  1. theresben a hell of alot worse called strikes today Not debating that he hasn't made other mistakes. And I certainly wouldn't have minded seeing one there.
  2. That was a ball. It could have been called a strike, but it would have been a mistake.
  3. I don't know. He just doesn't seem to be able to get any lift on the ball any more. These balls that he's rolling over to SS are pitches he used to drive into the gaps on a consistent basis. In the first four games this year that doesn't seem to look any different from last year. I hope you're right, but I really have no confidence in him anymore. Four games does not a season make. Have faith. Remember, for all the bitching about his offense last year, his EqA last year was .279... with major league average first baseman at .283. Average with the bat and plus defensive value... and he's still got some upside to return to form. At the very least, his walk rate is almost a lock to rebound a bit. I hope you're right. Until he figures it out though, I'd still prefer him to be lower in the order. I wouldn't have a problem with that either. for that matter, leave him lower in the order even after he figures it out. He probably belongs down in the 5-7 area. What I do have a problem with is the absurd rallying against such a classy guy while he still maintains value to the team. Some people need to control their urge to bitch. (Not directed at you, Butters)
  4. What are you going to bitch about when DLee starts hitting again? you actually think that's going to happen? I think he'll be a .825 to .850 OPS guy with subpar range at first but great receiving skills. Pretty much the same guy he was last year... overpaid, but couldn't be much less of a problem to this team. What I am convinced that will change are the absurd GIDP tendencies he showed last year that were completely out of whack with his career numbers. I don't know. 6. Absolutely yes. Hill can be above average for a backup catcher... Bako wouldn't be above average with the bat in AA.

  8. Nice to see him stay in there and drive it to left, rather than getting out ahead of the plate and just trying to flick the ball that direction.
  9. Seriously, wtf is that thing? Nightmare fuel. probably the best response possible for this. That's why I said it, duh. excuse to bump it further into the thread>

  11. I always confused Brian Shouse and Seth McClung too.
  12. Soriano didn't get a bad break on that ball... his positioning was just horrible. Which is the fault of the coaching staff and Lou.
  13. I heard tonight that the driver was an illegal immigrant... is this true? Does it make a difference?
  14. Terrible news. By all accounts, he was a pretty good kid...
  15. i'm actually NOT concerned about those people at all. Enough idiots shout loudly enough, and it will make at least some impact. Even the media was all over Kosuke after a weak showing opening day. Today bought him some credit, but a slow start and we might see the idiots try to push him out of town.
  16. There isn't much I'm not excited about. Aaron Miles is junk, and I've resigned myself to the probability that DLee is going to settle in as a slightly above average 1B on the downslope of what has been a nice career. I see very nice upsides for everybody else in the lineup... and Hoffpauir is a nice bench bat, Gathright has excellent value if he's never allowed to pick up a bat, and Koyie Hill is... well, he's not Paul Bako. I love our rotation, and I think Lou and Jimbo made all the right calls with the bullpen at the end of spring training. Patton has some real upside, Gooz is ridiculously filthy when healthy... and we can keep Shark starting at AAA til we need an injury replacement. Hell, I'm even excited at the thought that Vizcaino is the last man in the bullpen... he hasn't looked good since 2007, but he should still be quite a bit better than the last man in most other pens.
  17. I know your being sarcastic, and I know this is going to sound dumb. But I always liked Nyjer Morgan and glad to see him get a chance to play everyday. You and me both. I love when other teams shoot themselves in the foot.
  18. Yovanni Gallardo just hit a 3 run bomb.
  19. Each time they pitched him inside tonight after the beaning, I was sure he was going to rush the mound. It was glorious.
  20. Knock on wood. It's still quite early... and the Braves just dropped a game like this today.
  21. The only people in the lineup without hits so far are Bradley and Lilly... and both of them have had a couple real nice plate appearances.
