  1. I'm positive at least one Cub will get drilled by a Cardinal pitcher and LaRussa will say the Cubs started it..
  2. 13 saves converted out of 14 chances and he's inconsistent? ummm.... Get a grip.
  3. People thought I was being unrealistic when I complained about only taking 3 of 4 from Pittsburgh. But today is a prime example of why that series was disappointing. The best you can ever hope for in most cases on the road is a split of a four game series. Playing a slapdick team like Pittsburgh at home there is absolutely no excuse for taking a day off like the Cubs did last Saturday and they're paying the price for it today. 5-3 after these two series is inexcusable. They should have been looking at no worse than 6-2 after today. Disgraceful.
  4. By my count there are currently one open spot on the 40-man roster. Assuming Williamson is ready before Nomar, he gets the last spot. So somebody will have to be taken off when Garciaparra is ready. FYI, I'm using the 40-man posted on the Cubs website. The position players on the 40-man but not in Chicago are: Mike Fontenot, IF Richard Lewis, IF Ben Grieve, OF Corey Patterson, IF Geovany Soto, C Adam Greenberg, OF (DL) Barring a trade, my guess is Grieve gets cut or Greenberg gets moved to the 60-day DL when Nomar comes back. This also means that if the Cubs want another RH bat for the bench he's either going to come from outside the organization or somebody will get dumped to add another guy (Kelton, McClain, etc.) from the system. As for pitching help for the pen, Van Buren, who a lot of people would like to see in Chicago, is not on the 40-man so somebody would need to go if the Cubs wanted to bring him up. Aardsma is on the 40-man however. Just wondering what people's thoughts are on this.
  5. Thing about Macias is, did anybody actually expect Baker to do anything different in that situation? I knew it was going to happen three hitters before he got to the plate. Look at his options: Murton, Hairston, Blanco and the worst player in the history of professional baseball at any level. and remember Dusty's logic: "Gotta go with the worst player in the history of professional baseball at any level, he's a switch hitter and they have a right-hander on the mound. Besides, he's due!"
  6. GMs don't make every road trip and he didn't get there until last night. Thought that was kinda curious.
  7. Well, if he's hurt the one bright spot is that Rusch is more effective as a starter and it frees up a bullpen spot for Williamson when he comes off the DL.
  8. have all three homers come with one out?
  9. If it's not a done deal yet there's no reason to pull him from his start. Honestly, if this deal happens I don't see it being announced until Thursday after the series is over so Hill starting tonight means nothing.
  10. Did he say if Hill would be up with Chicago or Cincinnati?
  11. For what it's worth, one of the reasons the Reds sent Kearns down is that he and Dunn are a bad influence on each other. I'm not sure having both guys on the same roster is a good idea.
  12. The Reds have clearly been operating with no sense of reality when it comes to their demands for Adam Dunn. Assuming they've shopped around the league quite a bit already it's well within the realm of possibility they've lowered their asking price to something more reasonable. As to Hill being a fly ball pitcher, being a fly ball pitcher didn't stop them from signing Eric Milton. Don't assume they're smart enough to have learned their lesson.
  13. I thought it'd be more like Mitre, Rusch and the Cubs' best IF prospect but this deal makes sense too. Especially if the Reds are dealing Junior. As much potential as Hill has I thought Rusch might interest Cincy more.
  14. Something else to think about with regard to Grieve, Gerut, Hollandsworth... This team is dangerously close to being too lefthanded. If the Cubs face a lefty now and Baker starts Murton, the only righties on the bench are Cedeno, Blanco and Macias (switch hitter). Now if Baker starts Cedeno, Neifi (for Walker) AND Murton, he's left with Blanco and Macias from the right side as pinch hitters. Hendry needs to jettison Macias like yesterday and find an actual right-handed hitting major league pinch hitter who can play the corners in the infield.
  15. I'm an idiot. 15 day it is. Sorry if I scared anybody.
  16. Cubs website says 60 day on the 40-man roster page.
  17. I'd wear a prom dress to work if Dusty does that. I'll strip down to a g-string if Cedeno starts along with them. Not that any of you want to see that. Here's a vote for Holly, Hairston and Neifi then...
