  1. Don't be baffled, it happens to others that USED to post here regularly. The funny part is all the name calling and second guessing of Hendry, people still wonder why he won't post here or answer questions on the site. My question to you is, if you were Hendry, would you?
  2. He happens to be right on this. He is probably right on the Pierre situation too. If he's traded, it will probably be to the Cubs.
  3. So? He has better info than most and at least talks about baseball.
  4. I like your idea of Pierre and the Giles brothers plus Cedeno. If Atlanta signs Furcal, Giles will be traded, why not here along with his brother as a FA, we certainly can afford it. Let Cedeno play and if he fails, the most hated Cub can play until a mid season trade.
  5. Seems to me that everybody's favorite put together that inefficent team. Best move the Dodgers made was dumping Depo, worst move, hiring him.
  6. Right  . The man is 32 and keeps himself in excellent condition. Very few people have sharp declines at 32, and those that do aren't nearly as talented as Ichiro. I wonder how many people said Kenny Lofton was due for a sharp decline 6 years ago, or Finley 8 years ago, etc. And those guys aren't as talented as Ichiro. If Ichiro bats .280 next season, then you essentially have Neifi Perez. I'm just saying it's due. It might not happen, but I wouldn't be shocked. You can apply this to every major league player. Barry Bonds might only walk 20 times. ARod might only hit 15 HR's. Pierre might only steal 10 bases. Manny might only drive in 60 runs. Randy Johnson might only strike out 40 guys. I wouldn't bet on any of them happening though. No, the point is that Ichiro's entire offensive value is tied to him hitting .330. He doesn't walk alot, and he doesn't hit for good power. As he ages, he'll slow down and lose bat speed, and all those extra singles he got will dwindle away. Ichiro hitting .280 means he has an OBP/SLG of .330/.390. Abysmal for someone with his salary. I'm not saying he's going to hit .280, but Rocket's point is correct. For someone who's offensive value is defined by his ability to get a bunch of extra singles, it's a smart bet that his decline will be sharper than others. For someone who thinks signing Bradley to be a great idea, I'm hard pressed to understand how you dislike Ichiro? How many times has Ichiro been suspended, sent home or sent to anger management?
  7. There is a huge problem with Murton in right field, he has NO arm and is really not a good defensive outfielder, even in left.
  8. You've done this before. No one ever advocated that team any more than anyone advocated a team of C Blanco 1B Karros 2B Jose Hernandez SS Neifi 3B Lenny Harris LF Todd Hollandsworth CF Tom Goodwin RF Burnitz Yes they have.
  9. After reading this entire thread, I find it hard to fathom why Jim Hendry would waste his time coming on here to discuss anything. The number of times he's called an idiot, moron, etc is mind boogling. How many actually buy tickets? How many experts do we have here that insult people in baseball and think they know so much more, actually understand there is more to a business than selective numbers? Yep, I'd pay to see Bobby Hill 2b Hee Flop Choi 1B Brendan Harris 3B Cedeno SS DuBois LF Bradley CF Murton RF Miller C Kelton bench Grieve bench Jeminez bench/starter It goes on and on.... Every time some is released, we have threads on picking them up, it is immature and tiresome IMO. If someone is offended, I'm sorry. But it isn't fantasy baseball, as DoPo found out. If I get banned for this, well that's the breaks. It should be a free exchange, not a group think board. If you expect mature people to frequent the board, then you should not demand they be fired, call them idiots and morons and act like you could do so much better. If you can, please explain why you aren't working in baseball.
  10. There is zero chance of Bradley ending up here. The Cubs have no interest in acquiring people who will create more headlines off the field than creating headlines by their play. Once again, ZERO chance of him trying to rehab is anger problems here. Besides, I'd much rather have Manny if I wanted a "problem child" and so would the Cubs.
  11. Levine scooped the Rusch contract before anybody Levine absolutely is not the least credible source in Chicago. That would be Phil Rogers from the Trib. Actually, I'd put him middle of the road when compared to others. He's not that bad compared to the load of crappy journalists that flood the media nowadays. Never forget the completely out of touch, George Ofman. He is the man with NO contacts. He guaranteed Maddux would not sign with the Cubs. George is the worst in the city for reliability.
  12. Levine scooped the Rusch contract before anybody True blue sounds like the good old score man, Cubbie Rich.!! LOL!!!!
  13. The difference is that the upgrade from what we have in CF to Bradley would be much greater than the upgrade from Walker to Kent. Based on that alone, it would be better to get Bradley than Kent. And just as people want to criticize Walker's defense, Kent is just as poor defensively. But Kent's offensive numbers are far greater than Walker's. Bradley is a total nutcase, he will not be a Cub. Why all the love here for a constant malcontent like Milton Bradley? Milton Bradley is the last thing this team needs.
  14. Gammons said Esptein might just take the year off. Maybe the Cubs will look at him in 2007 after Hendry blows it again this year. I don't think the Cubs will pay the GM 2.5 mil. Sorry to burst the dream. I don't think any team is going to pay a GM 2.5 mil. The highest paid right now is Schuerholz in Atlanta and he makes 1.7 mil. Well, that's the figure Theo wanted from the Red Sox.
  15. Gee, Brian Cashman will be surprised after he just signed a 3 year deal. Depo has no chance there. He's has no people skills according to all reports and that won't fly in Boston as the GM. with the feud between Larry Lucc and Theo don't be suprized if the Boss dangle an offer for an assistant job too Theo Yeah, right. WHy would he? And why would Theo?

  18. I'll bet You can get Choi really, really cheap now that DePo is gone. He won't be with the Dodgers by opening day. I'll bet they'd love to dump the lousy contract they gave JD Drew also.
  19. I rememebr this summer when Cuban said he'd like to own the Cubs....I about fell out of my chair. Big time payroll does NOT equal a good team ala this year's Cubs. I wouldnt mind Cuban being the owner, but you need quality playes, not just big time money players. Big time payroll + smart spending usually does equal a good team. Cuban's a stat geek. He'd be a tremendous owner. He's basically modelled a lot of what he's done with the Mavs off Moneyball. Only problem is there's not equivalent stats for basketball that they've found yet. I guess you missed the fact that he is a Pirates fan and would like to buy in to his real "hometown" team. Don't base everything you see in a quick interview.
  20. I thought I read this correctly ... if not, please elaborate on your point. That sounds like something out of the Jay Marriotti School of Structural Engineering. The ballpark is not going to up and fall over. More like the Sauk Village Anti-Cardboard City Improvement Plan... I wasn't saying if they built a new ballpark only the "smart" fans would show up. I don't think they would have guaranteed attendence like at Wrigley. If they built another park that would be able to hold more fans then Wrigley I think they could at least keep crowd numbers at or above the normal previous level. Maybe to pack the place full they would have to build a better team for the fans to come and see instead of just showing up to party. Wouldn't a new ballpark with more seating bring in more revenue? I never said this was the way it SHOULD be. Just a thought on a benefit if we left Wrigley. Of course this will never happen. Why would a business take that risk? They sellout now and are competitive contrary to the thinking of many here. You sound like that idiot Mike Murphy. He's still griping that the "real" sox fans can't get tickets. You miss the main point that baseball competes for ENTERTAINMENT DOLLARS. It is not based on a select fan base. Stay home if you don't like the product, others will fill the seats.
  21. Now you know why they are glad the pompous guy is gone, no love lost. Self absorbed, yes. Hopefully someone gives him a chance though, because he is insufferable as a second guesser. Reading that article made me think "what an arrogant jerk" The whole baseball world is foolish, except him. glad he's gone. Obviously SINCE 1986 no one thought any better of him.
  22. Be specific about which idiot on the score is talking. Most are useless, self serving fools that have no knowledge at all. So, which idiot are you referring to?
  23. Maybe if Josh Paul had done what he is suppose to do, there wouldn't be a problem. The ump blew the call, but the Angels gave up the big hit, just like Prior did and Todd Worrell did.
  24. I think they would sell their stake in the WB network first. I'd look for that before the end of the year.
