  1. That sucks. I was hoping for west coast baseball tonight.
  2. What exactly are the "problems clearing the field"?
  3. I like the idea of trading Lilly, especially considering we already have a cheap replacement in Gorzellany.
  4. I may try to dump 1 of my 2 remaining games at Wrigley, but unfortunately I still have a potentially miserable trip to St. Louis planned in August. Luckily I only bought tickets to 2 of the 3 games in advance, so at least I can get away from the Cubs for the middle game and find something else to do. Why would you even go to St. Louis in the first place, even to see the Cubs? Two years ago was Cincinnati. Last year was Pittsburgh. The way the schedule worked out this year, St. Louis was next up. It would have been fun if the Cubs were able to stay in contention, but I should have known better!

  6. With Thursday being an off day, can Lou survive a series sweep against the Pirates tomorrow? I'm afraid the answer is yes, but how many other managers could last through a 1-8 start against the Pirates? The team obviously isn't hitting, but his mismanagement (or lack of management) of the bullpen may have cost the Cubs another game tonight.
  7. Can we blow the team up yet? Yeah yeah, I know, it can't happen... but I'd much rather watch a team of rookies like Colvin, Castro, Cashner, etc. lose games than this ragtag bunch of bums.
  8. I saw it, but wasn't sure if it was a shrug or a shiver. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt that it was a shiver.
  9. Yeah I know, we should have spread those runs out a little bit. Those 2 runs could have got us 2 wins against a lesser team! I've been for firing Jim Hendry since like 2 years ago. Maybe we could hire someone who understands how to use $140 million to make an above .500 type team. According to Bruce Levine on Waddle & Silvey this morning, he thinks Hendry has done a good job and isn't going anywhere. He said that a lot of the fault lies with Sam Zell and the Tribune Company pushing him to spend money to drive the value of the team up. Yep, he really said that...
  10. Good point. From now on, I'm going to encourage actual discussion. Would you like to start ? The Jelly bean is neither made of jelly nor is it a bean. Discuss.

  12. Lou's comments after today's game: I guess he doesn't know.
  13. Ah ha! That explains it. Thank you, and Flames24Rulz also.
  14. But can't teams change lines whenever they want? I don't understand the concept of a "last change".
  15. I'm an admitted bandwagon fan who watched a little bit of hockey in the 90's Roenick/Chelios era, but didn't start watching semi-regularly until last season. As I'm starting to pick up some of the strategies and intricacies, I have a few questions that I'm hoping someone can answer. 1) What does it mean to have the "last change"? The announcers make it sound like it gives the home team an advantage to pick their matchups, but if the other team doesn't like the matchup can't they just make a line change at any time to adjust? 2) How are +/- stats calculated? I understand that they are the differential in scoring while the player is on the ice, but can't that be deceiving if someone is involved in a lot of power players or penalty killing. For example, wouldn't a player on a penalty-killing line be at a disadvantage because his line is more likely to be scored on? 3) If postseason hockey can survive just fine without fighting, why is it necessary in the regular season? I really don't understand the two seperate sets of rules. Either allow fighting or don't, but it doesn't make sense to change the rules once the playoffs start.
  16. I think the combination of a reasonably-sized jumbotron across the street for replays/stats and in-stadium cellphone/wifi access is the way to go. There is no need to get rid of the old scoreboard.
  17. If the Cubs are serious about making any attempt to compete this year, Aramis needs to be DL'd now. One could make the argument that he should have been put on the DL two weeks ago, but there is nothing that can be done about that at this point. A .162 average and .496 OPS are historically inept numbers, and we're not talking about a small sample size anymore (167 at bats). It is time to put him on the DL with the thumb injury, give him a week or so to heal up, then let him try to figure things out in a rehab assignment. Chad Tracy gives the Cubs the best chance to win right now (assuming that Fontenot plays 2B over Theriot). Part of the blame lies with Lou continuing to pencil Aramis into the cleanup spot and, along with a relapsed Derrek Lee, forming the weakest 3-4 combo in baseball, but Lee has at least shown some flashes. Aramis hasn't been productive all year and I'm tired of watching him fail.
  18. The Cubs always seem to find a way to minimize their players' value before trading them for nothing... See Gorzellany, a cheap and potentially valuable commodity, who will most likely end up getting dealt for very little in return.
  19. This is going to make it all the more enraging when Russell gets sent to AAA in order to make room for Cashner, while Grabow continues to pitch in the 7th and 8th innings.
  20. Sad that it is the season high, or sad that 41,353 people had to watch the Cubs lay another egg? What do you think ? Both.
  21. If only the Cubs had a 3B at Iowa who was tearing the cover off the ball...
