  1. They might lose there female demographic if they do that. All six of them will understand. It just makes them look stupid. Although it brings some quality passive-aggressive digs at his employers by Wynalda, which is entertaining to me at least. I'm basically undecided as to which MLS team I want to support, and that crowd made me wish I lived in Toronto. That was a blast just to watch. I wish Phoenix had a team as it seems like an economic slam dunk with the gigantic latino population and the support would probably be top 4 in the league behind Toronto, LA (thx Becks), and DC. I really don't understand how San Jose got a new team and now Cleveland is in consideration (stupid Drew Carey) ahead of Phoenix. These are the e markets they should expand to in the next 5-10 years: Phoenix, Philadelphia, and either Montreal or Vancouver. If I were them I'd do a demographic study and whichever looked best I'd choose. With the way Toronto has embraced MLS and the growth of Canadian soccer in general, that should be another slam dunk.
  2. Ronnie Brown - RB - Dolphins
  3. I never said having a high slg gave you a more selective batter's eye. I said it raised your obp. If you have a higher average, you'll have a higher obp. It's how it works, but you know that.
  4. Go Cubs? Nah.
  5. Me too, why not.
  6. Joe Carter disagrees. Beyond the onjectionable use of the exception to the rule to prove a point, Joe Carter didn't have elite slg. This guy would be the best example http://www.baseball-reference.com/g/gonzaju03.shtml No he isn't. Look at his highest slg years and you'll find some very serviceable obp's. As his slg rose, so did his obp. This is probably the best exception, but he still doesn't have an "elite" slg.
  7. Joe Carter disagrees. Beyond the onjectionable use of the exception to the rule to prove a point, Joe Carter didn't have elite slg, but yes I agree that obp is more important. I'm just saying they aren't mutually exclusive.
  8. That makes no sense. On base percentage has a higher correlation to runs scored the choice is clearly the player with the higher OBP. I think he is saying that since a high slg correlates to a high obp and not the other way around that he like slg.
  9. Rick Ankiel prefers slg fueled OPS, whilst I think not creating outs is more important. Although since there is a correlation between slg and ops, maybe you'd want slg? Nah, obp is better...
  10. No. The suggestion is that Landon isn't used to it because of his choking in past highly publicized situations (Germany, World Cup '06 etc) and that maybe it will be good for him to see how Beck's handles himself.
  11. Sounds good.
  12. It's a very weak hope, but I hope the increased media attention and scrutiny the Galaxy will be under will help him get used to playing well under heavy expectations. If that biffed header in the Chelsea game is any indication, it probably won't work out. You mean the header that you'd have to try and miss? That's the one.

  14. Yay, he gives up :!: Because there's nothing to respond to. You rarely answer any direct points and you pull "facts" out of thin air and refuse to budge on them even when shown to be mistaken or wrong. It's like debating with a brick wall. No that's like arguing with brinoch, who suggests that theriot would be caught more often if he attempted more often. And the only thing he uses to suggest his theory is that pitcher's would pay more attention. I've seen Riot run the bases and there are very frequent pick-off attempts and I don't think anyone would argue that. brinoch on the other hand still can't support his argument, so he simply quits. :D The crux of your argument seems to entail what you actually see. You can't see everything. Your argument is severely flawed. I happen to follow the Cubs quite often so the idea that what I see isn't good enough is retorical. Are you implying that I have bad eyesight? No, I'm flat out saying that your eyes can't show you everything pertaining to a player's numbers and abilities short of you seeing every game and every play and having multiple angles and reviewing tools to do so, and even then you're still going to get things wrong. I see every game broadcst on WGN, ESPN and FOX. I watch the whole game and every time I see Riot or Fontenot on base, pickoff atempts are frequent, and this is just an idea but I doubt pitchers only pay attention on games that I see. Wow.
  15. Um I guess Brian Westbrook, Randy Moss and Matt Hasselbeck...
  16. That is bad. I assume I have first pick?
  17. Then I'd really have to go ahead buy that Fulham kit. Btw, if anyone can link me to a #23 Fulham jersey I'd greatly appreciate it. I can't find one anywhere. I was looking for a figure, but it was £3,000,000, which is a lot more than $3,000,000 - around double. I think I read his fee was something like 6.5 million which broke Reyna's record of 6 million. Clint being the highest MLS transfer sounds right, although Eddie Johnson might break that. Please no more talk about Rossi. I don't want to think about how awesome the potential US version of Teves and Messi would be like.
  18. Landon is small, but saying he is too physically small for the EPL is garbage. I'm not saying what US said is garbage, I'm just saying it is glossing over the most important fact. If he had the heart, he could play and play well at his size. It isn't that he is too small it's that he plays too small IMO. He's not nearly physical enough was my point. If he had more of a Rooney mentality (who's not that tall) or even Javier Saviola, sure, but he's of slight build and I've never seen him physically outmuscle a defender. Rooney is the perfect example, even though he is a bit more built than Landon. I don't want to say lack of heart, but I do think he could be more aggressive. I really like Landon too. Despite his shortcomings, he is my favorite player, so I'd like to see him prove everyone wrong. BTW, I thought Tim Howard move from Man U to Everton was the largest fee for an American player? How much was Clint's fee?
  19. In fairness to Landon, that was his excuse the first time and he was only like 18, so it's understandable. The second time he just didn't want to put in the time or effort to be a starter when he could just come to LA and be a star right away. Landon is small, but saying he is too physically small for the EPL is garbage. I'm not saying what US said is garbage, I'm just saying it is glossing over the most important fact. If he had the heart, he could play and play well at his size. It isn't that he is too small it's that he plays too small IMO. He has said that the only European league that intrigues him is the EPL which I don't get. Apparently he speaks fluent Spanish and who in their right mind would rather live in England than Spain? It's colder, rainier, worse food and a harder league (apparently LD likes his comfort when it comes to his soccer). He should go to a mid level La Liga side. I honestly think it would be great for him and he would play better than many expect. The only reason I could see this happening is because now LA has two designated contracts over the league max and each team only gets one unless one is from a trade. They would be forced to trade either Beckham or LD and obviously Landon would be the odd one out, and if he doesn't want to play anywhere other than LA, Chivas sure as hell isn't going to sign him and he could be forced to look overseas.
  20. Landon contemplating EPL move? Could be interesting. I'd like him to do it and maybe get over the whole disappearing in big atmosphere games that aren't vs Mexico thing he has going.
  21. Not really, MLS is getting 1.6 mil of the transfer fee. RSL gets only 400,000 and 150,000 of that they owe to DC as well as a third round pick from that awful trade. But yes, the important thing is that Freddy is where he needs to be. I'm no MLSphile, I'm very happy he has moved on.
  22. Here is my gift for you on this occasion: http://images.jupiterimages.com/common/detail/38/22/23042238.jpg
  23. This is why I think the teams should get more of the transfer money.
