  1. Actually, no. Another 10 pages of pointing out Theriot's true value to the Cubs. Utility infielder.
  2. It would take the equivilent of "more" than Rich Hill to get Greene, actually. So it's rather pointless to even bring his name into it anymore. Furthermore, if the Cubs beat out San Diego for Fukudome, does anyone honestly believe the Padres would turn around and trade one of their best players (Greene) to the Cubs as well? Pie/Prior/Cedeno/prospect? Yep, they might just do that. Hendry won't, however. At least I hope not. I would also imagine that one of those guys will be in the Brian Roberts deal.
  3. April/March: .299 .347 .328 May: .256 .330 .367 June: .224 .272 .276 July: .348 .437 .483 August: .276 .315 .353 September: .202 .257 .263 Which one of these is not like the other? Hint: It's July. That's not a couple unproductive months. That's all unproductive months save one good one and one mediocre one. Wow, Theriot was nearly as tired in June as he was in September.
  4. I can assure you that Towers would be willing to wait another year for Prior.

  6. I don't think there's a single person who posts at NSBB who wants Theriot OFF the team. If there is, you'd have to search for quite awhile to find them. Theriot is a more than adequate BACK UP. Ryan Theriot wasn't tired at the end of last season. He was proving his marginal value. The "tired" excuse might just be the lamest thing I've ever heard. As far as options at SS, I'd give DeRosa the everyday job over Theriot. The Cubs have sacrificed offense for defense for too long. I watched Theriot all year, and I've concluded he's a 2b playing SS. He doesn't have the arm or the range to be a great shortstop who provides good offense, rather he has the arm and range to be a mediocre SS who provides inadequate offense. If that's all we are getting at SS, I'll take a poorer fielding Mark DeRosa and his good offense every time. I'd also give Ronny Cedeno another chance, also. Last year we saw an old Mark Loretta playing SS and we saw Brendan Harris playing SS. If those guys can play SS, so can Mark DeRosa. Granted, those guys played on losing teams, but I'd argue that if you put a good enough team on the field to cover up defensive inadequacies at SS (sacrifice the little improvement Theriot would provide over DeRosa), you could win a division with poor defense at SS.
  7. Everyone was on the bandwagon for Theriot to play over Cesar Izturis. There's a big difference between being on that bandwagon and being on a bandwagon to have him be the everyday starter next year. I like Theriot. As a bench player.
  8. Speaking of Cuban, it seems as though everything Cubs is on the back burner. That sucks.
  9. Heh. Don't stop there. No one on the Cubs roster last year was a true RF. Not Jones, not Floyd, not Murton and not Ward. It's nonsensical to play musical chairs in RF with 4 guys, all who are not RFers.
  10. They need to get that boy out there shagging balls at SS right now. I don't care if it's dark.
  11. I'd say Pie, Cedeno and DeRosa with the Cubs picking up some of DeRosa's deal. In other words, not worth the cost.
  12. You should care about more than that. You should care if the person in charge of personnel on this ball club has a vision of how to make the team good in 2008 and stay good for many seasons to come. I don't think Hendry has that vision. He also appears to change his vision of what this team needs to move forward. Guys who can catch the ball, guys who hit left handed, etc.....
  13. Oh no you didn't. Please tell me you aren't referring to Cesar Izturis.
  14. Easy. I asked Hoops if DeRo mentioned the possibility of playing SS, Meph mentioned that the Cubs should trade for Greene, someone else claimed Greene sucks offensively and defensively, everyone else thinks differently, voila.
  15. LF Soriano CF Pie RF Kosuke 3B Ramirez SS Theriot 2B Roberts 1B Lee C Soto might be able to push across 800 runs. If we get Roberts, I don't see any way that they don't bat him leadoff. While I wouldn't put it past Dusty Baker to send that line up out there, I don't think this poster is implying that this should be the line up.
  16. And you'll still be in last place, and only a year away from losing Rios to the highest bidder via free agency. Those crap players somehow find themselves traded at the deadline quite often. Dave Roberts has already been a deadline deal at least once. Wynn would be another candidate for that. The Giants flat out suck right now. There really isn't anything they can do to change that anytime soon.
  17. The right deal. Yes. Alexis Rios is not that deal, however.
  18. The staff has the potential to be dominant. Zito, Cain, Lincecum, Lowry and Sanchez is the foundation for turning things around. Trade the crap players on offense at the deadline to improve the offense and make some decent FA pick ups and this team "could" be right back in the saddle in 2009. Trade the quality arms, and you have absolutely no shot of turning things around anytime soon.
  19. they'd be idiotic not to look at other options if they're seriously considering Inge that said, last i read is they're looking in-house (Nomar, LaRoche, etc) Surely they have a crappy middle infielder that we could get in return for DeRosa. Yeah, I'm bitter.
  20. Well, I had it all under control anyway. :D
  21. Getting these players wouldn't be a step backwards. But, to finally address this problem 5 years later is rather pathetic. And, while it's all nice that they are talking about Roberts and Fukudome, neither has a Cub jersey of their very own quite yet. That he is still around to make these decisions is the biggest problem of all. You shouldn't get as many chances as he's been given.
  22. Wow, were you ever late to this party. :D
  23. Yes, that makes me feel so much better after hearing about yet another round of freezing rain, snow, and sleet that's making its way through here tonight and all day tomorrow. Thanks for finally putting that smile back on my face. Well I had to scrape ice off my windshield twice in the past week before work. Is that better? Holy crap, I'm now so giddy that I've piddled myself. Keep up the kind words, fellas! And if it's any consolation, it poured down snow one of the days I was in Peoria for Thansgiving. In fact, the weather turned to crap the day I got there.
