  1. Apparently everyone except the Cubs front office. Actually, except the Indians front office if reports are to be believed. Fair enough.
  2. Apparently everyone except the Cubs front office.
  3. KW would have to trade Garland, Crede, Buerhle, and Konerko for enough prospects to get Cabrera. Nah. I think Sweeney, Fields and McCarthy would probably get it done.
  4. If you're going to do that, at least put Murton second and don't platoon him with Jones. And I'd never ever bat Huff in front of ARam. Soriano Murton Lee ARam Huff Barrett DeRosa Theriot Assuming Jones is getting the bigger percentage of at bats in a platoon with Murton (more RHP than LHP), is why I put DeRosa 2nd. Aramis seems to like the 5th spot in the order more than 4th. Or is it just my imagination?
  5. No, but JD Drew did. Playing time. A - Drew missed a lot of '05, but played almost 15 more games than Huff last year. B - I'd be very happy with an .891 OPS and 145 games next year. The quote was that he has been much better over the last 5 years. The only thing Huff has on Drew over the last 5 years is playing time, which is all they could possibly be using against Drew. Huff- 717 games Drew- 598 games
  6. Sign Huff, move Soriano to CF and the Cubs would have a very solid line up. Soriano DeRosa Lee Huff Ramirez Jones/Murton Barrett Theriot I've decided to stop putting Izturis in the line up from this point forward. It's better for my own health. But, again.... I think the Cubs will be using the money it would take for someone like Huff and applying it to pitching.

  8. Interestingly enough, that would have been my counter-offer. :D
  9. I'd prefer Tanya Harding take care of Mr. Bonds.
  10. They want young starting pitching - either Marshall or Marmol if the reports are to be believed. The Jones market must suck b/c the O's reportedly offered Newhan. Church >>>>>> Newhan. Nah, that's just the Orioles attempting to take Hendry to the cleaners once again.
  11. He'd likely gobble up the money needed to get another starter. But, I do like Huff.
  12. That has to be the most positive sounding post I have ever seen from you about the Cubs! Problem is, Goony is dreaming. The Cubs won't do this. They'll likely trade Jones for little to no return and Church will probably be traded to someone else, leaving Hendry to pay 6m for Lofton. Sorry to burst your bubble. :D
  13. If Hendry can't move Jones for quality value, just keep him. Trade for Church, trade bullpen arms and prospects for another starter and call it an offseason. An outfield of Church, Murton, Jones, Soriano and Ward works for me. The rumored deal for Marcus Giles to San Diego was Scott Linebrink. A combination of Eyre or Howry with Marmol or Mateo might be enough to get Hudson from Atlanta. Atlanta should be able to move Giles easier since they are discussing nontendering him if they can't work a deal. Hudson is expensive now.
  14. They just need to get this deal done before someone else swoops in and pulls the rug out from under the Cubs.
  15. Let me try this again. Pitcher's aren't afraid to throw to him now because a home run now is not going to associate their name to the record book. When it gets closer, they will be less inclined to be the pitcher that gives up the record. This is what I think you are ignoring.
  16. And I think you're ignoring the fact that pitcher's aren't nearly as afraid to pitch to him as they once were. However, as he nears that record, pitchers will not want to be the guy that gave up the record, so they will likely pitch around him even more. I said I might be wrong. But, I hope I'm not.
  17. He only hit 26 last year, and he had more protection than he'll likely have this year. I don't think it's out of the question that the record stays in Ruth's closet for another year.
  18. Southside is right. They feel now is the time to make a few moves and gear up for a run over the next few years. It won't be easy, but they have a lot of youth that is getting ready to step up to the bigs.
  19. And what pitcher is actually going to give up that famous shot? It may take another season before the record falls, IMO. I think he really walks alot this year. Unless teams are really afraid of Rich Aurilia and Randy Winn. As opposed to the past several years where everyone has pitched to him? He gets pitched around every season and still manages to hit home runs. Pitchers are going to occasionally get more of the plate than they want, or they're just going to be cocky/stupid enough to think they can sneak one by him. Do you think they'll still be cocky/stupid enough to give up the tying or record breaking shot? Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think the record is broken in 2007.

  21. Unfortunately, Hendry doesn't seem to see it that way. I doubt Lou will either.
  22. Plan B? Not by my calculations: Plan A- Jason Schmidt Plan B- Barry Zito Plan C- Tim Hudson Plan D- Dontrelle Willis Plan E- Jason Jennings Plan F- Jake Westbrook Plan G- Jeff Suppan Plan H- Ted Lilly Plan I- Gil Meche Plan J- Greg Maddux Plan K- Angel Guzman Plan L- Carlos Marmol Plan M- Shawn Marshall Plan N- Juan Mateo Plan O- Any warm body I forgot to list other than Jason Marquis Plan Z- Jason Marquis
  23. There are actually two positions left. CF and SS.
  24. The difference is, you might be leading the game 1-0. I can live with Soriano leading off and leading the game 1-0. I can't live with Izturis being the automatic out before Lee even gets his bat out of the rack.
  25. While I agree with what you're saying, it most certainly won't be a Murton/Baldelli deal. Lots of pitching, no doubt.
