  1. But will Farney be available? I'll bite.... what's a Farney ? That's the little man inside Freel's head. No joke.
  2. Yeah, if that's true, its pretty obviously he was roiding. When I first heard the story, I was thinking it would be a JC Romero kinda story, but its becoming pretty clear he was roiding. I dunno... I do have a hard time believing Manny would stand up and fight if he was actually taking it for fertility. "My boys swim in circles" isn't exactly something you want to announce to the world. "I'm a steroid user, so you can black-ball me from the HOF" would be a lot worse message than I need help with my swimmers, no? For Manny? I wont pretend to know what he's thinking when he's acting "normally." I'm just playing devil's advocate here.

  4. It also has legitimate use as a fertility drug for males, increasing sperm production. So poor Manny was just trying to have some kids. Manny being Shawn Kemp maybe? It's certainly possible. I'd love to knock up Manny's wife.

  6. ADD would be a good place to start looking. I thought I heard elsewhere that he wasn't nailed for an amphetamine.
  7. No steroids, no amphetamines, no recreational drugs... banned without a positive test. What the hell did he do?
  8. If you don't operate with an assumption of innocence, you must live a very depressing life. There's anecdotal evidence I can use to "prove" every single ballplayer uses steroids. How are you supposed to enjoy watching a ballgame where you can't respect the accomplishments of anybody?
  9. Dumping Gaudin was a much better move than dumping Vizcaino.
  10. BP's Minor League Update for May 4.
  11. I don't have a problem with him occasionally deciding to pull the ball if he guesses right on a pitch and a location in a hitters count. I don't want him to try to pull every 3-1 fastball, but one outta five might not be a bad idea... just to keep opposing defenses honest.
  12. No. Hendry got max value. He just didn't get what everybody thought he was worth.
  13. What's done is done, but this may be the most inexplicable move Hendry has made in his tenure. Not at all. Quite a few people recognized that trading DeRosa could be a good move well before he made it. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great return... and he completely bungled his follow-thru. True, it didn't look as bad at the time as it does now. But when you see what has gone on at 3B over the past week, what Aaron Miles has done and watched Hoffpauir play the OF, man, does it look bad. It just cries out for a guy like DeRo. Selling high is always a good idea, but jeezus. At the time I was supporting the idea of trading, I was supporting it while retaining Cedeno to play a legit SS, and picking up a bargain bin 3B backup like Russell Branyan. And I was supporting using DeRosa as a key piece in a larger deal, like for Peavy or Beltran.

  15. Part of the problem still falls on Lou and his insistence on carrying a 12 man pitching staff. We'd be better off carrying Jake Fox (or even Bobby Scales) right now than carrying David Patton.
  16. Huseby with control? That's exciting.
  17. Nobody is giving up anything useful this early in the season. Management can't signal they're giving up on their season this early.
  18. Nobody is trading a major cog in their team this early in the season... that probably even goes as far as guys like Wes Helms on the Marlins, let alone Uggla or Cantu. If you want to get somebody, it has to be somebody management has been trying to unload for years... a la Bobby Crosby. Or you could try to nab a player from AAA somewhere... I still think Hendry's failure to sign McPherson is one of the more egregious errors of the offseason.
  19. Quit exadurating.
  20. The PECOTA projection starts off being by far the most useful of the bunch, but loses that utility as the season wears on. Just FYI.
  21. I know Fontenot was adjusting to seeing all those breaking balls... but they still can't ever think throwing him a fastball is a good idea.
  22. I could see Jimbo offering to pick up a small chunk of Bobby Crosby's contract. That might be marginally better than running Koyie Hill out there at 3rd way too often.
  23. We already had this convo in the game thread. I said it there, so I'll just quote myself...
