That makes a lot more sense. I was a little confused by Happ immediately going to the IL following a negative x-ray, especially with an off day tomorrow. There was no reason to rush an IL decision when they can wait and re-evaluate in a day or two. -
Not just that, but is it really fair to have a guy make his MLB debut with the trade deadline hanging over his head, knowing that he may be headed to another team in 24-48 hours? One way or another, it makes sense to get through the trade deadline and then decide how to proceed from there.

I could be wrong, but that type of foul ball off the top of the foot, while painful, rarely results in a significant injury. Most likely a bruise and out for a couple days. If he was actually out for awhile, that would be an interesting conundrum.

Yes, it is a problem. There isn't a single legitimate spot starter on the bench. If only there was money under the luxury tax that could have been used to solve that problem.

Yep, me too. I can't say that Sandberg was always my favorite player of the group, but he was always ONE OF my favorites. And looking back over time, he was the guy who really defined that era and my childhood as a baseball fan.

I'm wracking my brain and I can't really think of an individual memorable Sandberg moment from his playing days. I was too young to remember 84, although I have seen replays of the Sandberg game countless times over the years. He was just always there, a consistent presence in the Cubs lineup and on defense. Last year, a few weeks after the statue unveiling, I saw him walking through Gallagher Way with his blue jacket on. He stopped to talk briefly with a few fans and take a few pictures. I considered "should I or shouldn't I" but ultimately decided to leave him alone and let him carry on wherever he was going. He looked great and I expected him to be around for years to come. In hindsight, I should have talked to him. A photo, a handshake, or just a simple thank you. It won't be the same without Ryno around Wrigley.
