We have at least one spot to fill in a 16 team, H2H keeper league. I'd probably wait until a bit closer to baseball season to post this, but rosters need to be pared down from the previous season by February 14th. The new manager will need to gain a bit of knowledge about how the league works and to decide who to keep and who to dump prior to the deadline. This league has been in existence for quite some time and has been extremely competitive. There is a very small fee to participate, and fees are not required right away. Inquire via PM if interested. We have minor league rosters and drafts as well as major league rosters, so knowing a little bit about prospects is helpful. Turnover in this league is typically 1 or 2 each year at the most, so if you enjoy keeper leagues and like stability, this might be the league for you.

Anyone with thoughts or preferences for rule changes of any kind, please offer them up here. I'm leaving for Vegas this am and won't be back until Monday. If someone could post on the message board at Roadkill that this thread has been started, it might be a good idea to discuss and change rules before teams start dropping their players. Cap points limits, exemption eligibility, etc.. Whatever you would like to see changed, feel free to offer it up here.

Lots of new owners this season, so this is a quick reference FYI regarding what happens with your team during the offseason. In a nutshell, nothing is required to happen prior to Valentine's Day. That's been our magic date for the last several years to trim rosters down to 10 players/maximum cap 2000 points (based on 2010 total points earned). However, the earlier you know whether you will have cap room for trades, the better. A lot of teams will be interested in making trades with you. This is the time of the year that you can make subtle changes to your team or completely revamp your roster. Your team can have no more than 10 major leaguers and 10 minor leaguers and the maximum cap of the non exempt players you keep can not add up to more than 2000 points. Be sure you look at their major league point totals rather than the team totals when calculating a players total points earned. Please read up on the exemption rules for players, as it's too lengthy to go into full detail. If you have a question or concern, please ask. Don't assume and don't be bashful if you aren't sure. Just ask. Carefully paring down your roster and maintaining as much strength as possible is one of the keys to winning in keeper leagues. Everyone generally has more points than they can afford to keep at the end of the season. Not just Tim. :) A lot of teams are looking to make trades to shed these players for whatever they can get. If teams have room within the cap, they will be popular with teams attempting to shed cap points. It's always better to get something rather than nothing. In my experience, I tend to do well when I have cap space. I can choose to do business or go with what I'm already happy with. With that said, happy trading once the season has come to a complete finish. Trades can be discussed beforehand, but no trades can be executed before October 4th. You also are not allowed to add players to your roster at this time (unless your team is still competing in playoffs and you need an injury replacement). You can trade major leaguers, minor leaguers and draft picks, but you cannot trade cap points. Thanks for an enjoyable season. If anyone decides they have no intention of keeping their team going into 2011, please let us know sooner rather than later. We want to get a new owner in here well before the Valentine's Day deadline so that they have time to make cap decisions for their team. I will probably start a few threads asking if there are any rule changes or modifications we want to make before the start of next season, so please check in on occasion. We will go with a majority on votes, so check in so you can be heard. We will likely decide on draft dates sometime after Valentine's Day.

I'll be setting up the playoff schedules later this evening. Please note that no trades are allowed until the season has come to a complete finish. Your players will continue accruing points towards the cap until the regular season is over, so you can't determine your cap totals until the regular season is over. Therefore, it's recommended that you do not make any roster changes before then. Good luck to all the playoff teams! All rules for playoffs are basically the same. Since I don't believe there is a tie breaking procedure for playoff matches, in the event of a tie, the team with the most regular season points will win the tiebreaker.

It's going to be real interesting to see how Tampa does this year. A rotation of Kazmir, Shields, Garza, Sonnanstine and Price is pretty solid. Last year was sort of a down year for BJ Upton, Carl Crawford and Carlos Pena. Between Longoria's late arrival and injury, they didn't get a full year out of him. Crawford showed up to camp in excellent shape. Is this the last year in Tropicana, or are they moving into their new park this year?

Swisher's stock sure did fall quite a bit over a one year period.

Are we sure that Byrnes signed that contract after Quentin was traded? I could swear he signed it before Quentin was traded, and also before Justin Upton got his first call to the majors. I kind of thought Quentin was traded because Byrnes already had a long term deal, Young already had CF locked up, and Upton had the brighter future. IIRC, Upton was called up for a cup of coffee in 2007. He's on the 07 roster on the BR page with minimal at bats. Byrnes signed the extension in August. So yeah, they traded Quentin in the offseason (December, for Cris Carter, who was sent over to complete the Haren deal). Perhaps they intended on trading him after his poor showing to make room for Upton? So in reality, they had already signed Byrnes, so they had a logjam in RF. Either way, they made the right decision at the time. I'd have traded Quentin as well You'd give up on a stud prospect early so you can lock up a below average LF just because of clubhouse presence and intangibles? They didn't do that. They signed Byrnes before they traded Quentin and once Byrnes was signed, it became a bad contract that they weren't going to be able to move. Quentin got them Haren, which in my mind is a pretty good deal. They probably never should have given Byrnes a long term deal, but since the damage was done, they made the best of the situation by trading one of their young stud outfielders for a stud pitcher, which they needed. With Byrnes hurt last year, they were able to move Conor Jackson back to the outfield, so it's not like they were left with no options. What? Eric Byrnes was extended on August 7, 2007. Carlos Quentin was traded on December 3, 2007. So they locked up Byrnes and then 2 months later realized he wasn't worth it? I think it's pretty clear that when they signed Byrnes they had a plan to trade Quentin in the offseason. I think it's pretty clear that they had designs on Byrnes in LF, Young in CF, Quentin in RF and Upton in AA. When Upton impressed with his September call up, they decided to trade outfield depth for a stud starting pitcher. He went .221/.283/.364 in his September callup. So what? You said they planned on Quentin in RF for 2008 and that those plans changed when Upton impressed in his September callup. So his .221/.283/.364 made Josh Byrnes go "man, I really wanted Quentin in RF next season, but I don't see how we can deny Upton that job after his 62 OPS+ in his callup. Screw it, I've gotta trade Quentin... it's the only way". Which is more likely... that scenario, or the fact that they had planned on Upton in right all along and trading Quentin? I'd think a GM has a plan when giving out a 3 year contract. I think it's obvious the plan was to trade Quentin. I don't see any other reasonable theory. They knew Upton was close to being ready and they knew Upton was locked in at center. There was nowhere for Quentin to play. Upton put up those numbers at the age of 19. He was their poster boy draft pick. The fans took to him very quickly with his hot start. He hit a home run in his first game at home. Quentin didn't do anything with the club. Maybe there weren't plans for him to play RF, but he was a back up plan there if Upton wasn't ready. The D'Backs decided Upton was ready. Quentin helped net Haren. Upton is a RFer, not a CFer.
