Down by 2 with 2 innings to go, can we please stop assuming games are lost when they are still well within reach? Chances are the Cubs will lose, but we have seen them come back several times this year.
Andrew Vaughn coming off the scrap heap and suddenly being a useful player for them would be an unfortunate development. With their pitching, they are scary, and might be a better team than the Cubs pre trade deadline.
Happ to 2B, Nico to 3B, Caissie to LF?
Ok, probably not a great idea to weaken three defensive positions, but it's too bad there isn't a spot for Caissie.
I cannot confirm or refute this analysis. All I know is Happ seems to have a lot of terrible at bats. To be fair though, the same could be said for PCA, so "terrible at bats" probably are not a good metric.
Is it though? I would file it more under the category of "mildly surprising." But the Cubs have some obvious holes and there are too many pretty good teams in the NL Central for the Cubs to run away with it.
You can't convince me that Brujan is ever a better option than anyone he is pinch hitting for. He is awful, and not a major league player. The Cubs bench is embarrassing.
They didn't need to keep as much cash free as they did for that to be the case. Even if they shop at the top of the market, pro-rated salaries aren't even going to come close to what they have available under the luxury tax.
It's pretty incredible the Cubs traded 2 3B's in one deal who are both significantly better than all of their 4+ internal options.
Obviously that doesn't tell the whole story because they got Tucker, but it is still unusual.
