  1. That is fine for you, but usually the argument is used to try to convince others to change their minds. If the book has no interest for someone, it sure doesn't make it wrong. Just because someone writes a book with their bias in mind, doesn't necessarily make it must reading.
  2. I agree. I'm more interested in who released "secret grand jury" testimony and am wondering why criminal charges haven't been issued.
  3. Thank God it isn't our lineup. You could reacquire all of them for very little now. BTW, you forgot Hee Sop in that list.
  4. I'd still look for Tejada to be coming. A good package of pitching and prospects and a 2b man could be the way it goes.
  5. Anyone know how many games are sellouts? The last I saw, 23 were completely soldout.
  6. I've gotten in twice in the last 20 minutes. Summer weekday games still have bleacher tix available.
  7. Look for the Yankees to sign him. George will love seeing number 600 in NY.
  8. Sorianno will probably be the starter for most of the games this year. IMO.
  9. And what happens to Murton, especially if you don't use him in this trade?
  10. Last week when he was on with Bruce Levine he said for the right deal no one was untouchable, including Pie.
  11. Didn't Halo go broke? Stockholder lawsiuts also? They would have to overpay big time for the Trib to sell to a group with Stone in it.
  12. What makes you say that? He let Steve Nash go over money. Bad move for the Mavs. He doesn't throw his money around like you assume he would.
  13. I noticed that Mike Fontenot isn't listed in the top 50 and that Theriot seems to be the one they like a lot more.
  14. I would love to hear that also. Too bad Mark Peel doesn't post here anymore. He's was terrific providing minor league info.
  15. How about putting up the world series teams for the same years, could be interesting.
  16. Oooh, the old inside scoop from a newbie (at least, i dont remember ever seeing him before). Sweet. Just because he's new doesn't mean he knows any less or more than anyone else here.
  17. It's very simple, the Dodgers want to compete now. jackson has been a disappointment for them.
  18. I think that Williams is the main piece of the trade for Tampa, not Walker. They want pitching. Walker is just a throw in to clear him off the roster.
  19. It is sorely evident that you, along with others, are choosing not to comprehend certain components of this discussion. I think we comprehend the matter just fine. Please try to show us slow learners where all this demand for Patterson and Walker is coming from.
  20. Well, you've made the point for me. He had no leverage. At all. Thus, it makes more sense to gamble into creating some leverage through 1) better play at the ML level; 2) better play at AAA; or 3) need created though injury in ST or the first part of the season. Negotiating is all about leverage. Trading players without any is just stupid when you know a player has talent (e.g. Corey). If it were some clown like Macias, when you are unlikely to get anything more than you've seen over his stay with the Cubs, then the likelihood of gaining leverage is low if not non-existent. But, that isn't the case with Corey. It is bad negotiating, pure and simple. It is always easier to make comments like this after the fact. Why, pray tell, is that the case? I have been anticipating this lackluster move (as have many) since October. Hendry moved Sammy at his lowest value (and, in fact, contributed to lowering his value). Hendry is more interested in a clean clubhouse rather than addressing messes that he had his hand in manufacturing. Don't try to diminish my point by making me appear as if I am only preying on hindsight. It doesn't take a clariavoyant or baseball executive to derive the opinion that this was a trade in which Hendry would be hard pressed to get less value at a later date. I am 100% certain that Hendry at some level decided to move Patterson prior to the Convention so as not to repeat the 05 Sosa debacle. His moves regularly have a tinge of panic to them as of late. When should we have moved Corey then? Didn't I already address this? No, he wasn't. He made a poor trade because he is shortsighted. Well, since the season ended there has be NO demand for Corey, he got what he could. Why do you think demand would have increased for a completely undiscipled ball player? You feel there was value to get, but I'm not sure why. I'm sure this conversation will happen again when Walker is launched for nothing. There is NO demand for these players. Please show me where there is any demand for either player other than just assumptions.
  21. Apparently no team in baseball thought so.
  22. I think the most compelling reason would be that there is a good chance he was the 4th best OF on the team, and $3m is not outlandish for 4th OF, especially not for a team that guarantees $5m for Neifi Perez. There was also a decent chance he'd be the 3rd best OF, and an outside shot of being the best or second best OF on this years team. That's not saying I expect him to be all that good this year, but the current OF isn't any good, and it wouldn't take much to outproduce some of them, at least. Neifi had a far better year than Corey did. Perhaps. But he still sucked, and he consistently sucks. Corey's off year was an unexpected low. Neifi's crappy season was an expected clunker. The point is if you are willing to pay Neifi $5m, you have to be willing to pay Corey $3m, so money can't be the reason. No, to make it equal you would have to say you are paying Corey $6 million. Maybe Neifi didn't help fantasy teams, but he sure as heck wasn't the main problem the Cubs had. It is entertaining to read people missing Corey after all the bashing he has received on this board for at least 6 months. It is interesting that you make this kind of statement given that you are certainly bright enough to know those comments are coming from different groups of people. It makes me wonder what the purpose of such a statement could be, other than to provoke the person you are addressing. I'm pretty sure with Neifi's bonus money he is indeed making 6mil. I was responding to the bolded portion of OCF's statement. I wasn't the one who put it in bold print, heck I don't even know how to do it!!
