  1. I think the Cards are .5 games out of the best record in baseball (although my math is admittedly shaky). From what I've seen, their pitching has not been that bad lately, but their offense to me seemed always feast or famine. Hermanson blew a save, correct? That started the whole extra innings debacle. Probably not the best place to ask because of the rivalry and also because the Cubs have beaten us thus far (i.e. haven't seen our best baseball so far), but what do you think is the Cards biggest weakness in the post season?
  2. Dude Carps year is great. Hes just in the wrong league this year to win the Cy Young. I think herein lies the problem. Carp this year and Pujols the last two/three years are finishing second. Any other year or any other league, less Bonds, Lee, and Clemens, either of them could take home the award. I'm not saying it's not legitimate, I just think Cards fans are sick of their guys finishing second. Edit - and their team :(
  3. This is really beating a dead horse here. The decision's not made today, it's made at the end of the season. The choice will be clear then. And personally, if LaRussa allows Carp to go one more complete game this season, I think he needs to have his head examined. He is an injury prone pitcher already at 180 innings (on pace for 245), more than any other year except 2001 (215 IP and look where that got him the next year). If necessary, save it for the post season. Carp is the one pitcher we need to have any hope of going far in the playoffs. I'd like to see him there.
  4. Release Wellemeyer. No loss @ all. Majorly disagree. raisin, what do you see in Welle? He has the pitches to be a bottom of the order starter - he posted an ERA of 3 at AAA in 11 starts this year. He could also be a good set-up man. The Cubs need to give him a proper role and not dust him off once every week in blow outs. Sounds like Haren last year when we called him up the same day to start against the Cubs. In other news, Schilling blows another save. Red Sox were ahead 6-4 and Schilling gives up three runs.
  5. Carp has one I can think of against Zambrano where he went 9 and gave up 1 ER and got a no decision. Keeping an ERA as low as Clemens' is doubtful, especially with his back. I don't think Carp will have to do anything short of what he's been doing to win it. And as I said, if the season ended today, I'd give it to Clemens. Luckily, I think the choice will be a little more clear cut at the end of the season, one way or another.
  6. That's not a very nice thing to say about Truffle. :D No doubt about it, Truffle's in decline. Although you could see it coming a mile away with his posting peripherals.
  7. That's incident I was referring to; I mean what exactly was he arguing about?
  8. My bad, wolf. Reports say Steve and I could've sworn it was Adam. My mistake.
  9. Objectively, if the season ended today, Clemens would win the CY and Lee would win MVP. If Clemens does have a balky back, it could swing the momentum in Carp's favor. To add to Vance's criteria for consideration, Carp has a major league leading six complete games and 16 more IP that Clemens. One COULD argue that if Clemens had the ability to go more innings in his efforts, he could have notched a few more wins for himself. And like it or not, Cy Young voters have given substantial weight to wins in the past.
  10. Yeah plus I'd be a lot more comfortable with The Rajah, Oswalt, and Pettite as far from the playoffs as possible. Call me paranoid, but that's not a three man rotation I'd relish facing in a 5 or 7 game series. Nah, those guys are scrubs. I don't relish playing Houston any more than any other playoff bound team, but I'd rather Atlanta and Houston face off in the first round.
  11. Also, wasn't that same game Zambrano was ejected for hitting Edmonds, Barrett was jawing at the Cards. It might not have been that game, but he definitely did it.
  12. I'm fine with our scrub replacements so far. If they can limp along another couple of weeks until Sanders and Molina get back, I can't complain.
  13. You could have filled it with Grudzielanek for $1 mil.
  14. Hrabosky has instantly become more tolerable since he's rid himself of the mullet. Dontcha think?
  15. Cards need to show up for the next game. The only reason we've been winning with this AAA lineup is solid pitching and good defense. The most you can expect from this lineup is 4 runs tops. The crappy pitching/defense and bloop hits needs to stop.
  16. Do you guys attribute the wake up to Dusty or solely the players (or our soft pitching)?
  17. He was awesome in the first half of 2004 and all of 2003.. what happened? I wouldn't go that far. He is 13-5 with a 2.4ish ERA in his last six starts (obviously before today). I admit that I selectively used numbers, but it's not like the guy has fallen off the table. Before today he was 13-5 with a 3.79 ERA. I would rather have a guy give up 7 ER in one game than scatter those around middling starts. No, 4.10 is not stellar, but after giving up 7 in this game, it's not horrible either. Wow, 18 decisions in 6 starts is impressive. I might value wins more if you can have 13 of them in a short amount of time.
  18. He was awesome in the first half of 2004 and all of 2003.. what happened? I wouldn't go that far. He is 13-5 with a 2.4ish ERA in his last six starts (obviously before today).
  19. I will never ever claim Pujols should sniff a gold glove this year. Worst error I've seen him make.
  20. Nice K by Maddux. I posted the same thing on the Cards board, UK. I would be angry if I was a Cubs fan and they can get up against the Cards and tank it against the Reds, Mets, D-backs, etc.
  21. Now I'm glad they pulled Mulder. If by chance they are able to come back, I don't want Mulder anywhere close to sniffing a win after that pathetic "start".
  22. Give me a break. With our lineup? Things must be bad in Cubland. I don't like pinch hitting for Mulder here. Why burn the bullpen so early? Our chances our nil anyway.
