  1. I was all about Schmidt, but I don't have access to his medical records, and every indication is the Dodgers knew they were signing him injured. I'm not gonna beat myself up over that. I was wrong on Padilla, Westbrook, and Meche though... I saw Lilly in the middle of that group... and them in that order. My being higher on Marquis than most is a pleasant surprise, though. He's unfairly maligned around here.
  2. I've heard Lee referred to as an 80 runner. I was skeptical, but he's making me a believer that it might be true.
  3. I picked a good game to go to. Four for four on the year now... including two extra inning walkoffs.
  4. From the April 10th Game Thread. viewtopic.php?f=26&t=53689&p=2135836&hilit=dlee#p2135836 (in reference to DLee's offensive woes) You came to your conclusion rationally... and you thought the same as cubswin2009. Shame on you.
  5. So which of red bull or coffee are banned by MLB or illegal by federal law? Of course whatever Sosa tested positive for hasn't been released yet either... True... and I do wonder if it could simply be amphetamines. Sosa was actually linked to those in the past. Did the article say he tested positive for steroids, or a PED?
  6. It was in baseball in the 70's. Tom House has mentioned it a lot.
  7. Why the assumption that Griffey Jr wasn't juicing? I've been debating who, out of everyone that's played baseball since 1985, would be the absolute most devastating name for baseball to have revealed as a steroid user. Junior Griffey would probably be #2 behind Ripken. I'm open to other names and suggestions, though. Jeter? Maddux? Good choices. I was also thinking Pujols and Mo Rivera. Jamie Moyer might do just as much as any of them. The penultimate crafty player who gets by almost without physical ability... if he used, that'd cast just as much doubt on the game as anybody else.
  8. What's the difference between Jeff Bagwell, Frank Thomas, and Ken Griffey Jr.? I'd venture to say that if you really feel compelled to say one of them probably did it... you should feel the same of the others.
  9. This is a shame, obviously... but in regards to the minor celebrations by people anxious to pat themselves on the back, I still will refuse to apologize for withholding my judgment of the man until some proof was actually available. You got lucky you didn't condemn an innocent man... to pat yourself on the back for that is absurd. As to Sammy himself... I'm very disappointed, but not terribly surprised. He was still one of the brighter spots in the last two decades of this organization, and I will continue to appreciate some of the amazing things he did for us... but this certainly taints the memory somewhat.
  10. Buzz Bissinger v Will Leitch part deux.
  11. I would kill for your draft instead of ours.
  12. I don't have any problem with drafting a guy like chris dominguez... light tower power but needs some work on his contact. I don't have any problem with grabbing a guy like LeMahieu who makes contact but needs to learn how to pull the ball and put some power in his swing. But what on earth is the point of drafting a guy without power or contact? Especially considering he may not stick at a premium defensive position. What is the upside with Jackson?
  13. I feel better about Kirk after seeing he got clocked as high as 95... I was a bit concerned with reports that he topped out at 91 or 92 and had little room left for projection. Not that fastball velocity is the most important thing in the world or anything, but it certainly leaves for some wiggle room.
  14. To say I'm underwhelmed at this point would be to imply that I'm somehow whelmed at all. I'm not.
  15. What's the general feeling on Kentrail Davis? He was probably the most talented player at UT this year, but I had no idea how he was viewed nationally. Why do you think he'll be a tough sign? As a draft eligible sophomore, he's got plenty of chances to go back and try to up his stock if he doesn't feel he's getting paid like he should... which he probably wont be, given his performance this season.
  16. I like the Padres drafting Everett Williams. It allows them to hedge their bets against Tate not signing.
  17. mlb.com's draft tracker is going really slow...
  18. I like Kentrail Davis for the Brewers, but he's gonna be a real tough sign. They probably could have waited til the 4th or 5th and he'd have still been on the board.
  19. To be fair, Colvin and Jackson weren't but there was a damn good case for Cashner and Vitters. Wieters was obviously better than Vitters, but I agree that you could make a case for taking Vitters. Taking Cashner over Friedrich though?
  20. Tim Wilken is 4-4 in picking something other than the best player available in the first round.
  21. K's a lot, doesn't walk a lot. Hits for decent power but a lot of people seem to think he won't in the pros, sounds like he might have a hole in his swing or something Sounds like a Rob Deer or Russ Branyan, or worse, Jason Dubois. Did you stop reading after "K's a lot"?
  22. This increases the chances of Brett Jackson falling to us. Not woohoo. :( Anytime somebody I don't want is eliminated as a possible pick of ours, I will rejoice.
