  1. Angelos is an idiot. There is a reason they have finished in the bottom of that division for so many years. While they have great young talent, it will take that & then some to climb that hill. Hanging on to Roberts like a cherished baseball card makes zero sense on that team if your objective is to win ala the TB Rays. Ironically, Roberts is exactly what the Cubs have needed two years in a row. Oh well. You watch though...Hendry will get him "Gaetti-style" in about three years \:D/
  2. I sure hope you feel better after flexing your message board muscles. It must be nice sitting back on a keyboard singling people out like you are "all that". Being "all that" on a message board in the grand scheme of things is the equivalent of playing solitaire at the kitchen table. You are the man. If you are going to be allowed to flap your mouth on here about others than I'll flap mine back. I could say the same about the triumvirate of you, Dextermorgan & derwood. A trio of message board hero's.
  3. You can make a huge laundry list of wasted $ that Hendry has been involved in. Adding Aram for a bag of balls is about the only smart move he's made. I'm sure there are others but his poor moves way outweigh the rest. He needs to be gone. If this farm system does not start developing talent (not AAAA talent either) then that needs revamped too. It's all about the farm system. The $120 mill budget should be for plugging a hole w/ top talent here or there...not for building a roster. I've always admired how Kenny Williams does things. He is proactive & does not tend to sign off on as many long-term, no trade contracts. All Hendry does is handties himself.
  4. I'm very relieved we did not add another Hendry stiff like Teahen or the like. We have a team full of these guys. I'm still miffed as to why we pissed DeRosa away in the offseason, however. To see the $ saved go to nothing but Bradley is a joke.
  5. when you say "cut your losses". Please define that for us. Do you mean...cut Jim Hendry? How much $ can one guy waste over a 5-yr period? We could field an MLB baseball team w/ the $ he has literally thrown away over that timeframe.
  6. This is the single dumbest thing i've read on here & i've read a lot of dumb things here including those that think he should lead off because he "hits leadoff home runs". How often does he do that? Three times a year? If so, is that like drawing the golden ticket or something when you are up 1-0 three times/year?
  7. not only am I not, but why in the hell are you allowed to attack someone else's opinion freely like this? Something about internet strength I suppose.
  8. I didn't see big OF bat or leadoff hitter either.
  9. let's flip that around. Why have you & others always loved Sorry-ano? I fail to see the team benefit to his act. The comment about needing to be told if he was starting the day before so "he was ready to play" should remove all doubt about his idiot-ness. The addition of yet another dropped flyball in left yesterday was icing on the cake. I've never seen a major league baseball player drop as many fly balls as him. Let alone one that also makes as much $ as him & flails at any pitch between the dugouts.
  10. let me guess...you want your man sorry-ano back up there don't you? He can't lead off. He can't play left field. He cannot hit or run anymore & has never taken pitches. He's now a malcontent & has 5 more no trade yrs of bust the bank contract $ coming his way.
  11. so...because he has hit 3 leadoff homeruns in the last three years, you guys want him to still hit leadoff? Even w/ his dreadful OBP? Wow. And yeah, I would rather have a walk than a solo homer. Why? Because you have to be incredibly dense to think that a homer will happen more often than a walk followed by a run scored at some point in the inning following the walk.
  12. how many leadoff homers by him caused the Cub to win games? Since you guys think his leadoff 1-run homers are so important, tell me how important it has been in leading to wins. Everything about his play is selfish from preferring to bat leadoff to not changing his ways in left. His stupid hop in LF is another huge sign. So is his swinging for the fence w/ two strikes, trying to pull everything, swinging at the first pitch in lieu of taking pitches to start a game to flailing at breaking balls continually. For Lou to finally bench him & then put him in the 6-hole is hysterical & way, way, way overdue.
  13. anyone but sorry-ano there works for me. We've seen his ineptness there long enough. He has no plate discipline, no mindset for hitting there, does not take pitches, etc...etc. His solo leadoff homerun record is his problem in a nutshell. it's all about his stats & not about what leadoff men are supposed to do...get on base so you can be knocked in.
  14. freel was sent to the royal for a bag of rosin. case closed.
  15. for the "more plate discipline" crowd, the Brett Jackson pick won't do much for you.
  16. cat dragged in? does that make soriano more worth the $ by you saying that?
  17. 8 more yrs of overpaying & seeing soriano flail at the top of the order because he "feels more comfortable" hitting his meaningless solo homers while striking out 30% of the time is enough to get my vote.
  18. shilz said go back & read pg #3 & you'll get up to speed. i was joking in response to someone joking that soriano should close.
  19. vance wrote actually, yes. I'm loving it greatly. I am a cub fan first & it is very important to the Cub success if he is effective this year. I disagree greatly w/ his usage & w/ his mentality as a leadoff hitter. I certainly root for his solo homers as much as anyone, however.
  20. soriano close? Nah...he has his hands full as our bunny hopping, solo home run, free swinging, "i only feel comfortable leading off" guy.
  21. cubs26 & others defending KGregg...i have one question. Did you watch any Miami Marlin games last year? This guy is a gas can. Heilman & Marmol are our the only quality arms in this bullpen. The rest are die rollers...
  22. am I the only one that has concern w/ the fact that it appears Hendry has painted this team into a corner needing to win in the next couple of yrs or go into full rebuild mode? The farm system appears to be dreadful w/ little to no high upside prospects or depth. I have always been a big fan of Hendry for his aggression, but has that strictly been a characteristic of "one w/ big checkbook"?
  23. Bleacherreport.com has Soriano 12th of 30 leadoff hitters & they sum him up pretty well:
  24. why? Because he gets on base 50 pts higher & scores more runs than Soriano? The main measure of a leadoff hitter is runs scored. With 76 last year, he was near the bottom in MLB in runs scored for leadoff hitters. Why? Because he does not have a leadoff mentality at the plate. He has more of an rbi producing mentality.
