  1. What was the umpire looking at? He was standing 3 feet away and staring right at the play.
  2. You've gotta be kidding me.
  3. According to Mark Gonzales, Renteria is getting a 2nd interview this week. Have any other candidates been confirmed for round 2?
  4. I refuse to accept that Dave Martinez didn't blow everyone away. Just hire him already.
  5. Any news on the booth for next year? I thought Moreland's contract was up, but haven't heard a thing about it.
  6. He won't. He'll just take over for Adam Wainwright like Adam Wainwright took over for Chris Carpenter. Just like Matt Adams and Allen Craig took over for Albert Pujols like Albert Pujols took over for Mark McGwire. Then he will become a free agent, the Cardinals will be smart enough not to pay him big money, but someone else will and then he will suck. Rinse and repeat.
  7. Of course Wacha beats Kershaw. Why wouldn't he?
  8. Let the 2nd round of interviews begin. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-spt-1018-cubs-chicago-20131018,0,7637766.story
  9. I cannot stop staring at that damn signature! I don't even want to know how many times I've watched it loop.
  10. I got mine about 30 minutes ago.
  11. Rose is sitting out tonight's game with left knee soreness.
  12. Like this: Plz go in our favor Is it true though that the Cubs can't spend non-baseball revenue on the team because of tax implications due to the sale and Sam Zell's ownership stake? I remember hearing somewhere that the Cubs can't dedicate any outside funds to payroll until the tax agreement with Zell has run its course.
  13. Bruce Levine and Mark Gonzales were on with Kaplan and both indicated that they thought Rick Renteria would be the guy, but I have a hard time trusting their opinions because neither one of them had anything insightful to say. It truly sounds like Levine just makes things up as he goes. He made a comment along the lines of "many of the Cubs major league players should still be in AAA, so they need someone who can teach them at the big league level." I would like him to explain exactly who on the Cubs should still be in AAA. While Castro and Rizzo may have had their struggles, I can't imagine that any organization in baseball would still have them in AAA at this point. I have no idea why he seems to think the Cubs are rushing players to the majors, when I think they are actually being pretty conservative. They have no incentive to rush anyone at this stage.
  14. Oh but its just "technical". Here in baseball, close enough is good enough. It was annoying how the announcers considered a missed call a technicality. No mention of it being a bad call, just that it "technically" wasn't a tag.
  15. Does anyone know why Martinez would have been ruled out?
  16. When is the last time the Bears successfully recovered an onside kick? Gould is now 0-11 in his career and I don't recall the last time the Bears have even be close to recovering one.
  17. I probably would have as well, but I wouldn't be surprised if Trestman used statistical evidence to make that call. Lovie's head just exploded.
  18. Look on the bright side. There are 0 excuses this year. New offense.
  19. Yep, that's always the first thing that pops in my head. Sort-of related, I feel like a good way to test if you're dealing with a Cubs' die-hard (presuming they're old enough to have seen it) is to ask if they know who the three players in that rundown were. Random thing that only lunatics like us remember, I'm sure. best cubs gave i've ever been to. i wonder if the sportscenter video i uploaded years ago is still floating around online... I was at that game too. I think I might even still have the radio call saved somewhere.
  20. That's "former Cubs star Keith Moreland" to you!
  21. I am in favor of that, but they would also need to balance across the other league or eliminate Interleague Play altogether. I would be ok with either option.
  22. By that logic, the World Series might as well be shortened to 1 game. A 3 game series is slightly less random than 1 game or else all series would be equally random regardless of length.
  23. The Division Series don't even start until Thursday and Friday, which means there is plenty of room to fit a 3-game series. There is no reason to let 1-game decide a "playoff" round in a sport that plays a 162 game regular season. 1. It was decided over those 162 games that you're stuck in the do or die situation. If you want a chance at a full series, win your division. 2. In the case of the AL this year, you'd have Tampa traveling from Toronto on Sunday to Arlington on Monday to Cleveland on Tuesday(then presumably) back to Tampa on Thursday, and then to Boston on Fridady. And needing to leave Monday open for tiebreakers/make-up games, you wouldn't be able to start any of the DS games on Thursday. I think you would feel differently if a 94-win Cubs team finished 2nd to the Cardinals and ended up losing the 1 game playoff to an 89-win 2nd Wild Card team. If anything, it was decided over 162 games that the Cubs were better than Team B, so why should one essentially random game decide who moves on? Sure, they could also lose a 3 game series, but that outcome would be a little easier to swallow.
