  1. They could send down Mitre and bring up another bat but the only position players on the 40-man are Soto, Fontenot, Lewis, CP and Grieve. Fontenot, CP and Lewis need to play at Iowa. Soto's a catcher and Grieve is redundant. BTW, I didn't realize Greenberg was on the 60-day DL.
  2. Backe/Lane/Patton is not that hard to beat. Then Rusch/Mitre/IF prospect is enough then.
  3. Dubois has the chance to develop into a quality designated hitter, which doesn't make him much use to the Cubs. This trade will help, regardless of what the Dubois lovers think.
  4. If the Cubs get Dunn it will cost no more than three players and the Cubs will get throw-in to make it look good. Four-for-one deals don't happen anymore.
  5. What would you accept for a player of Aramis Ramirez's value? That's pretty close to what Dunn is. Based on what we actually gave up for ARam Rusch, Mitre and a high-level prospect is a higher return than what the Pirates got from Hendry. And if what O'Brien asked of Houston is true, this deal would equal or beat that. The bar has been set.
  6. Gerut's not going to push Murton out of the line-up for the simple reason that Murton is only going to play against leftys.
  7. If the Reds want four for one then Hendry should say no way. That's ridiculous and O'Brien should know that. Rusch, Mitre and an IF position prospect for Dunn and a minor league throw-in.
  8. It'd surprise me. And a lot of other people. Why in the world do you think this would happen?
  9. You guys are making this tougher than it needs to be. First of all, Hairston is an infielder playing CF and all indications are he may be out the door before too long. Second of all, Grieve is ROSTER FILL. He's beyond expendable. Why anybody is worrying what Hendry will do with him is beyond me. Third, Greenberg will be back in AA if he is able to play again this year. If he was healthy, Grieve wouldn't even be in Chicago and Greenberg would be on his way back to West Tenn right now. That leaves: Hollandsworth Murton Burnitz Gerut Throw in Hairston and you've got five ML outfielders. If Hairston gets dealt either CP or Pie comes up. If Dunn gets picked up Murton's going back down. Don't see a problem with that.
  10. Probably Murton  Unless hendry swings a deal before gametime.... There is ZERO indication of this. Either Grieve or Mitre is going to Des Moines.
  11. Yeah, there's a bunch of those available right now. Market's just glutted with them...
  12. Nobody in particular. Just looked at the I-Cubs stats and the most likely guys would be Kelton, Calvin Murray and Scott McClain. The more I look at this, the more I think Hairston's gone soon. Walker slides up to No. 1 and Nomar hits No. 2 when he comes back with Gerut hitting there until then.
  13. We did dicuss it, and i think the general feeling is that the club doesn't think much of Grieve. Gerut and Grieve are very similar, though. BTW, any news on a 25 man move to clear room for Gerut?? One of the papers said either Mitre or Grieve. But I see no reason to keep Grieve around so it'll probably be him. Conversely, what reason is there to keep Mitre around? I'd really like to see the pen go down to 6. Because there's no reason to keep Grieve with Holly and Gerut on the roster? Or they could send Mitre AND Grieve down and bring up a RH bat.
  14. The Padres road unis are the color of a bodily function.

  16. The guys on the Score are idiots. My guess is that Gerut is the LH half of the platoon now and Holly is the first LH bat off the bench. It also means Murton is probably the first RH bat of the bench on days he doesn't start. As somebody said, Less Macias is a good thing.
  17. Hasn't Cordero appeared in an inordinant amount of games already? They're running out of gas. The Cubs need to pass the Phillies and move out of the way as Washington plummets past them in the WC standings.
  18. This moves makes the bench much, much better. Look at the options. Gerut becomes the LH half of the left field platoon. Now Hollandsworth can concentrate on what he does best, pinch hit. On days Gerut starts the PH options include Hollandsworth and Murton instead of Murton and Grieve. Gerut is now the only guy on the roster who can legitimately play all three outfield positions and play them well. Having Gerut on the roster makes it less painful to give Lee a day off once in awhile (Holly at 1st, Gerut in LF against RH instead of Walker at first, Hairston at 2B and Macias in CF). It's also less painful to give Burnitz a day off (Gerut in RF instead of Macias). One more thing to consider, re Adam Dunn. Perhaps Hairston isn't getting moved to Cincy but Walker is? Hairston then moves to 2B and Gerut to CF until CP gets back.
  19. And the Reds bring in a guy who wasn't good enough to pitch for the Rangers...
  20. Even as a Cub fan I don't understand why Claussen didn't come inside on somebody. Does no one know how to pitch inside these days? ARam doubles, Lee scores, Claussen gets the gate. 7-1, two outs in the fourth, runner on second. Thanks for stoppin' by Brandon. Come back sometime when you can stay longer.
  21. Washington's on the way to a massive second half collapse. Florida is already in sell mode and may be canning McKeon. Philly has the only manager in the NL dumber than Dusty. The wildcard is coming out of the Central. And it won't be the Brewers.
  22. No, I mean that if Juan Pierre is here when Pie gets here, he'll block Felix because Dusty the Dumbass will go with the "proven veteran" like he is with Perez over Cedeno.
