  1. according to Bruce Levine on espn 1000 this morning, he said the cub has been asked not to spend any more money until after the sale that is now projected to be mid-Jan. Funny how it keeps getting pushed back further & further. He said by the time you add in all the spare parts & fill in the roster, you are already at the $140 mill that is the current soft cap. He doesn't think the cub has the authority at this point to even sign Bradley...much less Peavy. Still getting offers on DeRo & some interest in Marquis if the Cub eats half his salary.
  2. 0-6...yeah...it is just irony. Just had six "bad days" in a row. My bad.
  3. I never said anything about Ceda. He is really irrelevant when it comes to Gregg's gas cannedness. Oh..& Hendry does suck. All he's proven to be is a fat man that can spend a lot of money. He'd be the perfect Yankee GM. What has he done to improve a team that is 0-6 in the postseason the last two years? Our offense is flawed. Even Lou said as much last year when in preseason he talked about the parts not fitting together. Soriano is Sosa revisited in his last contract. Only this time, we won't be as lucky in trying to pawn his contract off on someone else.
  4. Gregg is a gas can. He walks way too many guys for a reliever. I was not in favor of resigning the overpriced/overhurt Wood either but Gregg will be an irritating bust IMO.
  5. we could field quite the team with monies from players that Hendry has given bad contracts to. Marquis, Soriano, Fukudome lead the list. You have a low end major league team w/ just their money.
  6. why stop there? What about Gary Gaetti? Todd Hollandsworth? Cmon...let's brainstorm!
  7. Kelly Johnson appears to me to be Mark Teahen. We need a LH hitting RF that can hit it the middle of the order. We also need a leadoff hitter IMO although that is a whole 'nother thread :D
  8. We have Dero, fontenot & theriot already at 2B potentials. hendry is trying to get the Cub more left handed so Kelly Johnson doesn't do much for that endeavor.
  9. what Sooner Cub said. Hendry is looking for a LH middle of the order hitter, a true leadoff hitter, a middle reliever & possibly an upgrade at SP...in no particular order although the LH hitting hitter is the main priority.
  10. 1) it is always assumed the Cub would have to pay part of Marquis' salary regardless of where he is spun to 2) The Pads have asked for major league ready pitching in return for Peavy so they can field a respectable team
  11. you mean like DeRosa? Theriot should be at 2B & hit second as his batting personality is perfect in that spot. DeRo is a great utility player from the right side/Fontenot from the left. A healthy Furcal leading off at SS would solve any perceived fielding deficiencies at that position while solidifying the leadoff position w/ a very high obp/baserunning at the top while adding a lefthanded bat. Soriano when right is a great extra base hit man that would be well suited in the 3 or 5 hole. At 3, he should see more fastballs due to speedy baserunners & baserunners in general. He has proven to be a dead red fastball hitter. Getting Peavy would be icing on the cake although a thumping, lefthanded right fielder like Abreu or Milton Bradley would be my preference.
  12. there is no reason to hold on to roberts or to resign him when you are in rebuild mode. they will not compete for years & by then the ship will have sailed for roberts. If he doesn't want to go to a winner then he is a loser right along w/ Giles.
  13. Players that don't waive no trade clauses because they just want a paycheck when they have a chance of going to a contender are losers. As far as looking at one stat. I agree although for a leadoff hitter, that is one of if not the most important stat just like rbi's/slugging % is for middle of the order guys.
  14. they have also talked about a priority of being "more athletic" which means position players/hitters. Furcal, Roberts, etc. come to mind. Resigning Wood is a very low priority. Beyond that, he wants a 4-yr contract which isn't going to happen w/ the Cub...nor should it.
  15. The O's are the exact same w/ Roberts. He is a very good player, but is certainly not worth what they think he is. He is a FA at the end of the year & they are talking about resigning him. Nevermind the fact that he'll be 38 by the time they compete again. MacPhail is a douche.
  16. Despite what Lou said, I think Hendry is still bird dogging a trade for Peavy. I'd love to get Giles in the deal & swap Marquis so their two salaries are a wash. The Pads are looking for young arms but would also need a major league ready arm & Marquis could fit the bill. Giles in RF would look great IMO. He has a near .400 OBP, has always been a very good hitter except his numbers get lost in Petco. He would be a far cheaper, but productive alternative in RF. I agree that we do not need Peavy but it is almost too good to pass up. Sometimes strengthening a strength is the way to go. Who knows, maybe Giles could even lead off :D
  17. I think it is extremely important, especially at the top of the order.
  18. as is writing off OBP for leadoff hitters & hitters in general....
  19. I never said anything about Soriano until someone else brought him up. My original post never mentioned him at all. Now that he is brought up, he shows similar batting characteristics to Greene. Having too many heel swingers in your lineup is good for slow pitch but real bad when forming an MLB lineup.
  20. Fontenot is a similar player to Teahen & Marshall is a perfect swing guy to keep. This rumored trade makes little to no sense for the Cub. The Ceda for Gregg trade is also a joke. Hendry is infamous for the head scratching trade.
  21. Who is obsessed? I said zero about Soriano although you brought him up. Getting on base & taking pitches while swinging at good ones are characteristics of good hitters. Good hitter & Greene do not belong in the same hemisphere.
  22. this guy gets on base w/ the same frequency of a little league 9-hole hitter. No thanks.
  23. ok...so...several of you have conversations w/ Lou Piniella & Jim Hendry as well as various Cub players on a regular basis...or...ever? OK...gotcha.
  24. as bad as paul sullivan might be...he most certainly is more privy to Cubs inside info that most of you are from your basement computers.
