
  5. 40 pitch first inning is EXACTLY what was needed. The 3 runs are just an added bonus. They should be into the bullpen by the 4th inning, if not sooner.
  6. I'm guessing a lot of legwork. "I'll pass you off to my assistant now to finalize the details."
  7. I'm probably reading more into this than what is actually there... but is it possible the Cubs announced this now to give Jed a bit more leverage going into the next 3 days of trade negotiations?
  8. How anyone is still a fan of this team, I have no idea. There is no hope at all. Every other Chicago team at least seems to have a semblance of a plan, some moreso than others, but even the White Sox you could see (if you squint hard enough) maybe eventually developing a competitive team through their farm system. The Bulls are just completely lost, with their ceiling constantly stuck at borderline playoff team and their floor... well, pretty much the same. They can continue to hope to strike lottery gold, despite not giving themselves a realistic chance to do so. But that is not a plan. And they don't deserve to be bailed out by a lottery miracle. Let them continue to do the same thing year after year. Maybe, just maybe, people will eventually stop going to the games. Until then, there is no reason to think anything is ever going to change.
  9. Probably not the best timing going into the Brewers series, but I think Seiya needs another day or two off to reset.
  10. If the Nationals asked for Caissie and Horton as the key pieces in a deal for Gore, would that be worth it? Horton has looked really good, but his contributions to the team down the stretch may be limited.
  11. I assume that is an average launch angle though? So how do we know if it is possibly being driven by the averaging of fly balls and ground balls with fewer line drives? Just looking for answers here, because concluding everything is fine and he is just unlucky after such an extended period of poor results doesn't sit well.
  12. Is the launch angle difference not significant? Or could it explain some of the BABIP decrease?
  13. They are 1 game back of the division lead with less than a week to go in July, and still in great position for a Wild Card spot if they don't win the division. Of course they are serious contenders. You can say maybe they aren't the favorite to win the division anymore, but that doesn't make them a non-contender.
  14. I may have misinterpreted an inside joke, but on the latest Compound podcast they were laughing about the scenario where the All-Star team ran out of catchers and Vidal Brujan got the call to fill in. So even his teammates know he is terrible and can't help but laugh about it.
  15. Does it really matter? Nobody's trading for Happ right now, with or without the no trade clause.
  16. He's been pretty consistent this year. Consistently bad, but consistent.
  17. I don't know. The problem I have with it is Caissie is very possibly already better than the guy we have in LF today. I'm not suggesting the Cubs should replace Happ right now, but it has to at least be a consideration for next season. Happ and Suzuki will be in the last years of their deals next year and Tucker probably won't be here, so there are going to be holes in the corner outfield spots. I think trading the team's best Outfield prospect who is ready to plug into one of those holes for a mid-rotation starting pitcher would be a mistake. I am much more open to trading some combination of Alcantara/Ballasteros/Rojas/Triantos... Basically anything but Caissie or Wiggins UNLESS it means getting a real top tier pitcher back.
  18. It should have been. But then what would the Cubs have told the local TV host that nobody has ever heard of?
  19. Anything from Counsell after the game on the status of PCA going forward?
  20. I would argue they have held together remarkably well considering they lost their best starter for the season, had other significant injuries to the rotation, and their designated closer was bad. But they need help, and soon.
