  1. Uehara is signing for 6m, per Jesse Rogers.
  2. DAMN... I thought that was Heyward. Fowler has the best celebrations/reactions. That, Schwarber Dong vs Cole last season, his game 7 HR trot, etc.. He clearly knew it was gone off the bat. Of course we all did. That's a great photo.
  3. ok but really. is going from rondon/edwards/strop/davis to edwards/strop/davis/chapman(or Jansen) worth $18m a year? Honestly, I don't expect a lot from Strop or Rondon this year. They worry me. And I don't expect the Cubs to go after Jansen because I think they are trying to build Edwards to be the closer for next year with Davis in the helm this year. But yeah, I think another World Series while basically cutting the game down to 6 innings max is worth 18M, if they chose to go that way. I find it hard to believe that neither come back to their old selves. Even if they do, Edwards and Grimm or Edwards and Montgomery (assuming someone else ends up in the 5th starter role) would make pretty good set up guys for Davis. If Strop and Rondon come back to their old selves, this bullpen is the best in baseball.
  4. Yeah, I'm not joining in on that argument.
  5. Edwards starting in AAA, What!?!?!!!! No. He was our second best relief pitcher for a good chunk of the year behind Chapman and they brought him in Game 7 of the WS to save it ahead of Rondon and Strop. Short of an injury he's gonna be in the major league pen all year. Zas I agree starts in AAA as SP depth/development Maddon eluded to going Edwards over Rondon and Strop in game 7 because they just didn't seem like they were where they needed to be after coming back from injury. During regular season games was time to practice and try to get back to full health, not during the playoffs/WS. The few times they did go to Rondon, he clearly wasn't the same guy they expected him to be, so they went a different route with Montgomery, Edwards and extra frames from Chapman in high leverage situations. That doesn't mean that they won't have full faith in Strop and Rondon going into the 2017 season.
  6. Only if he pitches shirtless.
  7. I'm not really sure I want to see the Cubs use Schwarber as a straight platoon. I'd like to see him become an everyday player. Given that he will likely sit a lot versus lefties, I'd probably still rather see Contreras or Zobrist out there ahead of Soler. The Cubs can time their behind the plate rest days for Contreras for an upcoming lefty matchup where he can play LF. If Contreras is in LF, that means Montero is behind the plate vs a tough lefty? No thanks. I don't think it will be a straight platoon. Among lefties you might sit against a tough lefty, (i.e., sans rizzo) you have Schwarber, Jay, Heyward and Montero. To replace them you have one of Javy/Zobrist, Almora, Szczur, and Contreras. I'm guessing that 2 of Schwarber, Jay and Heyward stay in the lineup vs. lefties. Soler will be missed. Assuming they don't carry a 3rd catcher.

  9. 40 innings is probably all we will need from Davis during the regular season. This offense is getting pretty good at playing "Screw The Closer". I like this trade. One season of Davis might be the perfect bridge to Edwards. Maybe he is over his health problems and they can get him signed to an extension that is cheaper than what Jansen or Chapman would have commanded. Maybe Theo has his eye on a few guys that will become available next year. I really like Davis. Wish there were more years left on that contract, but this move puts them just a few more arms away from calling it an offseason.
  10. You'd have to get both players to agree to give up save opportunities. Chapman seemed pretty horrible for the Cubs and even seemed upset when he wasn't being used in a save situation. I wouldn't put it past New York to want both, but I don't know that either of the players would accept a contract to not be the regular closer.
  11. Sorry. No take-backsies!
  12. Oh geez. I read this whole thread before posting that. At least I thought I did.
  13. I just read that the all star game being used for home field advantage has been done away with. Any truth to that?
  14. you call it clutch, I call it pixie dust (actually he had a .999 OPS with men on last year with SDG) That's all Epstein needed to see. Once .999, always .999!
  15. it's amazing that KB won the MVP Driving home yesterday from some shopping in Mission Valley, San Diego on one of the busiest freeways in town I ran across a full billboard congratulating Kris Bryant on his great season. He's wearing his San Diego uniform in the picture, but still very cool.
  16. Does Happ have any chance of being a decent defensive CF or is he bound to 2b? Seems like he's discussed in trade scenarios more than anything, but with a 1 year rental on Jay, maybe the organization believes one of Almora or Happ could be ready by 2018?
  17. Seems like a cheaper version of Dexter. Will likely play CF and lead off. His splits as a lead off hitter for his career is .282/.344. Jay Bryant Rizzo Zobrist Schwarber Russell Heyward Contreras If Heyward can figure things out this offseason, I'm happy with this. Use the saved money on Dexter and spend it on a closer. Trade off Soler and minor leaguers on a starter and a utility infielder and I think this team will be kinda good.
  18. I don't know, I'd think it'd be just as annoying to watch Cubs prospects we have salivated over for the past few years becoming stars down at the G-Spot. I realize this would probably be the worst time in the last however many years to trade their best player to the Cubs but at the end of the day making your team a winner is the most important thing. If the Sox think they can get better players from the Cubs than any other team, they need to make that deal. The bigger problem isn't that they are unwilling to deal Sale across town, but that they are telling the world that they won't. That's just dumb. With as many trade suitors out there, the likelihood that he gets traded to the Cubs is low. A good GM says he will entertain all offers and make the deal that best fits the White Sox needs going forward.
  19. Aren't there some teams out there with money to burn or in dire need of starting pitching going to offer Hill 3 or 4 years?
  20. I'm the same. Always cheer for them to win, especially against division rivals. Didn't get my feelings hurt when Bellamy dropped the ball. To have as many players go down to injury and still be competitive against anyone at this point tells me that there is some decent talent to work with going forward. Seems as though Langford has fallen out of favor with the coaching staff. Or they are looking to protect him from aggravating the injury he missed several weeks with. Carey got more carries/plays than Langford yesterday.
  21. I don't think he was ever actually listed as healthy. He was back to return punts, but I can't remember if he just fair caught all of them or let them go by. Nevermind, I just looked at the box and he had one short return. It's probably better to just let the coaching staff grade out the younger kids and see if there is anything worth sparing after the season, so I had no problem with Eddie sitting on the sidelines. I have to say it was pretty weird seeing guys with numbers catching balls that I had no idea who they were. Don't have a clue who Brown is, but that was a nice catch for the first td.
  22. Can we get the best of the rest and have them suit up to help Cleveland win 3 games?
  23. I was reading that they don't believe Gardner has the capacity to play an adequate CF anymore, although on days where he would play against a RHP, he could play RF and Heyward could move to CF. Not knowing what kind of arm Gardner has, maybe he and Schwarber switch OF spots in that instance. We do know Maddon doesn't mind moving people around. Doesn't seem like there is really that much savings from Gardner to Fowler, except in years. I also wonder if the back of the bullpen will be addressed before they make a decision on Fowler since that's likely a more pressing need. How long will Fowler wait? He waited a long time last year, but his suitors are plentiful and likely less patient this year.
  24. Wasn't that Deuce Base? Or Deuce Baseman?
