  1. I'll have to disagree with you on the Dodgers.
  2. It looks like Thome should be ineligible at 1b as well.
  3. At what point does eligibility get updated for each player? I noticed that David Ortiz is still listed at 1b. By my calculations, he shouldn't have been eligible at 1b last year, let alone this year. At least not until he played in the 10th game of each season.
  4. No problems with the draft room at all. The reason I didn't bother with pre-ranking players is because the pitcher points messed it up to where it would have been a huge mess trying to pre-rank players.
  5. I've climbed on board the Piniella bandwagon. I was very skeptical at first, preferring Bochy. But, Piniella has brought back an excitement that I haven't really had in a long while. He's definitely saying all the right things. I can only hope that translates to doing all the right things, also. I like the coaching staff he's assembled. And I do like that Lou doesn't just accept things the way they are without a fight. When an umpire is calling everything a ball, Dusty would sit there like a bump on a log. I can hear Lou giving the ump a dose of what he's got coming for squeezing the strike zone. I can also envision Lou inspiring his players to give their all everyday. Dusty's laid back approach seemed to have players standing on their heals rather than the balls of their feet. Some of this is just perception, but it feels good to not have to critique every single thing that comes out of the manager's mouth for once.
  6. I'm not impressed with those projections. The Mets will score more runs than any other team, followed by the Phillies, then possibly the Cubs. The Cubs will not give up that many runs. They have the makings of one of the best bullpens in the NL. If they give up that many runs, it's because Prior didn't pitch all year and Marquis was allowed to pitch all year with a 6.00+ ERA. Dodgers 3rd, and behind the Padres? I don't think so. Dodgers rotation is every bit as good as the Padres with a better bullpen and a much better offense.
  7. I never bothered pre-ranking. It's too difficult to navigate anyway. I just queued up the players I'm interested in and will use the auto rank for any surprises still available.
  8. Because Izturis is penciled in at SS without much of a battle, I can only hope that Cedeno gets plenty of reps in AAA to rebuild the confidence he lost. We will never know what kind of, if any, added pressure was put on Cedeno by Dusty. Dusty was known to give the kids a hard time, which coupled with playing in front of large crowds and a veteran team that is counting on you, could have taken it's toll on Cedeno. He's shown the ability to play outstanding defense at SS. He's shown the ability to hit well at the major league level, even if it was just a small sample size. The Cubs need to get Cedeno back to that point and continue his development in Iowa. It's quite possible that Cedeno will be the SS once again in 2008. He needs a break out year in AAA or as Izturis' injury replacement to prevent the Cubs from having to go shopping to fill the SS spot, since money next offseason could be quite sparse.
  9. I think it's ridiculous to single out anyone. If they really want to single someone out, it should be Steinbrenner and whoever happens to be GMing the Boston Red Sox (Epstein). They are the one's who were most guilty of raising the bar. The other teams do what they have to do to compete. If the Cubs didn't pay Soriano, someone else would have. Same for Zito. And those contracts really aren't as bad as Gary Matthews Jr., Gil Meche and Juan Pierre, to name just a few bad deals this offseason. The Cubs haven't won a World Series in nearly 100 years. For years, they've been the team that cheated the fans of opportunities to build a good team by spending money. Chicago is a big market city. Not only have the Yankees spent ridiculously, Selig has approved trade after trade where the Yankees eat most of the salary. The Yankees do not deserve a pass. But, honestly, do any of us really care what Bud Selig has to say anyway? He's a horrible commissioner who has served his position way too long. Give the teams who have to pay luxury taxes the hard time. Afterall, they are the one's who spend more than any other team. And in the Yankees case, nearly twice as much as any two other teams combined.
  10. When did this discussion move to Trevor Hoffman?
  11. Floyd has been very successful when he does steal bases. Another quote that I like from Lou.
  12. I'm sure that can be done. It could even be done during the regular season if a team wanted to; a team isn't REQUIRED to use a DH instead of the pitcher (and, in fact, I believe there's a rule that if the DH replaces a player in the field the pitcher must bat instead of another player DHing for the rest of the game. Why would the AL teams want to limit their pitcher's hitting even more? There are what, 17-18 interleague games. That's around 8 or 9 road games where the pitcher is even more clueless at the plate.
  13. Well, there are 160 some odd players that are not up for grabs. Kind of hard to find a superstar player with that many players locked up already.
  14. The funny part about Wells is that the Padres lowballed him even though San Diego was where he wanted to finish his career. He went to Boston instead. Padres traded arguably their top prospect for him at the deadline.
  15. David Wells was traded to the Padres for George Kottaras last year at the deadline. Wells was 43.
  16. I don't think I'd draft Izturis in a 60 team league.
  17. The hope would be that the long man comes in for blow out games (Cubs winning, of course) to rest a guy like Prior. We should attempt to spare him long outings and much over 170 IP. This team very well could be playing in October, and they don't need a taxed rotation. Hill and Prior shouldn't be anywhere near 200 IP, IMO. If the starter gets through 5, the pen should be able to take it the rest of the way. Not every starter will get pulled after 5. The extra off days at the beginning of the season gives the pen extra rest, also.
  18. I think the only thing negative about Jones' defense is his arm.
  19. And with Marquis being one of the rotation arms, they will DEFINITELY need a decent long man that can go several innings. That battle probably comes down to Cotts or Miller.
  20. 24/7/365 Think about it. You just penciled in 3 days in June for the draft, 2 weeks of Spring Training and a 1 hour daily highlight show. 24/7/365
  21. The Fielding Bible had Neifi ranked ahead of Izturis, FWIW. I hope we don't end up missing Neifi by midseason. Of course, Detroit would probably love to give him back at this point.
  22. Actually, I think he does have to convince the Rangers.
  23. Uh, what? I know it's not your fault Vance (you just copied it), but that author who wrote that must have made a typo somewhere. If TB called heads, and it came heads, how did they not win the third pick? One of those facts must be wrong. It is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They had the choice of 3rd or 4th pick and evidently liked their chances with the 4th pick more. Sort of like choosing to kick or receive. :D And it is the Cleveland Browns. They're probably pissed that Tampa took the 4th pick instead of the 3rd pick. :D
  24. Would the Cubs have offered Maddux arbitration? I'm not so sure they would have.
  25. Yeah, Aybar probably more closely resembles Hanley Ramirez because of the speed and AVG. I noticed you didn't say anything about my Royce Clayton/Orlando Cabrera comparison. :D
