  1. Might as well make it an official welcome, especially so we don't have to continue using GR as a name reference. Jeff is taking over Robert's NC Cubs team. With that out of the way, commence newbie attacks.......... Now! :clapping: :yahoo:
  2. Normally, abandoned teams are replaced by now. Rosters are supposed to be pared down and everyone's money is supposed to be in the commissioner's hands as we venture into a new fantasy baseball season. Any rule changes should be getting discussed now along with just getting familiarized with our teams and the available talent pools and draft orders once again. Robert hasn't been replaced. DeShawn and Chuck's levels of participation have been disappointing. Don had expressed interest in moving on. A few other managers are in jeopardy of not having their rosters pared down or their fees paid in on time. Is trimming the league size a better idea than trying to find last minute managers to replace the non active managers? And if it is, there is probably a lot to discuss in how to go about doing this.

    The DL

This has been brought up before, but is anyone opposed to increasing the amount of DL spots? Is this something that needs to wait until this season is over, or can we consider increasing it now? The juggling act I'm performing right now is becoming a real pain in the ass. One more DL guy, and there won't be anyone I wish to drop to get 7 starts for the week. Part of my bench has become DL players. Dropped a guy I didn't really want to drop because my DL is full. If we did implement more DL spots, we might need to discuss how to prevent every DL guy in the free agent pool from becoming extra storage on some team's DL, because that is not what the addition of more DL spots would be designed for. With the current group of sissies playing this game, 6 DL spots might not be enough.
  4. What should we do here? We were all very patient as he held up round after round of the draft to make his pick. While he got better about managing his pitching starts, he doesn't appear to be making the necessary roster moves to make his team legal. He currently has guys on the DL in his starting line up, and guys who have been off the DL for a few weeks now that are still on his DL. The commitment of a few minutes each week just isn't there, and I don't think it's asking all that much to make sure your line up is legal and competitive each week. I can certainly understand and respect if he's so busy that he just doesn't have time to manage his team, but if that's the case, maybe someone else can take over the team until he has the time to dedicate to managing the team once again. This has been an ongoing problem for a while now. Thoughts?
  5. Al (Quakers) chose him with the 98th pick (7th round), but a hiccup in the system skipped that pick.
  6. Before the draft on Monday, I might need to let Rodelo adjust his roster due to some bad information I might have given him regarding Tim Stauffer. He asked me to double check his roster and I basically told him that Stauffer would count towards the cap since he has 5 different years of major league service time with his first year counting as an exemption. For some reason, I was under the impression that once a player had burned an exemption that any service time in future seasons would also count as an exemption, but that's not how it's worded in the rules. It just says that an exemption is burned in any year that there are less than 50ab's, 5 starts or 10 relief appearances. Stauffer has two seasons mixed in between exemption years burned that wouldn't count under this rule. If that is how the rule is to be, Rodelo should be able to pick Stauffer back up since it was I who told him his points count towards the cap. I realized this now after seeing that Juan must be counting Yovani Gallardo this same way as Yovani's second year did not eclipse any of those numbers in his 4 years of major league service. If Yovani counts towards the cap, that would put Juan's team over. If he doesn't, then Stauffer doesn't either. I could have sworn that when we established this rule, it only pertained to players who had not yet burned an exemption, and that once a guy burned his first exemption, any future season with even one at bat or pitched inning in the big leagues would count as another season burned.
  7. Woo Hoo! Sleet was the name of the game in San Diego last night. Hardly seems like it's time to play baseball again, but sure enough........ The draft will begin March 7th. This draft will be an extended online draft where each owner should be notified by email when it is their turn to pick, and they will have a certain length of time (yet to be determined) to make their pick. We hope to complete the draft within a few weeks, as we will still need to conduct a prospect draft immediately following the major league draft. I've set the major league portion of the draft to 10 rounds, and those 10 rounds are for major league eligible only players. After 10 rounds, anyone in the free agent pool will be fair game provided they are not eligible for the prospect draft. The prospect draft will be minor league eligible players only. We will continue choosing until everyone is done choosing. You are allowed to draft beyond the roster limits in both the major league and minor league drafts. However, trades will not be allowed if your roster is illegal. Please go to your Roadkill fantasy league page and double check to make sure your email address is correct. This is extremely important! League news, messages, updates and announcements get sent to the inbox for the email address you provide on that site. I'm aware of one manager who had the incorrect address on that site, and that the old address hasn't been valid for several years now.
  8. When would we like to begin the draft? I've scheduled an extended online draft, and this feature hasn't worked the last few years, but they have made some significant upgrades this offseason to the software, so maybe it will work gooder this year. Discuss!
  9. I renewed the league at $149.99, so I basically need $9.00 from each manager. Unfortunately, I do not do paypal, so you'll have to send me a check or money order to: Brian Frankland P.O. Box 19848 San Diego CA 92159 I'd like to receive each manager's check by February 14th. I'll have Tito break your fingers if you are late with your 9 beans. Payment Received: Brian Al Robert Don Navin Karen Rodelo Juan Clint Tim Shane Adam Deven Bob Tarr (with an Australian $20 bill, making him paid up for 2012 also). Glad to see Olivia Newton John getting some face time on Australian cash.
  10. We have sadly replaced Bukie and Vick (don't remember his screen name). Juan is taking is old team back, which was the team Vick took over from Juan. Dlocks will be taking Kevin's team. I guess Deven kicking everyone's ass was too much for these other guys to handle. Anyway, welcome aboard and here is to another great year for our league and hopefully a good year by our Cubs. Please give the new guy an opportunity to look over his roster before you pillage his roster with trades.
  11. We have at least one spot to fill in a 16 team, H2H keeper league. I'd probably wait until a bit closer to baseball season to post this, but rosters need to be pared down from the previous season by February 14th. The new manager will need to gain a bit of knowledge about how the league works and to decide who to keep and who to dump prior to the deadline. This league has been in existence for quite some time and has been extremely competitive. There is a very small fee to participate, and fees are not required right away. Inquire via PM if interested. We have minor league rosters and drafts as well as major league rosters, so knowing a little bit about prospects is helpful. Turnover in this league is typically 1 or 2 each year at the most, so if you enjoy keeper leagues and like stability, this might be the league for you.
  12. Anyone with thoughts or preferences for rule changes of any kind, please offer them up here. I'm leaving for Vegas this am and won't be back until Monday. If someone could post on the message board at Roadkill that this thread has been started, it might be a good idea to discuss and change rules before teams start dropping their players. Cap points limits, exemption eligibility, etc.. Whatever you would like to see changed, feel free to offer it up here.
  13. Lots of new owners this season, so this is a quick reference FYI regarding what happens with your team during the offseason. In a nutshell, nothing is required to happen prior to Valentine's Day. That's been our magic date for the last several years to trim rosters down to 10 players/maximum cap 2000 points (based on 2010 total points earned). However, the earlier you know whether you will have cap room for trades, the better. A lot of teams will be interested in making trades with you. This is the time of the year that you can make subtle changes to your team or completely revamp your roster. Your team can have no more than 10 major leaguers and 10 minor leaguers and the maximum cap of the non exempt players you keep can not add up to more than 2000 points. Be sure you look at their major league point totals rather than the team totals when calculating a players total points earned. Please read up on the exemption rules for players, as it's too lengthy to go into full detail. If you have a question or concern, please ask. Don't assume and don't be bashful if you aren't sure. Just ask. Carefully paring down your roster and maintaining as much strength as possible is one of the keys to winning in keeper leagues. Everyone generally has more points than they can afford to keep at the end of the season. Not just Tim. :) A lot of teams are looking to make trades to shed these players for whatever they can get. If teams have room within the cap, they will be popular with teams attempting to shed cap points. It's always better to get something rather than nothing. In my experience, I tend to do well when I have cap space. I can choose to do business or go with what I'm already happy with. With that said, happy trading once the season has come to a complete finish. Trades can be discussed beforehand, but no trades can be executed before October 4th. You also are not allowed to add players to your roster at this time (unless your team is still competing in playoffs and you need an injury replacement). You can trade major leaguers, minor leaguers and draft picks, but you cannot trade cap points. Thanks for an enjoyable season. If anyone decides they have no intention of keeping their team going into 2011, please let us know sooner rather than later. We want to get a new owner in here well before the Valentine's Day deadline so that they have time to make cap decisions for their team. I will probably start a few threads asking if there are any rule changes or modifications we want to make before the start of next season, so please check in on occasion. We will go with a majority on votes, so check in so you can be heard. We will likely decide on draft dates sometime after Valentine's Day.
  14. The prospect draft order is determined by the final season standings. 1. Bazingas 2. NC Cubs 3. Quakers 4. Sock It Thome 5. SABR 6. Eyes Of Texas 7. Mighty D-Block 8. Habitual Linesteppers 9. Tootielicious 10. Harry's Budcrew 11. Fuzzy Logistics 12. Kid Rodelo 13. Galesburg Hand Sanitizers 14. Ron Washington's Dealers 15. Alamo Stealth 16. NSBB
  15. I'll be setting up the playoff schedules later this evening. Please note that no trades are allowed until the season has come to a complete finish. Your players will continue accruing points towards the cap until the regular season is over, so you can't determine your cap totals until the regular season is over. Therefore, it's recommended that you do not make any roster changes before then. Good luck to all the playoff teams! All rules for playoffs are basically the same. Since I don't believe there is a tie breaking procedure for playoff matches, in the event of a tie, the team with the most regular season points will win the tiebreaker.

    Week 20

A bunch of people playing against one another! I'd post the schedule, but I'm leaving for Vegas in the morning and I have a lot to do yet. I will basically be gone for the rest of the month. I am planning on hooking up internet in the room, so I should have access that way and by iphone as well. Try to keep your starts to 7. I am working my ass off for these two weeks, and I shouldn't have to clean up anyone's mess. Thanks and good luck to everyone except my opponent this week. :D
  17. The trade deadline is quickly approaching. No trades after July 31st. Your roster must be legal before any trades can occur. The trade deadline also sets the draft order for the major leaguers for next year. The amateur draft order will be based on end of season standings. Happy trading. Or not.

    Week 5

Lynx (4-0) at Alamo Stealth (3-1) Harrys Budcrew (3-1) at Ron Washington's Dealers (2-2) Northside Baseball (2-2) at Sock it Thome (0-4) NC Cubs (0-4) at Galesburg Hand Sanitizers (3-1) Quakers (0-4) at The Eyes of Texas (0-4) Kid Rodelo (3-1) at Tootielicious (2-2) Mighty D-Block (2-2) at Bazingas (1-3) Fuzzy Logistics (3-1) at Saber Metrics (4-0) Top 4 teams in the West play each other, so we'll call those the featured match ups for the week. They can all be 4-1 after this week, or Lynx and SABR can create some more separation.

You have 10 minutes from the time I posted this.
  20. Thanks for taking care of this so quickly. Within 5 minutes after I make this post in here, I will remove myself from this forum as well. Sorry once again that things didn't work out.
  21. Found this on Foxsports.com: AL East: Yankees — 103-59; Rays — 93-69; Red Sox — 92-70; Orioles — 71-91; Blue Jays — 70-92. AL Central: Twins — 92-70; White Sox — 85-77; Tigers — 74-88; Royals — 72-90; Indians — 67-95. AL West: Rangers — 82-80; A's — 81-81; Angels — 80-82; Mariners — 77-85. NL East: Phillies — 90-72; Braves — 88-74; Mets — 82-80; Marlins — 76-86; Nationals — 72-90; NL Central: Cards — 91-71; Cubs — 86-76; Brewers — 78-84; Reds — 74-88; Astros — 73-89; Pirates — 66-96. NL West: Dodgers — 88-74; Diamondbacks — 85-77; Rockies — 84-78; Giants — 80-82; Padres — 77-85. He uses some formula that he made up. Nothing too earth-shattering about most of the predictions, but I found both the AL West and NL West interesting. In the AL West picking the A's to finish 2nd and the Mainers 4th (although the division is very close) seems wrong. In the NL West, I would question picking the Diamondbacks ahead of the Rockies and Giants.
  22. This is tremendous. Excerpts: I don't know if this guy's being serious or satirical, but if it's the former, I'm in awe. http://www.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/jerry-thornton/2010/03/09/geeks-will-inherit-earth?page=0,0
  23. Aw [expletive]! :glare:
  24. February 17. The draft will be conducted here and will last no more than 5 rounds. You will have 24 hours to make a pick - if you will be out - please let me know so we don't skip you.
  25. I guess we all kind of figured that there would be interest in Bradley from around the league. Interesting to see that Ricketts has set a limit on the amount of money the Cubs will include in a deal. Indication that payroll won't be going up anytime soon?
