    I don't know. Tony Womack - '03: 349 at bats, .226/.251/.307. OPS+ 40. '04 with Cards: 553 at bats, .307/.349/.385. OPS+ 93 (career high). '05 Yankees: 329 at bats, .249/.276/.280. OPS+ 47. Nunez - '04: 182 at bats, .236/.275/.319. OPS+ 56. '05 with Cards: 421 at bats, .285/.343/.361. OPS+ 84 (career high). '06: 322 at bats, .211/.303/.273. OPS + 48. John Mabry's 4 best seasons were as a Cardinal, his best after being cut by the Mariners at age 34. Al Reyes, Kiko Calero and Josh Kinney all came out of relatively nowhere to have great years as key set up men. Fernando Tatis had ops+'s of 118, 140 and 118 for the Cardinals and then disappeared. Kent Bottenfield was a career swing man who won 18 games with an era+ of 115 as a starter in '99. Of course the most obvious example of Cardinals luck is Chris Carpenter.

    Tough year for the 'Stros. those are professional journalists and we're just armchair gms. you have a point. Almost as good as when one of their sports staff said Shawn Estes would win a Cy Young for the D-Backs because he won 15 games in Colorado the year before.

    I don't buy the Albert Pujols ruined him argument. I think Garner overused him horribly in '04 and '05 and this is the consequence.

Carpenter is definitely going to suck this bad for the rest of the season. He just didn't look right. ESPN's gun had him at Prior/Miller velocity for the portions of the game I could stomach. I didn't pay that close attention but I could have sworn I saw 92/93. Maybe I just saw some slower fb's. I couldn't stand Joe for very long. There were a lot of sliders that Joe for some reason called fastballs. He was around 91-93 and topped out at 95 from what I saw. He clearly didn't have it though.
