  1. This has to be one of the silliest posts yet.
  2. Anyone notice the Farns today? Just like last year. He is frustrating to watch sometimes.
  3. ERA, WHIP, K/9, BB...the standard stuff. i've gotten to see him pitch a few times this year. he gets rocked. his stuff is flat and he loses control easily. a change of scenery doesn't fix that. i wasn't suggesting that i wanted him, only that the individual RP should be judged rather than collective bullpen when deciding whether or not a player should be acquired. :) As long as we agree, he stinks. We don't need another bad RP. I was just saying that if Boston needs relief help and cut him, then I don't think we need him.
  4. Bah, we have Jose Macias and he is INFINITELY more valuable!!! Then I am sure multiple teams will be calling the Cubs about his availability, which hasn't changed all year--he's available.
  5. I wonder if 1 more trip through the rotation with long outings would be enough to convince people that 7 relievers is a waste. Remlinger has 4 IP in 4 outings in July. About 4 guys have had just 1 inning of work since the break. This is seriously not good for the bullpen. Cubs==Terminally Dumb. Meanwhile, Ben Grieve is a quality PH option on the bench who we jettison, AND we keep Jose Macias as one alternative. Dumb dumb dumb. Does Grieve have lice or something?? Macias is the teams' only back-up 3rd baseman. That is why Grieve was sent down. Using facts spoils the ability to insult Cubs management.
  6. Darn, beat me to it :x . Oh well, and no, its not just you. Anyone up for giving Embree a chance, or do we have our own Embree in Remlinger? Why is it that everytime a team RELEASES someone, people think we should pick them up? Boston's bullpen is a mess and they released him. Come on, this is getting silly.
  7. Thanks for all your work, that was great!!
  8. Well, he is a kid. But the media always seems to trash people. Because he said no to them, is nothing I hold against a player. Look at the Cubs last year with the media vultures. alou had a great year, but they helped run him and many others out of town. To be honest, I should state that I have NO respect for the press, I find the reporters to unfair, lazy and generally jealous that they aren't the story.
  9. Shocking that Phil Rogers would do that. And I'm with you, abuck. Only a fool like Rogers would give up on a 25 year old kid. He has produced in the majors, before this year's disaster. Rogers is one of the most over rated writers around.
  10. Actually I don't think he'd make a very good personel man. I disagree strongly with his statements about clutch players, the usefulness of guys like Hairston, and his occasional small ball mentality. I do believe he's a very good television analyst. I wouldn't call him a second guesser, you can't if you actually listen to what he says. I don't deny his arrogance, but then against 95% of people in sports are arrogant SOB's. We agree on a lot you say. I do disagree about the second guessing. Today he again slams Dusty about hairston and walker batting 1-2. Saying it basically was obvious for 83 games, he fails to mention Walker was out 6 weeks. His continual snide comments last year and this year turned me off completely. If anyone criticizes him, he howls. He is extremely thin skinned and yet claims he is objective. I know I'm in the minority but I am glad he's gone.BTW, the definition of true 2nd guessing is coming on soon, Mike Murphy. The Cubs win again he's going to tell us what was wrong. Talk about useless.
  11. What is laughable is all the consternation about Stone. What constitutes unnecessary and necessary shots? The Cubs have deserved all sorts of shots. They've played terribly for long stretches, they've made stupid decisions, repeatedly, and can't seem to see the things that most everybody else in baseball can see. I'd call an analyst incompetent if he didn't point this stuff out. I apologize for the hijacking of the game thread into another pointless Steve Stone debate. I just don't get all the paranoia that surrounds the man and his words. It is very obvious you believe Stone is a genius. Some of us disagree, and obviously at alot of people in baseball disagree or he would be making decisions for a team.. That's why is he is in his perfect element, that being a terrific second guesser and an amusingly arrogant commentator.
  12. I agree there are questions about Hill, but there are also many, many questions about the potential of Kearns. The Reds aren't sure about him, it isn't like he is a lock to be a star. I'd rather keep Hill.
  13. You realize there is one major flaw with his arguement right? Grieve is 29 right now. Sammy was 32-33 when his numbers started to drop off. There is a big difference in those 3-4 years. Also, is it really necessary to respond to the same post twice? In my final response then, please answer the key question, why aren't all the contenders after him?
  14. I would say, if you think keeping Dusty Baker is the answer, you're twice as delusional. Replacing Dusty is one of many answers. He's the wrong manager for the wrong team. I said it before he was hired and I haven't seen anything resembling evidence to the contrary. Let's see here, the team hits .213 with men on 3rd and less than 2 outs, yep it's the manager. This is becoming silly. He is setting them up for failure. Do you want to know why the team hits so low? Because baker continues to put the guys that suck it up out there. Look at the lineup he was going to run out there tonight. Macias batting over Hairston? Neifi leading off? You wonder why our offense is so horrid. That doesn't answer why they hit .213 with a man on 3rd less than 2 outs. blame the players. the next worst team in that situation hits . 240.
  15. Ben Grieve isn't worth all the arguing. I'm sorry. The Cubs problems are not because Ben isn't with the team. for those who like him, fine. Bring him up. For those that don't see him as the answer to the many problems, fine also. sorry for carrying on, but what the heck, it's fun to talk baseball.
  16. I'm not offended, but I don't see how the quote above is relevant. My point was that Grieve consistently hit in the range of a .270 AVG and .370 OBP when he was in the majors. I think looking at his stats over full seasons when he got 500 ABs, rather than the 150 he's had in Iowa this year, provides a more accuate predictor of future performance. If you prefer, here's his 2004 stats over 230 ABs w/ the Brewers: .261/.364/.415 I just meant to point out those stats are old and not a predictor of future preformance.
  17. I'm not President of the Ben Grieve fan club. I'm just saying he's a better alternative than Macias. I would like to point out that you haven't claimed that I'm wrong about that. Do you really prefer having Macias and his .260 AVG with a .280 OBP and no power? BTW - I'm not sure the fact that Beane trades a player or lets him walk suggests that the player stinks. If I recall, Beane let Tejada walk a couple years ago. And I think he traded Mulder and Hudson too. I'm not saying Grieve is as good as, or close to as good as, these guys. I'm just saying Beane "dumps" players for reasons other than ability. And I'm just saying no other team seems to want him. So is all of baseball wrong?
  18. That is what that guy wrote. And you wrote Don't pretend you were not misrepresenting what this person wrote. >248 in AAA sucks, nothing is misrepresented.
  19. Not to be offensive, but it is 2005. I love to have Sammy back comparing those same years.
  21. Let's make it simple--Ben grieve stinks. Billy Beane dumped him, Lou Piniella called him soft and benched him, yet the numbers crunchers like him. Who's wrong here? His numbers in AAA are lousy, yet people want him on the team. Something is wrong here.
  22. That is what that guy wrote. And you wrote Don't pretend you were not misrepresenting what this person wrote. I didn't misrepresent anything.
