  1. Go figure, the egg layer is gone before I can look up.
  2. OMG, he walked Chris Widger to score a run!
  3. Did Astacio have any sort of pedigree before being called up? I'd unconditionally release him or at least DFA him.
  4. And Astacio serves one up after being bailed out by that spectacular double play.
  5. Because he's ugly as sin? Is it safe to say you don't have a man crush on him?
  6. Now's the time they wish they had McCarthy on the roster instead of Marte.
  7. It always gets interesting when both teams run out of pitchers.
  8. Luckily for him, Morgan Ensberg is up. I like Palmeiro up here.
  9. Is that the scouting report on Macias also?
  10. I saw Hermanson at the airport on the day after he was DFA'd by the Cards. He was picking up some BK with his girlfriend on the way out of dodge.
  11. Oswalt once again showing what a punk he is.
  12. Biggio doubled, Berkman knocked him in with a hit to left.
  13. The Cardinals can be tricky. Last offseason everyone thought they would decline, especially in starting pitching, because of very tight money concerns. Then they turned around and traded for Mulder at 6.5 mil, who figures to only get more expensive. I agree. The Cards know how to work the money around and get the players they need. I think the Cards should move Edmonds and get younger, they looked so old and tired against the Astros. This was a Walker/Sanders issue. I don't see how trading Edmonds would improve the Cards. Edmonds was healthy and productive all year. Some people point to a decline because of his average, but I don't agree. Who would the Cards plug in at CF that would be an improvement? Not to mention it would mean turning over our entire outfield.
  14. If it's true he's staying in SD, it may be just as well. Giles could have signed with STL before even considering the Cubs. With Sanders ($4M) and Walker ($6M) both free agents, and Roger Cedeno off the books ($1.5M), STL could have easily paid Giles $10-12M per year. That type of dough and the chance to win year-in/year-out is hard to pass up. Let's see if we get confirmation reports in the next 12 hours about re-signing with SD. That's about the most positive spin to put on it. Thankfully's he not going to St. Louis. The Cards would have had to add about 10M or so to their payroll to snag Giles. Even with that money coming off, it is nearly equal to the amount of money they have to pay inhouse for raises. Plus the have the matty mo decision to make. Also if Im not mistaken they need to get two corner outfielders with whatever money they have. But the Cards are rumored to be adding 10-15 mil in payroll due to moving into Busch. Jocketty confirmed that in a Post Dispatch article yesterday (not the specific amount, but that payroll will increase). If the Cards re-sign Sanders they only need one OF. If they don't, Taguchi and Rodgriguez are expected to platoon in LF.
  15. You know a Cards fan had to chime in on this thread. The Astros are the recipients of a little bit of karma for some of the bad calls in the NLCS. That's all I have to say about karma.
  16. With our infields covered with the exception of SS for the Cubs and 2nd base for the Cards, both teams will be going after the same limited FA outfielder pool. It seems that both teams could re-sign their SS and 2nd base if they so choose. An outfielder(s) is the biggest need on both teams. Looking forward to seeing who each team ends up with.
  17. He's not worth what he'll get. If we could get him cheap then of course, but he's just not worth the long term investment he'll want. If we can get him for 10 per or under I think we should sign him. I think we've got to take a chance with a pitcher like him. If some of our young arms emerge as legit starters over the next two years then we can always trade him. I'd have to agree with Wolf here. Burnett has a career ERA plus of 110, serious injury concerns, and he'll be 29 next year. His age leads me to believe perhaps he's a guy with great stuff, but might never be able to put it all together. Why did he collapse down the stretch this year when the Marlins needed him the most? It will also compromise what I believe to be our biggest need, a productive RF. I read your initial post, VA, but I'll have to go back and see how you solved our outfield. I don't think 10 mil will do it for Burnett, but even if it does, we'll be bone dry and left with more holes than we started with.
  18. Also shows just how desparate the Pirates were to have some veteran presence on their team. Tell me they couldn't find a better option than Daryle Ward at 1st base?
  19. Not familiar with his methodology, but here you go... http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/2005-gold-gloves/
  20. Wow, Pettitte! I think that was the most amazing sequence of plays by a pitcher I've seen in a long while.
  21. Rawls butchered the National Anthem. Ugghh!
