  1. It's amazing how many people want this. I'm just curious, why is everyone so opposed to this? The guy has won a World Series ring, and as far a I can see, really knows the game and the Cubs personnel. How many times have you heard him suggesting sac bunts in the first inning? He won a WS ring riding Schilling and Johnson all the way... he's not a good manager.
  2. Bradley's OBP by month: April - .333 May - .348 June - .377 July - .457 August - .488
  3. Logan White and Kim Ng say hello. Logan White is the best GM prospect and if they were to replace Hendry, he would be the only one on my list. Chris Antonetti belongs on the list too... but I'd prefer White.
  4. The Phillies are just sitting on his fastball... It'd be nice if the Cubs had let him work on his other pitches a bit in the minors instead of riding the pine up here for months at a time.
  5. Do clutch players exist? Possibly. It's tough to find an adequate criteria to determine clutch, and limited sample sizes of that make the job considerably harder. Are there players out there who fold in the clutch? Absolutely. While again, clutch is harder to determine... basic human nature suggests that there are some players who have trouble with the pressure. Greinke, Willis, and Greene amongst others have all struggled with anxiety related issues, and would seem to be slightly more likely to fold under extreme pressure. Here's the real question... how do you identify which players on our team are anti-clutch? Given the extremely limited sample sizes, it's impossible to accurately determine who was just cold, who was unlucky, and who walked off the field after dropping a load in their pants. You want to blow up the whole team? Fine... but you're gonna ship off some players who very likely could have been a huge positive impact on the next postseason series. Edit: Can a mod delete this post? I want to see if this page can be entirely taken up by people on my ignore list.
  6. He's quite good for a color man... not the best or anything, but well above average. The problem is simply that he fancies himself to be more than that... if he'd realize he's never going to make it into a front office, he'd be a lot better off.
  7. No I'm sorry. I didn't mean to give the impression that I was stating an opinion... much less one that could be refuted by so little as saying "No." I don't mean this article as the gospel, but I don't feel like going to all the hassle myself of explaining why you're wrong. Start here and let me know when you get lost. http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/blog_article/why-should-i-care-about-alex-rios/
  8. We could have had Hudson this off-season instead of Miles; why would u think we would go after him next season? That is a gross oversimplification... We weren't looking for a starting 2B this offseason. We were looking for a platoon partner / veteran backup for Fontenot... a player that the Cubs likely no longer feel capable of being an average starting 2B. Furthermore, at the time that we signed Miles, Hudson was still looking for a completely ridiculous multi-year contract. One can rest assured his contract demands will be more much reasonable this coming offseason after he was forced to take a hugely incentive-laden one year deal for very little. And that's to say nothing of the fact that the basis of this thread is to create our 2010 Cubs... not take a guess at what Hendry will do.
  9. Good move by the Sox. He's projected to be about exactly worth his contract to an average team... he's worth significantly more than that to a team in a close pennant race like the Sox. Good move by the Jays too.
  10. Let Grabow walk.. hoping he's a type B so we can get away with offering arbitration. Offer arby to Harden and Gregg regardless. Focus in on Stephen Drew and Orlando Hudson... I'd be willing to give up Theriot+ in a trade for Drew if Hudson was willing to sign a decent contract. More thoughts as I get them.
  11. And to think we could have traded him straight up for Tejada. There's a bunch of myths surrounding that supposed trade... there was never a straight up offer. The Cubs offered Prior for Tejada and Bedard. The Orioles offered Tejada for Prior and Pie.
  12. So in a prospects-for-veteran post-deadline deal, you'd tend to see lower level prospects traded, right? You'd never see the top blue-chip prospects that are already on somebody's 40 man roster, because they would be claimed immediately? Or is there some other loophole that would allow this to happen? If I'm remembering right, it's possible to use a PTBNL as the loophole for this to happen as long as the player is not in the majors. The club would trade for a PTBNL who would be announced after the season was over when he wouldn't have to go through waivers. This doesn't happen often with 40 man guys because there usually are so few majors trades that happen where a big prospect that wouldn't clear waivers would be involved. Actually, they can be in the majors... but if they are a PTBNL, they have to be traded to the opposite league. It's a silly, silly rule.
  13. I believe they adjusted that rule so you have to bat or play the field before you can be removed from the game due to some misuses by Earl Weaver.
  14. Starlin Castro is really making me pay for saying I preferred Junior Lake in the preseason. Keep it up good sir.
  15. Whether he said that or not is irrelevant. Jake Fox can barely play 3B, if at all. I don't see him playing 2B in anything but an emergency scenario.
  16. I'd imagine Chris Robinson is added to the 40 man for september and probably DFA'd shortly after the season, a la Casey McGehee last year.
  17. That's a really good defensive outfield and you still have Alvarez in the wings. I knew I was forgetting a few people... Alvarez and Milledge both could make their way into that lineup pretty easily.
  18. The Pirates are trading players away who aren't going to be a part of their next contending team. In return, they are getting some very high ceiling youngsters who very well may be capable of turning them into a contending team. C - Clement 1B - Pearce / Jones 2B - Young SS - Cedeno 3B - LaRoche LF - Tabata CF - Hernandez RF - McCutcheon Provided that team has players hitting its ceiling, that is a lineup that could be very scary.
  19. His LD% has slipped a bit and that's partly responsible for the drop. But he's also been a bit unlucky on balls put in play. He should look more like a .725 or .750 OPS guy with neutral luck and just a slight bump back towards the norm in the LD department.
  20. Actually, it was really smart... just badly executed.
  21. What's the old saying... intent follows the bullet? If I were him I'd be looking for a plea.
  22. Yeah, fields aren't kept quite as well at lower levels as they are in the majors.
  23. Worst case scenario, Lugo plays like Miles or Blanco. Best case scenario, he doesn't. For league minimum why not give it a shot?
  24. It's pretty obvious he's not fully healthy. I see no problem with sticking him in AAA for a month or so to see if his arm strengthens up enough to make him useful. Low-risk, high-reward.
  25. People tend to forget Burke was a supplemental first rounder since we didn't actually draft him. His stock here is a good bit lower than it should be.
