  1. For those that did not see the game, Dempster had plenty of "stuff" tonight, almost too much stuff. He was way too strong throwing fastballs at 97-98 and sliders at 92-93mph. Thank God he got in under control. There is something to be said about too much rest for relief pitchers.
  2. Why even have this discussion? Hendry would have traded him last Sunday for Dunn, Kearns, or Soriano if he had wanted to trade him. KC has nothing of that caliber to trade for him. I'm not worried because a team is interested, it's a compliment.
  3. Where would you put him? In center? Lawton on the bench? Padilla is a righty, and at least Holly isn't playing.
  4. Comcast played it last night. It was great to watch. I hope it is on Classic today. One shocking thing to see is how skinny all the players were, I mean all of them!!
  5. still talking to the Reds about Kearns or Dunn. He also says they are talking to SD about Dave Roberts and the Pirates about Lawton. They are still talking to Texas also. Cubs who might be involved in some of these deals COULD be Welly, Mitre, Pinto, Hairston, Walker
  6. That's just stupid. I am sure Hawkins and everyone else is acutely aware of his performance without Cubs fans enlightening them. Believe it or not, knowing Hawkins sucks does not require acting like a boob. I don't think one can actually use the phrase "acting like a boob" and still remain above the fray. Why not? he's right.
  7. Never is the answer to the original question. He is perfect trade bait.
  8. very deep. thanks.
  9. When you're hitting .206 in a month and your team is down by a run in the 9th, you need to take what the pitcher gives you. It was a slow pitch that missed the zone by about two inches and both the batter and the umpire had a clear look at it. Dowdy was just terribly inconsistent (and terrible) behind the plate for both teams today. I agree, I do think the he was inconsistent today. But this looked like a really good pitch that Hollandsworth was not expecting to get on a 3-2 count. That said you cant watch a pitch anywhere near as close to that wiht 2 strikes. Especially if you know the ump has been inconsistent all day. answer honestly... is that called strike three on Jim Edmonds? for that matter, is that called strike three on John Mabry? for that matter, has that been called a strike on any Cardinal in your memory? What is that supposed to mean? :head scratch: By the way, for those who want to argue whether or not it was a strike......anyone noticed Hollandsworth didn't take the bat off his shoulder once during the AB. Maybe that gives a little insight on his approach to the AB, and whether or not he was fooled by the pitch. Gee, did you notice that Murton swung at 3 breaking balls like he had never seen one before?
  10. The Neifi haters are certainly amusing. My friends in the Cubs organization think it is the funniest thing they have read.
  11. Maybe a sore leg has something to do with it.
  12. He should be learning at AAA, not all rookies are all stars when they come up. I think he's done fine since he's been up.
  13. No problem, I think I would trade Mitre also, he does have value for a team.
  14. Generally considered garbage? By who, people in baseball or people on this board? I'm just curious who considers him garbage.
  15. Well cancel out Shoppach and add Bigbie. Do they even have a place for him to play? I'd guess this definitely means Huff is gone for sure now. Bigbie's gonna be getting some sweet frequent flier miles this weekend. Whose reporting this by the way? Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus. He says its Bigbie for Adam Stern and Shoppach. He was going off a newspaper report that said it wasn't final though. His article (which is premium content on BP) includes no such disclaimer and describes the deal in the past tense. Doesn't make it true.
  16. What about Brian Giles? The Cards are after him.
  17. Just what they did to Nomar, Lowe and others. Preparing the fans to lose their favorite players.
  18. Cubs get Manny and Mueller for Aram, Cpat and others. I don't like it, what do you think?
  19. I agree. However, my opinion is likely invalid because I'm a victim of groupthink. Well, if you feel that way, maybe ignoring it would be a good idea. You referred to ignoring it before.
  20. There's a lot of truth in that. Good post. I agree with both of you. There is valid criticism of everyone, Dusty, the players and management. But everyday, even in wins, people feel the need to rip some decision that was made. The hate for Neifi is hard to believe. I remember when someone said he is the "worst hitter ever in baseball" and tried to justify it with some idiot's blog. Well, in 120 games with the Cubs, he's hit .280-21 doubles-10 HR's-45 rbi's and very good defense. Not bad for someone who is the backup shortstop forced into playing everyday. I remember the outrage over trading Hee Flop Choi and Bobby Hill. It is also apparent that anyone who disagrees with the consensus thinking, which often turns out wrong, is threatened with being banned. When everyone agrees or is told to, it seems to eliminate discussion. When I read the justification for the Hawkins incident, I find it embarrassing to be a Cubs fan and season ticketholder for over 20 years.
  21. I thought I might have mis read you. Thanks.
  22. Fine, so when the Cubs fail to score the runner from 3rd with no outs, or a Cubs pitcher blows a pretty good lead late in the game, you can sit there and sing "kumbaya" while I express my displeasure with thier performance. Yes, because those of us who don't boo obviously are happy when the Cubs struggle. Again, what does booing accomplish? Are the players so stupid they don't understand when they failed and need the fans booing to help them figure it out? In regards to what oldcubsfan mentioned, I really liked Ryan Dempster's quotes on the topic. By that logic, what good would complaining about the Cubs/Hendry/Dusty do on this board? Why even do it if its such a big fat waste of time and won't change anything? NSBB has become popular enough now to where some of the people affiliated with the Cubs have read it. Do you think posting your displeasure on an internet message board is going to change things, either? Not a flame, Raisin, I'm just trying to make a point. Maybe I'm misreading you, but do you really think that all the complaining on this board about Dusty and the Cubs matters to the organization? Do you truly think a business decision is made because of posts on this board?
  23. Well said. Also, other players notice this when they make a decision where to play. Would you rather play in front of a supportive fan base like St. Louis and the way Chicago was or in front of a bunch of childish, mean and often stupid fans who think they know everything?
