At this point, I'd say what's done is done. Obviously, my vote only counts as 1 of 16, but I can't see undoing trades that have already happened. Might as well make whatever trades people want to make and then we can re-evaluate these rules for next year's draft.

If I had a vote, I'd probably vote to allow the trades that have happened at this point to stand, because they weren't told they couldn't make those trades.

I'm not going to pick a side at this point, but since I love sharing my opinion, I'll go ahead and do that now. The decision to allow trades during the draft is something that should be discussed and voted on. These aren't the kinds of things that should just be implemented without everyone having some involvement. Without a lengthy discussion, you don't get the option of hearing the bad that can come from the decision to quickly implement a new idea. Adam certainly makes a strong case here. If you are limited to 10 players, you should be limited to 10 players. You shouldn't be able to hold off on a trade until the start of the draft to do a 2 or 3 for 1 deal. And with the extremely short notice on changing to an extended draft, which people like DeShawn didn't even know about, it's really hard to justify allowing even more changes to the league structure without more input from everyone who has an opinion on the matter, and then a strong vote to implement the rule after that. Can someone trade a 1 for 1 or a 2 for 1? Can someone trade 3 draft picks for 1? There are a whole lot of questions that aren't answered, which makes it hard for me to support allowing trades of any kind at this time. Making it up as we go along also really isn't fair to the people who aren't here right now. These are things that need to be published in the rules, and probably include a sticky explaining how the rule will work if it's something new.

They really need to fix the draft room. As more and more players come off the board, it's going to get very difficult determining who has been picked and who is actually available to be picked.

lol - not disputing anything. I was just pointing out the O's willingness to live with a wild man in the rotation. They could set a record for walks if they put both Hill and Liz in the rotation, though. Fwiw, Cabrera is more talented than Hill. That would be fun to watch them on back to back days. It could be even more fun watching them pitch on the same day since they no longer play on the same team. Daniel Cabrera is a Washington Nat.

You have to be careful to distinguish between proclamations made here and what's been said by the team. Folks around here have a tendency to assume the worst, and many people here openly believe Miles will eventually be the starter (based on nothing more than gut). Belief in cyber-reality is stated as fact (as I just did - that irony isn't lost). Then it gets repeated in a few dozen threads. But the organization hasn't said much other than to say that Fontenot has earned the opportunity to win the job everyday based on his play last year. I've seen quotes to the effect that Miles will be tried at 3B, SS, 2B, and the OF this spring. Bottom line is Lou doesn't hand many non-fully established players an everyday job outright. He believes in the power of positive competition between teammates and sometimes his expectations carry a short-leash for results. We won't really know Miles' role until May or June probably. That's a pretty broad characterization of the board, and it's probably not necessary. Anyone and everyone can make their own conclusion of how the 2nd base job will be determined. Fontenot has very little major league experience hitting lefties. It's a pretty safe assumption that Fontenot's bat will be in the line up against RHP, since management has expressed a need for lefty bats in the line up. However, when a LHP is on the mound, it's another safe assumption that Miles will get the call, since Lou likes to go with a RH dominant line up against LHP. While this would indicate a platoon, Fontenot will be the main benefactor of playing time since there are way more RHP's than LHP's. In a sense, you can call it a platoon. Lou does like his veterans. If Fontenot steps up early, then the risk of losing playing time to Miles (who can hit from both sides of the plate, though not very well) will be lessened.

I'll probably be on for a little bit this afternoon between 3:30 and 6:00 Eastern time while taking short breaks from preparing for my night class. Murton's chances of landing an a 25 man roster spot are looking dimmer with the latest news that Ian Stewart will get some time in left field. Not sure if I'm missing anyone from their current outfield crowd, but with Stewart, that makes it: Hawpe Ryan Spillborghs Carlos Gonzalez Seth Smith Ian Stewart Matt Murton Dexter Fowler probably won't start with the big club, but he's going to factor in sooner rather than later. Murton may need Helton to have another injury plagued season just to win the 5th outfield job.

I think that goes for a lot of teams. If I was able to keep 2500 points, I would have been thrilled to keep BJ Upton or Milton Bradley, and come to think of it, I probably could have kept both.

I'm still bitter that I had to be out of town the Wednesday through Monday the week I played your team in the playoffs. Nothing like not managing your team without a computer. The 26 point difference wouldn't have been that hard to make up if I didn't have an injured player not scoring for me.

My team looks pretty similar to last year. My only pick so far just so happened to be my 1b last year, Carlos Pena. I only need 1 more position player. I'm really counting on the group of Carlos Carrasco, Max Scherzer, David Huff, Adam Miller and Neftali Feliz to step up and fill out my rotation. Latest news on Scherzer is that his shoulder hurts. Freakin' baby.

so who's the other middle infielder? It will probably be someone who gets cut from their team right before the season starts. Utility infielders are a dime a dozen.

I don't know about that. Most of your non exempt keepers had off years last year, and you should expect most of those guys to bounce back. I think what killed your momentum was Rich Hill.
