  1. I don't get pulling Strasburg there. It's his last game of the year and pitch count was still reasonable. Why not let him finish and keep the back end bullpen guys fresh for possible multiple innings tomorrow?
  2. oh no not that So we are not in favor of trading Bryant this offseason? Considering that the Cubs are extremely unlikely to re-sign him in 2 years, I would much rather get something for him now before he gets closer to Free Agency. He is set to make close to $20M in arbitration, so there's that too. Get some assets in return and spend the $20M elsewhere.
  3. Jesus Christ, months?!??! That’s ridiculous for both parties Not for Bryant. It gives him a little more leverage on a possible mutual agreement or contract extension (unlikely) if the grievance decision is still looming. A delay really only hurts the Cubs and their flexibility, as trading him is basically off the table until the decision is made.
  4. If the Nats don't tear that contract up after this season and give him more money, they are jerks. Uh huh, cuz that's definitely happened before. It has. See Alex Cora - https://www.overthemonster.com/2018/11/14/18095840/alex-cora-contract-red-sox

  6. This is fun. Go Nats!
  7. The only thing I can think of that would lead to Bryant having a case is that the Cubs knew about Olt's broken hand and delayed the official diagnosis to buy time. I have to believe they are smarter than that, as medical records would clearly show when the exact injury was diagnosed. Otherwise, it seems pretty cut and dry. The Cubs planned to keep Bryant in the minors for an undetermined amount of time. Olt got hurt. The extent of his injury wasn't immediately known. The timing of the diagnosis just so happened to coincide with Bryant's service time cutoff. Whether it was a day later or a month later is irrelevant. They had to make a move, and that move was to promote Bryant.
  8. According to Kaplan, Kris Bryant's service time grievance is going to be heard this week. I can't imagine Bryant winning, since it would seem to open the door for grievances all over MLB. Also, why did they wait 4 years to resolve this?
  9. Is Jim Riggleman available again?
  10. Who was the home plate umpire in Game 1? Giving credit where it is due, he was on it tonight. He had one of the best and most consistent strike zones I have seen in awhile.
  11. I don't even own a PS4 and I still want to buy that.
  12. It only took me a little over a year after being publicly shamed, but the broken avatar is no more!
  13. I suppose Ross could have already quietly had a second interview, or the Cubs know him well enough that it wasn't necessary. I'm thinking the job might be Espada's to lose though.
  14. I'm curious whether the Nationals will tear up Dave Martinez' contract and give him a new deal, or are the Nats gonna Nat and continue to pay him less than $1M the year after going to the World Series.
  15. It is fun watching Scherzer. He is having the time of his life out there.
  16. Me too. Even though he only played with the Cubs for a few years, he was one of my favorite players as a kid. I thought, as most did, that he was toast earlier this season. I'm really glad the Nationals stuck with him and turned things around. It also provides a future counter-argument to the "fire the manager to give the team a spark" school of thought.
  17. Rendon's at bat in the 10th was so great. The guy just doesn't chase and punishes mistakes. There aren't many hitters like him, and certainly none on the Cubs.
  18. Fangraphs has him worth over $26 million this year. Honestly, the main outlier for him has been the dongs. The concerning part is that that issue first showed up in 2017, and isn't considered that this league-wide power surge didn't happen until last season? This where I get so damn confused. I watched Q all season, and never ever would I have thought, 'Yeah, this guy was worth a one-year, $26 million dollar deal this year.' I don't see how that is possible. I would double check my algorithm on that one.
  19. There isn't another pitcher out there for $10.5 million that can give innings and actually has some upside?
  20. Quintana shouldn't be on this team next year, but he will be, because letting him walk makes the trade look even worse.
  21. I agree with this. Maddon has some fault, but this mess isn't his doing. Anything less than Theo taking primary responsibility will be unacceptable. The only thing I want to hear him address in his end of season press conference is the mistakes he has made and what he plans to do to fix them. Maddon is almost certainly gone, but it is largely due to the mistakes that have been made above him. That partially includes ownership, but mostly lies square on the shoulders of Theo. I don't want to hear him place blame on anyone else. The players have proven they are who they are, and it is Theo who bought into them being better than that. I hope Tom Ricketts is furious, and he has every right to be. But does he really care, or is he counting his money and waiting for the new network to launch (which will very likely not even be carried by some of the major content distributors, Dish Network for example)?
  22. By "worthy replacement", do you mean current pop music hits blaring over the loudspeakers? Organ music is almost non-existent now at Wrigley anyway, which is unfortunate.
  23. It's almost like run differential is a nearly meaningless stat.
  24. So you're telling me there's a chance!
  25. He needs to stop doing that long stride lunge to first base. It makes me cringe every time, especially with his knee problems. Although maybe it will be another team's concern the next time he takes the field.
