    I could use a bit of advice on a trade I've been offered. I would be giving up Travis Hafner and Matt Cain for Jake Peavy. I have Jason Giambi on my DL who I could slot in for Hafner. I'm just wondering if the upgrade from Cain to Peavy for the rest of the season is worth the downgrade from Hafner to Giambi.

    Maybe you can work a trade for him, because his future in Chicago is very limited. True. Unfortunate and unjustified, but most likely true. I do appreciate your imput, but why is it unjustified? I know there is a huge debate in the organization about Murton's value, what do you think his real value is? Thanks for your time! Well, his line from the 2nd half of last season is better than the line Soriano put up the first half of this one... so I'd say he could be quite valuable.

    That would qualify as a shot in the arm, literally and figuratively. It would be much more likely to be injected into the gluteous maximus than the arm.

    Just for a little bit of perspective... Murton's 2nd half line last year - .319/.390/.522 Soriano's line this year - .296/.335/.511 If Murton inherited 100% of the playing time, there's a decent enough chance it could actually help our team.

    Correct. Sarcasm, right? You do realize speed doesn't mean jack crap at the top of the lineup, right? As a matter of fact, our attempts at stealing this year have actually cost us -3.52 runs according to EqSBR on BP. Murton's OBP is far more important than any amount of speed could be. Actually, according to studies by Bill James, batting order as a whole makes little or no difference. As long as you don't bat your worst hitters at the top or middle of the order you can mix the other players around randomly and the total runs created comes out almost exactly the same. Tom Tango's studies show that a mild, but significant, gain can be made by using the optimal lineup. I don't think Lou has the cajones to bat Lee 2nd, though.

Matt Holliday - 46.9 Barry Bonds - 44.0 Eric Byrnes - 35.0 Manny Ramirez - 32.8 Adam Dunn - 30.5 Hideki Matsui - 28.8 Carlos Lee - 27.3 Pat Burrell - 26.5 Alfonso Soriano - 26.0 Josh Willingham - 26.0 Chris Duncan - 25.9 Carl Crawford - 23.4 Granted, that doesn't include defense, but Soriano obviously isn't so elite that losing him, even for the rest of the season, would be reason enough to abandon hope for this year.

    Unless I'm mistaken, Blanco has been out for 60 already and Guzman is right there too. I wouldn't be surprised to see either moved to the 60 day DL. If Gooz isn't there yet, Blanco will be moved, and Gooz when Blanco is ready to be activated.

    Given the information to this point, I'd probably just go with option #1. However, it'd be a lot easier to figure out if you posted the rest of your team. Without the context of your team, it's fairly hard to figure out a course of action.

    I'm very exicted about this. Though I find myself wondering if he's worth picking up in my fantasy league if it means I have to drop Bill Hall. Upton probably wont be top-tier for a couple years, but I still can't resist the urge to go ahead and grab him.

    So Soriano doesn't count? (Maybe you're thinking he's past his prime...) 31 at the start of an 8 year deal? Yeah.... Santana would be 30 and a pitcher. Pitchers prime and position player primes don't really match up. For guys who actually make it through their early-to-mid twenties intact, I believe the prime years are generally considered to be around 30-31. Although I may be way off there. 29-30 for pitchers. Santanas going to be a huge injury risk with the innings getting up there routinely. The Twins have done a remarkable job keeping his pitch count down though. PAP Rank 2004 - 72 2005 - 71 2006 - 70 2007 - 47 Yeah, he's racked up a lot of innings, but it helps that he's not facing many batters each inning on account of his tiny WHIP, which has kept his pitch count low enough that the innings aren't so scary. I wouldn't call him a huge injury risk, though there is a non-negligible risk there.

    Almost everybody is put on waivers.

    I'd say Howry is underperforming a tad, but with relievers being so volitile, I don't see much of a problem with the list.

    Every single person traded now has to pass through waivers if they're on the 40 man roster.
