  1. you are right here we go. If the objective the leadoff hitter is to get on base, Theriot & fukudome are getting the job done. Soriano has the mentality of an rbi hitter...not a leadoff hitter. Very low sample size on the stats. Common sense tells the story. Beyond that, I didn't know message boards were to squash conflicting opinions. David Spade...i thought you put me on ignore. The fact you respond to every one of my posts tells me you lied about that or are so anal you feel the need to respond to all of my posts.
  2. those stats scream loud that Theriot should lead off followed by Fukudome. That would put two of the higher OBP guys at the top of a very powerful order & maximize the offense.
  3. why be honked at Mariotti? Does the truth hurt?
  4. I'd settle for a recommit to the farm system followed by actual consistent success to go w/ reasonable ticket prices.
  5. because one of their starters sucks? Even more confusing would be why the Cub would be interested when they have a team chock full of #3-#5 starters.
  6. quote]I think people put a bit too much emphasis on trade deadline acquisitions. Every year we hear about the guy who is going to put some contender over the top, but it rarely works out that way. agreed. This is why you deal for your needs in the offseason. Your prospects are less likely to be uncovered for the frauds that they are when they aren't playing :D
  7. We already have #3-#5 type starters. What do we need another one for? It's a #1 or #2 or bust.
  8. correct, but remember the all-star game is more on hype/popularity. On a curve it is the best all-star game in pro sports, but digress. Soriano needs to be more focused an upcoming minor league rehab (unlike last time) than the annual popularity contest that is the all star game.
  9. If they wouldn't trade Roberts then why would they trade Guthrie? I've toured the Orioles Hangout board occasionally & they are under the allusion that if they somehow acquire FA bound Mark Teixeira, a Baltimore native...that they will then be in contention. I've never seen a set of more delusional fans than them. One to assume they would be able to get Tex & two...that they would compete w/ the yanks, jays, red sox & rays if they did somehow get him. They want to resign Roberts as a result & actually think he'll be interested in resigning.
  10. Actually, much of the time when he's leading off he's in a slump. He is simply a streaky player at his best. Secondly, why is it that his is the only ego that needs to be massaged? It's best for the team to have high obp guys hitting in front of guys that hit for extra base hits. That is simple common sense. Lou only leaves his there because sori is "more comfortable there". He also left him in left in the late innings until his countless drops finally tipped his hand to pull him late in games. Now he's done it several times. It is quite obvious that lou is catering/pampering him. This has been a knock on sori since he broke into the major leagues. I thought lou was better than this.
  11. why? that's like hitting a slowpitch softball. It's pretty simple, really. His obp is nearly 100 pts higher & unlike fuko, soriano is more of a power threat. It makes so much more sense for soriano to hit fuko in than the reverse, especially when fuko is more likely to be on to be hit in than the reverse.
  12. This is a cubs message board & last I checked, fuko played for the cub. The question was raised about fuko being a disappointment. It was then brought up about his batting slot. His obp being well over .400 screams that of leadoff hitter. Another pointed out a more productive offense through stats backing. Sorry, you are out of line on this one.
  13. guys like fuko w/ little power but high obp hit leadoff. He would be one of the premier leadoff men in baseball based on his obp alone. He's just being used incorrectly as is Soriano.
  14. a very low obp in the first inning. The team is having success due Fuko's heavy on base % & overall patience as well as the bottom of the order getting on base & showing patience. The emergence of Soto as well.
  15. The O's fans on orioleshangout.com are completely delusional in terms of Roberts' value. Most were/are in favor of keeping him as they think they'll get Teixeira in the offseason & then challenge for the title. They will get nowhere near what the Cubs offered them in the spring. I maintain the Cub needs a leadoff hitter like Roberts, but the far bigger need at this point is a #2 starter, an upgrade to Edmonds' lefthanded bat in center & another bullpen arm in case Marmol's falls off.
  16. what larry said. when you have to pay other teams a lot of money to take your player from you...that's your first sign it's a bad contract. It's what we'll be doing w/ soriano in another couple yrs w/ 4 more yrs left. Also, to blame sori's horrible play in left on the sun...wow.
  17. say the same thing 20 times? No different than many of you that say the same things over & over. Same difference. Only difference is that your opinion differs which somehow makes it alright in your mind to say it over & over. In regards to Cpat..i heard an interview of him by Santo one time. Santo asked him how his approach is different coming off the bench rather than starting. There was a long pause & the soft spoken Cpat said...I'm not as much into the game when I come off the bench. It's just not the same. It was a very odd answer & caught Santo off guard. I never had confidence in the kid after that exchange. I just do not like guys like cpat & sammy & sori that just do not understand the strike zone & just swing at damn near everything, do not take walks & do not take pitches to tire the pitcher, work the count & do what is best for the team. I'm not alone in this criticism although the baseball people that agree do not post on message boards for a living. Oh well....
  18. why? This article is spot on & many of the same points I've been saying since the playoff sweep a year ago. Soriano is being pampered & judged differently than the rest. His performance is abysmal take away a few days here & there. It is clear Lou is either softening in his twilight age or simply saving face for Jim Hendry. Soriano clearly has lost his legs & they evidently are not coming back. The fact he is still leading off is a joke & only hurts the team. His play in LF speaks for itself. The contract is an albatross & will be for years to come. I thought the Hundley contract was one of the worst I'd seen. Then it was Sosa. Soriano's makes those look like a non-issue by comparison.
  19. You & several others are here must be watching a different game than the rest because Soriano clearly has blown as many games as he's won. Why does he get mentioned so often? Because he's a very easy target. He has no legs, can't play in the OF, is about the least clutch performer as it gets in baseball. Has no patience at the plate even though his spot in the lineup calls for it. Brenly is fully aware of it. Why aren't you? Lou continues to cater to this baby. It's like keeping him happy is more important than winning games. It's almost as bad as it was during the Sammy era the last 2-3 yrs. This team goes nowhere in the postseason if it thinks Soriano first, team second.
  20. if what hendry says it true (all about performance) then when will soriano be sent to Iowa?
  21. if theriot's steals are horrible then what do you call soriano's average, obp, baserunning, fielding, average, etc...what have i missed? Theriot is playing circles around the soriano...the mental midget.
  22. same arguments? So Soriano blows yet another game & I'm not allowed to post because I complained about him when he lost a prior game? Some on here are allowed to complain about Theriot incessently despite the fact he is putting up a strong obp, average & steals while our $18 mill man has sucked for all but half a dozen games. So only people that defend soriano & slam theriot are allowed to post? How is that?
  23. what's your point? Any defending of Soriano right now is really naive.
  24. We may not win w/ Wood but we also will not win w/ Soriano. He is a loser & Lou is catering to him.
