  1. The difference between Hodge and Pressly is stark.
  2. Seiya needs to do better than that against a lefty.
  3. Sucks that Happ couldn't put the ball in play there, but I'm still on with this.
  4. Is it just me or does Dansby get caught guessing quite often?
  5. I assume just getting a few innings off while the game is out of hand.
  6. That seems silly either way. I don't see any reason for Horton to continue to waste bullets in Iowa when there is an open rotation spot waiting ready for him.
  7. Not all "ace" starting pitchers are created equal. Shota is a good pitcher, and probably the best one in the Cubs rotation, but the difference between him and a replacement level pitcher is much less than, say, Yamamoto and a replacement level pitcher.
  8. Yeah, I mean, the difference over 1-2 months of Shota in the rotation versus replacement level pitcher (Flexen?) is probably about 1 win. That doesn't move the needle much in terms of playoff odds. And if instead you're penciling in Horton, it hopefully gets a lot closer to being a wash overall.
  9. Can't sign Tucker because they have to save for PCA (who they also won't sign).
  10. I have seen Chris Flexen throw two pitches and already don't like him.
  11. The game is on Apple TV+ tonight. I searched around for free trials and some of the previous deals (like the Best Buy 3 month trial) appear to be dead. The best I found was a 7 day trial through Prime Video, which will be good enough for access to tonight's game.
  12. It's baseball. Good teams lose to bad teams, often in frustrating ways. Oh well, on to the next one.
  13. The fact that it was even close at home was incredible. I didn't think he had a chance to get the runner.
  14. Speaking of RB's, whatever happened to the guy from Hard Knocks who tore his ACL and then went home to become a doctor or something? Is he still part of the organization and will he be in camp again this year?
  15. That really is incredible, especially considering all those teams are at/over .500 despite having faced the Cubs who are playing at a well-above .500 pace. Also, I just learned the Athletics are 14-14, which definitely surprised me.
  16. That's fine, but then let him get his mechanics sorted out in Iowa before running it back for the Cubs again. And at the same time, buy an extra year of control while he's figuring things out.
  17. There are a lot of instances where I would agree with that approach. But seeing what I saw of Shaw, I think he needs bigger adjustments than just "let him figure things out against Major League pitchers".
  18. At least he didn't sign it. Now they still have the money to make an unserious offer to Tucker.
  19. This team has to go get a third baseman, somehow. Expecting Shaw to come back up soon and suddenly have figured everything out is completely unrealistic. There are simply no good options on the roster.
  20. Is anyone else up? Because Merryweather doesn't have it.
