  1. What??? Cano was clearly off the bag because he was avoiding the slide into second. I agree that he was off the bag (barely). He's safe by the rulebook, I can't argue that. But it really had no bearing on the play. SS do that all the time when turning the double play. The ump shouldn't be making a statement like that in a playoff game. That's just my opinion. OK, we posted at the same time. I'm especially burned by it because it's the type of play a Yankee would have called in their favor. Heaven forbid, a Yank would get taken down by a hard slide into second.
  2. Honestly, what did you see that I didn't? He was clearly off the bag at 2nd. I don't buy this "well, the throw beat him so we'll give him the benefit of the doubt" stuff.

  4. Did you really think he had the cajones to say that Johnson, a Yankee no less, just sucked tonight? Don't the Yankees pay Reynold's salary, along with the rest of ESPN??? :D LaRussa and Duncan have had their share of pitch tipping accusations, but at least let it come from the coaches mouth first. An announcer's pitch tipping accusation, classic  !
  5. Can you believe Reynolds had the cajones to say the only logical conclusion for Johnson getting lit up is he was tipping his pitches?
  6. I expected him to decline, but such a massive decline surprised me. I expect the Angels to replace him this offseason with Giles. Giles should go to the Cubs or the Cards.
  7. Sturtze's in and Cabrera's pretty hot, very well could happen!
  8. It's a shame Finley is such a waste of roster space (and money).
  9. Hate to say it, CR, but I just don't see the Angels advancing to the WS. They're not strong enough on either side of the ball. When you have RJ on the ropes like that, you've got to deliver in the playoffs.
  10. Yeah, RJ's was getting lit up, but cmon, the Yanks bullpen? We'll see if Small can take it to the 9th.
  11. Would you have booed Johnson as he's taken out of the game?
  12. Molina's 3rd HR of the post season; Johnson's getting hit hard.
  13. I know no one here is rooting for the White Sox, but you have to admit Ramirez and Ortiz are hard to stomach when they hit HRs (or even when they think they should have hit HRs).

  15. I also want an MVP that's going to excel all year long. Who knows where the Cubs would be if Lee had put up the kind of numbers he did the first half of the season or even Pujols type numbers? Post All Star break Lee Pujols .961 OPS 1.068 OPS .581 SLG .629 SLG .287 AVG .320 AVG .380 OBP .439 OBP
  16. Bump again, no one gives this any credence? To me, voting for a player whose team doesn't get to the playoffs for MVP is like voting for a pitcher for the MVP. I would do it, but only if there aren't any other compelling candidates or if they are far and away the best choice. From ESPN's Stark's MVP analysis: "I know that teams like the Cardinals rarely produce MVPs. But they produced one this year -- a fellow named Albert Pujols." Good team's candidates have just as much trouble getting elected as those with a weaker supporting cast for the opposite reason and the reason that's being argued to support Jones' case.

  18. The way the post season has developed, it seems like the aces truly are wild. A lot of aces have been blown up!
  19. Who did the Cubs get for Farnsworth again?
  20. His teams win because (at least while in St. Louis) because they have good players. Had that idiot Hernandez not swung at balls 1, 2 and 3 against a struggling Izzy, Nunez's play wouldn't have come into question. LaRussa makes some great calls and makes some lousy ones. I don't know if you get to see him on a regular basis or not, but he makes many head-scratching decisions. For one, starting Morris over Suppan in game 3. Right now, Suppan is their best pitcher and he may not throw one pitch in the NLDS. On another note, why were people surprised that Sanders got a 3-0 green light? Don't you normally give your 3-5 hitters the 3-0 green light? I could see the surprise if you gave your lead-off or 8th place hitter the green light, but not the 5th hitter. In a different situation, maybe (i.e. 2 outs with RISP), but there was one out, a walk scores a run, and Reggie doesn't have the most stellar plate discipline.
  21. LAA's lineup to me is as much as an enigma as FLA's.
  22. They're reporting hand cramps, taken out as a precautionary measure.
  23. I'd love to see that, but I think it was Dalgreen who pointed out LaRussa is a Dusty clone when it comes to veterans. He did give Haren some key bullpen innings in the playoffs last year, but Haren had considerably more MLB experience. Reyes was pretty much the only K guy out of the pen and Anthony Reyes is the closest shot to replace that.
