  1. ...so this is twitter's fault? Of course not. But the mob mentality of social media is represented on Twitter, and those cries for immediate action don't always fall on deaf ears. It is fine to issue a statement that an investigation is taking place and racist behavior won't be tolerated, but it isn't fine to flag something as "abhorrent racial animus" when you don't have all the facts.
  2. How about an apology from Tony Clark too? This is what happens when people jump to conclusions to appease the Twitter mob.
  3. If Happ were on the open market, would you pay him $5M? If not, why even offer him arbitration? He has had plenty of time to figure things out, and he is terrible. Rafael Ortega is playing over his head for sure, but I would much rather let him fill the spot for the next year, whether that be as a 4th outfielder or as a placeholder starter.
  4. I might be missing the thread where this is already being discussed, but Rizzo tested positive for Covid and is on the IL.
  5. Who knows? The Cubs broadcast situation is as much of a mess as the team itself.
  6. I think the odds are very, very good. I imagine it'll be one of the concessions to the players in the CBA. I still prefer no DH, but I'm not going to die on that hill. It is a logical concession to the players and I can live with that, as long as the stupid extra innings rule and 7 inning doubleheaders aren't also offered up as concessions.
  7. Mark Grace wore #17 for 13 years and had well over 2,000 hits with the Cubs. Obviously Kris Bryant had a much higher peak, but there is something to be said for the consistency and length of contributions from Grace. I think they lay equal claim to the number in Cubs history.
  8. The guy who wasn't even good enough for a roster spot a week ago.
  9. It's going to be hard to catch some of those teams, but 5th or 6th place seems like a reasonable target.
  10. I feel the same way. Bryant and Baez are likely not great long term investments, but Rizzo isn't going to break the bank. Whatever it takes to sign him isn't going to significantly impact the rebuild one way or another. If he signs for 3 or 4 years, he is still going to provide decent production and maybe the Cubs will even be good again toward the end of his deal. Maybe this is all wishful thinking, but he certainly seems like the most likely of the three to come back.
  11. Scab announcer to go along with scab players. Fitting.
  12. Ayo to the Bulls! Completely unexpected and I really needed that today.
  13. This better be a damn good return to send him to the Yankees.
  14. In less than a week, the Cubs have gone from a very solid bullpen to possibly the league's worst. I guess that is to be expected when trading their 3 best relievers (assuming Kimbrel gets dealt) and sending the 4th best down to get stretched out.
  15. Has Megill ever looked good?
  16. Bailey Horn - High-A LHP who will be 24 going into next season. https://www.milb.com/player/bailey-horn-690544 He was a 5th round pick in 2020 and received the 3rd-highest signing bonus from that White Sox draft class.
  17. I like what I have seen from Rafael Ortega. What are the chances that he can actually be a useful player beyond this season? Not as an everyday player, but I like him much better off the bench than Happ or Heyward.
  18. I can't say that I've ever heard someone 5'11" 160 described as "squat."
  19. Chafin told David Ross on his way off the field, "One bad outing and I get traded." Gotta love that guy.
  20. Wow, that sounds like best case scenario for Chafin. Palencia is intriguing.
  21. Question about that last play... It took Javy a looong time to touch first base. If the second runner had crossed home plate, which I couldn't tell if he did, would the final score have been 7-5? I don't think I've ever seen that happen in a walk off scenario. (Yes, I bet the -1.5)
  22. Too many pitches, too much risk. But at least he struck out the side and got the ERA down to 0.49. Now shut him down.
  23. Heyward is atrocious. Happ makes less than 20% of JHey and is a little less productive. That’s not saying much. Happ is also 26 and was really good last year. I'd let him get as many AB's as possible down the stretch to see if he can figure it out. I get it, but I have also never been convinced of Happ being anything more than a fourth outfielder.
