  1. Look on the bright side. There are 0 excuses this year. New offense.
  2. Yep, that's always the first thing that pops in my head. Sort-of related, I feel like a good way to test if you're dealing with a Cubs' die-hard (presuming they're old enough to have seen it) is to ask if they know who the three players in that rundown were. Random thing that only lunatics like us remember, I'm sure. best cubs gave i've ever been to. i wonder if the sportscenter video i uploaded years ago is still floating around online... I was at that game too. I think I might even still have the radio call saved somewhere.
  3. That's "former Cubs star Keith Moreland" to you!
  4. I am in favor of that, but they would also need to balance across the other league or eliminate Interleague Play altogether. I would be ok with either option.
  5. By that logic, the World Series might as well be shortened to 1 game. A 3 game series is slightly less random than 1 game or else all series would be equally random regardless of length.
  6. The Division Series don't even start until Thursday and Friday, which means there is plenty of room to fit a 3-game series. There is no reason to let 1-game decide a "playoff" round in a sport that plays a 162 game regular season. 1. It was decided over those 162 games that you're stuck in the do or die situation. If you want a chance at a full series, win your division. 2. In the case of the AL this year, you'd have Tampa traveling from Toronto on Sunday to Arlington on Monday to Cleveland on Tuesday(then presumably) back to Tampa on Thursday, and then to Boston on Fridady. And needing to leave Monday open for tiebreakers/make-up games, you wouldn't be able to start any of the DS games on Thursday. I think you would feel differently if a 94-win Cubs team finished 2nd to the Cardinals and ended up losing the 1 game playoff to an 89-win 2nd Wild Card team. If anything, it was decided over 162 games that the Cubs were better than Team B, so why should one essentially random game decide who moves on? Sure, they could also lose a 3 game series, but that outcome would be a little easier to swallow.

  8. How would you have preferred the two way tie for the final WC spot to be resolved? Exactly how it was, but the Wild Card series should be a minimum 3-game series. Winning 1 game to qualify to play another 1 game is just dumb. 1-game tiebreakers are just fine, but 1-game playoff series aren't.
  9. It sure seems silly that a 1-game tiebreaker leads to a 1-game playoff elimination.
  10. I'm still intrigued with Dave Martinez, although his hiring would beg the question of why he wasn't even interviewed 2 years ago.
  11. You've got it right, they need to ask the Yankees for permission to talk to him about the job before November 1. Considering that Theo all but guaranteed that the new manager would be in place before then, you'll likely see news about the Cubs asking the Yankees for permission to chat with him soon. But if the Yankees have any interest in keeping Girardi, wouldn't they deny that request so that they maintain exclusive negotiating rights? Or would it be a case where Girardi makes it clear that he won't sign until he has had a chance to field other offers, thereby forcing the Yankees hand to grant permission to other clubs?
  12. What are the logistics for the Cubs talking to Girardi, if that is what they want to do? I thought I read that his current contract runs through the end of October, so I assume the Yankees still have the first chance to negotiate with him and would have to grant permission for anyone else to speak with him.
  13. You never know what could happen, so you might as well force the Lions to take as many snaps as possible. It may be a 1 in 1000 chance that something goes wrong, but it could still happen.
  14. Does Gould not practice that or what? Horrible.
  15. Huh? "There was no clear recovery, fumble."
  16. Have the Bears ever recovered an onside kick since Gould has been the kicker?
  17. Regardless of what Billick continues to say, this game is meaningless as a tiebreaker since Detroit would still have to win in Chicago for that to be true.
  18. I probably would have guessed more than 100 losses So if we tie the Twins, who gets the 4th pick? Cubs.
  19. That was a pretty obvious fumble waiting to happen... obvious to everyone except Jay himself.
  20. 8 foot tall receivers.
  21. Get the ball down Cutler!
  22. I think I would rather watch the Cubs game.
