Tampa had opportunities to improve their pitching staff at the deadline last year with Lugo, Huff, Hendrickson and Hall, but they got very little in return in regards to pitching. They got more good prospects on the offensive side of things, but how much more do they really need right now when it's already too crowded? A 3 pitching prospect trade for a guy like Carl Crawford or Rocco Baldelli would have been way better than trading for 1 year rental Juan Pierre. Doesn't necessarily mean that Tampa is smart enough to make that deal, but there aren't many teams that are going to trade frontline starting pitching prospects for outfielders. They totally lucked out on the Kazmir deal, and I think it's spoiled them. About the only team I can think of that a deal with a Tampa outfielder would make a little sense is Pittsburgh, who have a lot of young pitchers to offer.
