  1. I don't know (or care) who goes down, but if all the relievers are going to walk everyone anyway, at least get Maples up here.
  2. The Cubs are on a mission to singlehandedly kill Manfred's pace of play improvement attempts.
  3. Well, good for Bote I guess. He went from essentially a nobody with no MLB future to set for life within the span of a year.
  4. The core is in place... Hendricks, Bote, and Heyward
  5. Combine the three and and they might be good for half as many home runs as Bryce Harper.
  6. Maybe the lineups were created a week in advance, you know, to make sure everyone can prepare adequately.
  7. I'm slightly annoyed that Schwarber isn't starting, but I don't think this is necessarily a sign that he won't get significant time against LHP. If it wasn't Opening Day, I assume Heyward would be the one sitting.
  8. I have the same fear. Hi is my favourite pitcher on the team by far, but his long term projection scares me since he has so little room for regression in his velocity. With that said, I absolutely see the need to lock him up for awhile. Lester and Hamels are both toward the end and Quintana and Darvish are both question marks, so this helps stabilize a portion of the rotation for the foreseeable future. Even if Hendricks regresses somewhat, the numbers in this deal don't look bad for a middle of the rotation starter. I'm just glad the Cubs finally did "something."
  9. Don't worry. Last year's power outage being a fluke for Bryant is just one of the dozen things the Cubs are counting on going right.
  10. That's a start. Now trade him for a bag of balls.
  11. Surely not locking anyone up with an extension will never backfire.
  12. I wonder if we will see less Tom walking around Wrigley greeting fans this year. It would give me great joy to see him roundly booed when shown on the big screen, but 90% of fans at Wrigley will be oblivious to what has (or hasn't) happened this offseason.
  13. In other words, he will pick who he wants to be traded to once he figures out how much he hates Philly.
  14. Single game tickets are on sale now!
  15. Another Jr. Keep them coming!
  16. I know I'm in the minority, but I still want no part of the DH. It seems strange to me though that they would even be considering such a change less than 2 months from opening day. If and when MLB decides to adopt the DH in the NL, wouldn't it make sense to announce it early in the off-season (or sooner) to give teams a better opportunity to build their rosters? Ultimately, I expect it will be a concession by the owners in the next CBA. There is no pressing reason to do it this year.
  17. Come on Joe. This is Bryce horsefeathering Harper we're talking about, not Billy Hamilton.
  18. MLB off-season is the worst. Free agency in the other major sports is largely resolved within a few weeks, but in baseball we have to put up with months of posturing and non-activity. There is no more hot stove. There is only a lukewarm tub of bathwater, while team owners count their growing piles of money and prepare to pass any cost increases on to the fans. I reserve the right to declare MLB off season great again if Harper signs with the Cubs, but that isn't happening.
