  1. Brett from BN certainly thinks so Olney mentioned on his podcast today that there is speculation within baseball that Roberts and Maddon could be gone if they get bounced early. Regardless of tonight's outcome, I still find it hard to believe the Cubs would fire a guy 2 years removed from a World Series title and in the middle of a 4 year playoff run. The only way it happens is if the rift between him and the front offense is irreconcilable.
  2. he's going to and it won't be long. i love the first inning ninnies already haha he wasn't really fooling anybody and the hits and runs will come. though, a quick (or relatively quick) shut down inning from jon would help a lot for morale he struck two guys out But they only had a combined 3 shoulders.
  3. ESPN knows, if there is anyone who knows hitting, it's Chili Davis. More wind insight please.
  4. a couple of them were maybe close enough to go either way. jon nibbles, it's what he does This is true, but is he nibbling more now out of necessity as his stuff begins to deteriorate with age? It seems like it, but could be recency bias.
  5. He didn't throw a single strike that wasn't called, and got some outside strikes on top of it. Can't blame the ump for that run.
  6. Does anyone have Hendricks' ERA by inning? I know he has been much better lately, but I recall him having some first inning struggles earlier in the season. He would make me nervous as a 1-out or 1-inning guy, so hopefully he is only on the roster for emergency/extra innings purposes.
  7. Missing fastballs happens, but Willson's double play was completely predictable and preventable. Javy’s was a tough break. The garbage of this season falls on Willson and Schwarber massively shortening this lineup. And Bryant getting hurt. And Russell being a POS. It is disappointing that Schwarber hasn't become the hitter it looked like he would be, but his numbers were pretty typical Schwarber numbers. Willson and Russell's regressions definitely hurt, but I think Bryant's injury has been the single biggest factor. I just hope the problem can be fixed in the offseason, because Bryant not returning to near-MVP form would be a huge problem going forward.
  8. Willson’s awful at bat and Baez missing the fastball was the game Missing fastballs happens, but Willson's double play was completely predictable and preventable.
  9. Quintana had a good game, Chavez was outstanding, and the rest of the bullpen didn't completely horsefeathers the bed... Once again, the pathetic offense was what cost the Cubs the game. Taking Hader out of the picture, there is no excuse to only come up with 2 hits against the rest of those pitchers.
  10. At least Hader won't be able to pitch tomorrow.
  11. Just get a guy on somehow and then anything can happen. Come on Murphy - take a dive into a 97 mph fastball.
