  1. You do realize that scouts watch the games right? They don't simply discount a guy because they see a BS in the box score.
  2. That is only a strike if your name is Junior Lake.
  3. He has been awful for years. And how much pitching do the Sox really have after they trade Peavy?
  4. Apparently Cashman didn't want to make the Soriano trade, but was pressured into it by ownership. If I were him I would be planning my exit from New York and looking for another job with less owner interference. http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/yankees/sori_no_mzJu6LVyJb31fpQ5RVHqOM
  5. Wow. At that rate, the Cubs could realistically burn through the entire waiting list within the next couple years if the team doesn't improve significantly.
  6. I understand that thinking, but I don't think additional dollars spent are good value unless there is someone that the Cubs really want. They are paying a 100% tax at this point, so they are essentially paying double market value for anyone they sign from here on out.
  7. If someone would have told me a few years ago that I would be a little sad when Soriano left the Cubs, I would have thought that person was crazy. There was a time when I wanted nothing more than for Soriano to be off the Cubs' roster, but he has completely changed my opinion of him over the past few seasons. He is certainly a flawed player, but I appreciate the fact that he wants to be in the lineup every single day and the work that he has seemingly put in to address the flaws in his game (like his defense). A big part of me would have liked to see him finish his contract with the Cubs, but if the Cubs get a little salary relief and a decent prospect out of this deal then I can't argue with that result. It's too bad he had to go to the Yankees though instead of a real contender.
  8. Cubs not picking up any of Garza's salary. All on the Rangers. Well, that should make the international overage easier for Ricketts to stomach.
  9. I don't know whether he will amount to anything long term, but Junior Lake sure is fun to watch right now.
  10. I'll take the pool for 100 Alex. Really depends on who the pool is. Ramirez seems like the ceiling on the arms we could likely get, so we're looking at several guys below that. There's some raw upside guys in the system (as there is in all systems), but if Ramirez is sort of a ceiling on the talent of the arms we can get, then there's a case to be made for gambling on Ramirez's upside because we don't need filler/solid, as we have that. Yeah, that is probably true, but I just don't like what I've heard about possible shoulder issues (and presumably that is why the deal wasn't made for Ramirez outright). I would rather gamble with some healthier, although rawer, young arms.
  11. Obviously a deal isn't complete until the medical records have been reviewed. Could it simply be that the Cubs know what they are looking for and are extra cautious about trading a valuable asset for damaged goods? They clearly didn't miss out on anything by "failing to complete" the deal for Dan Haren in the offseason. The blame is not with Epstein and Hoyer for not completing the deals, but instead with whoever is leaking/reporting them before they are done.
  12. MLB already has revenue sharing in place in addition to the competitive balance picks.
  13. Fun fact: The teams receiving competitive balance picks have a combined .502 winning percentage. The remaining teams in MLB who will not receive competitive balance picks have a .499 winning percentage.
  14. Good, we need to do what we can to keep Tampa and St. Louis competitive..... It seems perfectly fair to penalize 1 team in a division by giving every other team the opportunity for an extra draft pick. That's competitive balance for you.
  15. Great way to open SportsCenter after the game, with a completely inaccurate calculation of the odds of catching 4 foul balls in the same game. 1 in a trillion!
  16. What the hell is ESPN doing with the cameras?
  17. With the All-Star break coming, I assume that almost everyone is available. This could get fun.
  18. Apparently he is slow if he is still at Second base.
