  1. I might be the only person on earth who doesn't mind having Joey Gathright on the roster. As long as Lou doesn't let him hold a bat very often, he can be quite useful as a pinch runner or fielder.
  2. god youre annoying. what the hell is the point of a post like this? And this one?
  3. Demp, Heilman and Ascanio looked great today. Harden relied heavily on the offspeed stuff, and seemed to be working around 92.
  4. Esmailin has had a great spring. Hope he is a starter with Iowa come April. He looked excellent out there today. The Royals batters barely even put up a fight.
  5. Yup. I know Jimmy Anderson was sent back to us to complete the trade where we sent him to Boston. That was back in 2004, I believe.
  6. Gary Matthews Jr., Vernon Wells, Eric Byrnes, and Carlos Silva are pretty terrible contracts. And the Chris Carpenter extension was boneheaded as well, though not because of the years or money.
  7. That's not to say he shouldn't have been more patient. Essentially benching him at the end of the season, when we already had everything locked up... there was no point to that.
  8. I think its pretty clear from this quote that I wasnt happy with his performance hence the qualifier "as a pitcher." I dont see how that is remotely about his personality. However, I do think that he does wilt when the pressure is on stats can support that. See the Arizona playoff game for a prime example and batting avg against in certain counts. Either way because I think he is mentally weak has nothing to do with a personal attack on him. There is obvious reason to think so and I am clearly not the only one You must have one heck of a man-crush on Rich Hill or you are a relative because this is ridiculous. And Rich Hill must have slept with your sister. You're going out of your way to come up with ridiculous (read: worthless) arguments about his mental state. BAA in certain counts? Are you serious? That's half a step above attacking him for HBPs on Wednesdays.
  9. I'm a little offended Curt hasn't popped in here to talk to us. Is SoSH really such a better site?
  10. Are you sure you're thinking of the right guy? Manny hit .347/.473/.587 for the Red Sox in June when you're saying he supposedly quit on them.
  11. You leave my mother out of this, you anti-semite!
  12. Let Gregg close; I'd rather have Marmol as the fireman. +1. Gregg is more than capable of being a very solid closer with 40 saves, where Marmol is the best setup man in all of baseball. And don't forget that a full season in the closers role will probably make Gregg a Type A free agent when he walks... and potentially a pretty attractive one with a cursory glance at the market.
  13. Well just look at Joe Morgan who had excellent patience as a player... *hack* *sac bunt* *pull the ball to the 2nd baseman with less than two outs and a runner on 2nd*
  14. I picked Death, but this is dependent on the notion that I'll get to challenge the reaper for my life, as seen in Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey.
  15. I would really hope the Cubs don't consider Barney a roadblock for anybody. I'd honestly rather see Ryan Harvey playing there.
  16. Yeah. Poor guy. How can one reasonably expect to live any sort of comfortably on a lousy $10 million a year? I wonder if he can qualify for welfare on that sort of pay. Juan Pierre is making like 10 million a year, isn't he? I can understand him not wanting to play for that annual salary. I'm not saying that it isn't a lot of money, just that it makes a lot more sense for him to turn it down knowing that info. that's not the annual salary. that's what he gets this year; from 2011-13 he gets $25 million for doing nothing. deferred money is not money that doesn't exist. But it is money that he doesn't get to collect interest on... lowering the effective value of the contract.
  17. Perhaps you would like to escort them to a dark, out-of-the-way room where they wont be bothered by this filth? Perv. Why would you do something like that?
  18. what? no it's not, that's absurd. that's the same thing as me admitting to smoking weed. "i know that i smoked weed, and i'm sorry. i just don't know what kind of weed it was. i'll tell you one thing though, i know it wasn't heroin that i was shooting into my vein." You've got that backwards. If you want to use a terrible analogy, at least make sure it matches up. Steroids > Tic-Tac Heroin > Weed At any rate, tic-tacs are as innocuous an object as there is, and many people use them in reference that way... not in a strict "I ingested something through an oral cavity" meaning.
  19. Aaron Miles 2/5 Mark DeRosa traded to Cleveland is the biggest Cubs blunder this offseason (even bigger than letting Wood walk), and is probably one of the 5 dumbest moves this offseason. Trading DeRosa was a smart move. I'm not huge on the prospects we got, but I had no problem with moving him. Fontenot could do a similar job starting for a fraction of the cost. The blunder was in signing Aaron Miles as his replacement.
  20. I'm a little disappointed to see Rhee back at Peoria... but that's just because of the injuries. If he stays healthy, I wouldn't be surprised to see him make it to the majors sometime in 2010.
  21. interesting i thought so. but unless i missed something (which i doubt, considering all the attention this story has got) the media didn't pick up on this. That's because reading anything into that statement at all is preposterous.
  22. Don't forget, his career was essentially ended by a series of suspensions for the use of PEDs... amphetamines rather than steroids, but still...
  23. Correlation does not equal causation. Take the results from medical studies on steroid effectiveness and plug them into physics equations. That's how you get an idea of what kind of effect they have. Your proposal wouldn't prove anything. ARod and Bonds were going to the HoF if they never touched a needle... some other people on that list probably were too. Big names using them doesn't mean anything... it doesn't even mean that's why they became big names.
