  1. how is my posting on soriano any worse than you (derwood) piling on every time i do? there is a chic trib article that talks about the Cubs' biggest targets/needs in the offseason. Not surprisingly, one of the few mentioned is obtaining a leadoff hitter. Hmmm
  2. does piling on make you feel better? It's funny how some go w/ the masses when it comes to opinion so they can achieve high school-like popularity. Since this is a message board where everyone is anonymous, popularity is irrelevant to me. I'm all in favor of trading Derek Lee for a middle of the order lefty as well. I just happen to think Soriano is an overpaid, one dimensional player that has never performed in the clutch. Since he is handled w/ such kid gloves & plays at such an important postion as a catalyst to the lineup & eats up so much contract...& we are now in the offseason, it is a hot topic once again. A majority of articles i've seen & radio shows i've heard, talk mainly about the handling of soriano.
  3. leadoff...obp+speed...whatever position it ends up being.
  4. stock dickton? too funny. Pining for Stoney...big time.
  5. It won't be at my expense as I have much more of a life than it appears many on here do. To go through searches to prove a point on a message board is about as low as it gets folks. What exactly have you won here? I'm sure it was made in the context of appearing we were going to land him & what else was needed around him. Even then, I was pulling for a lugo pickup as I knew leading off soriano would be a huge mistake like it's turned out to be. I consider soriano a "me first" in the line of the sosa years. For the guy that told me to quit attacking other posters. I only do that after i have repeatedly (for months) been attacked. I'm then attacked in triplicate after that so that is classic pot calling kettle. At the end of the day, this is a message board for opinions & not for winners & losers of arguments. Many on here have their own hard on for a certain player. Mine happens to be one that has 3 hits in two postseason series. I think I've made a case for mine.
  6. I can assure you I didn't. I've never liked his selfish play.
  7. How are you not an idiot? I am no more a troll than those that stick their head in the sand & claim we just ironically had a bad series...just like last year. How ironic would that be?
  8. There is a reason Soriano was ran out of Texas & New York & will eventually be in Chicago as well. He is very overrated as a hitter as he piles on lefty's & righty's that lack off speed pitches. He is one of the league leaders in fly balls...something you do not want your leadoff hitter to do...same goes for strikeouts. He is not much of a threat on the basepaths any more & has never been one to understand the mentality of taking pitches at the top of the lineup. Have I mentioned he's a poor outfielder? He hit .250 against right handed pitching this year w/ a .312 obp. His playoff performances speak for themselves. One thing is for sure...he will not be the Cubs leadoff hitter next year. You can bash me all you want geniuses, but this offense has proven it is flawed when it counts & will be fixed.
  9. Here's some facts for you Soriano defenders. He hit .250 against righty's w/ an obp of .317. He has clearly shown how piss poor of a clutch player he is w/ his 3 total singles & no extra base hits in the last two playoff yrs & a propensity for idiotic statements in the press following his awfulness. He wracks up numbers against poor lefty's during the season to pad his stats. He will not be hitting leadoff for the Cubs next year. He was coddled two yrs in a row & Lou is surely smart enough to know that by now last yrs debacle was not a fluke as we just saw the rerun this year. This team will go back after Roberts as he is a lefty that is patient, a good hitter & has a leadoff mentality. Soriano is a mental midget like many on here that defend him when there is no defense of him. Fukodome needs to either platoon w/ Reed or be sent down. I'd like to see the lefty Ibanez brought in as well. I would not be surprised to see DLee traded as 1B are a dime a dozen & Lee seemingly leads the league w/ 6-4-3 double play at bats. In fact, Lee is one of the leaders in the league w/ hitting ground balls while Soriano is one of the leaders in fly ball outs. Neither have the mentality to hit where they are hitting based on that alone. It should be the opposite.
  10. He's not? OK...how many runs has the ultimate leadoff hitter produced in the postseason the last two years? There is your answer.
  11. if the contest is to lead the postseason in strikeouts, no extra base hits or rbi's two yrs in a row then yeah...he rules at that. I've said for two yrs, he is an extremely poor leadoff hitter & is not a player that can consistently be counted on when you need him. I'd love to see him gone along w/ several others. The offense needs to be able to manufacture runs. That starts w/ strong obp & speed at the top...neither of which he brings.
  12. I predict that for the second year in a row, soriano will go 0-fer the series w/ tons of strikeouts & no walks. What an incredibly overrated, overpriced, unclutch, poor excuse for a leadoff hitter.
  13. You mean like today? He is a butcher in the field. He needs to be a strong offensive player to make up for it. I love his production, but streaky hitters have no place in the leadoff position. 3-6 would be preferable. I only post when he sucks? I suppose, but the same could be said for those that blow his horn only when he is on a streak. He doesn't work the count at all. He swings at horrible pitches. He is Shawon Dunston at the plate w/ more pop. Shawn was not a leadoff hitter either. The stupid hop he does when he does get under a flyball is incredibly annoying. Another enabling trait he's allowed to continue.
  14. no link. Sorry..my source does not publish. I do have ties into a minor league Cub team, however, & I get info from time to time passed down in some fashion.
  15. my sources tell me the cub has offered Marmol plus a minor league IF prospect to the Red for F Cord & Dunn. Interesting although I would not shore up the offense in this fashion only to dilute the bullpen. FCord appears to be a brand of gas can.
  16. troll? so you can call people names on here, but can't post about Cub players. Is this a message board or http://www.soriano.com?
  17. it was posted because it was relevant. This team has struggled mightily to score runs & after an extremely short rehab assign, he whiffs by flailing in his first at bat. This is a game thread & he had just whiffed so I figured it was relevant. I love the Cubs, but I hate Soriano. Sorry. The Cubs will be around long after he is whiffing in a slowpitch softball game somewhere in a few yrs.
  18. not the point schwimmer. How about get on base like a leadoff hitter is supposed to do so Lee hits a 2-run homer. Scoring runs is more important to the cubs than soriano being babied.
  19. Soriano sets the table w/ a whiff in his first at bat back...right on cue.
  20. Greene blows. He is Alex Gonzalez w/ long hair...the wrong Alex Gonzalez.
  21. Add Jerico to dexter as the ones who post smartass remarks after the argument slows down to discussion only to get things stirred up again. They just come back w/ the personal attacks as that is their style. For those doubting major league scouts did not say these things then I don't know what to tell you. Soriano does put up numbers but they tend to come in bunches rather than a consistent flow. To me, that is not what you want out of your leadoff hitter. He bigtime tanked in the playoffs last year & the offense slowed to a crawl as a result. Is Soriano a great hitter IMO? No. Is he one of the best when he is streaky? Yes. We've discussed the reasons why lou puts him there. They are the same as why he didn't pull him in the last innings when he cost us ballgames through his fielding debauchery. He now gets pulled in the late innings, but that took a lot of courage for lou to do it. Soriano's psyche is fragile & lou handles him w/ kid gloves as a result. That's why I've made the comment about this being the Chicago Soriano's in lieu of the Cubs.
  22. david & big...i appreciate the discussion. That is refreshing opposed to some of the rest which are no more than personal attacks/digs. This all started when I went to spring training & spoke to several scouts from different teams. I coach baseball so I'm always interested in seeking out info beyond that of a casual fan. I hated Soriano at the top last year & asked their opinions on the Cubs in general. This was right around the BRob to Chicago furor & nearly to a man...each brought up the whole waste of a leadoff hitter in Soriano. I just find it funny that major league scouts whose job it is to follow baseball collectively are wrong & a handful of message board posters have it right.
  23. the thread is about theriot's uncanny ability to get on base which is the main job of a leadoff hiter...a direct correlation to my post as to why he should be the leadoff hitter.
  24. here we go again w/ the personal attacks. I am giving opinion & you come back w/ the personal crap. It appears you are the one that has the issue. The thread was about Theriot nearing the top of the league in obp & one of the more effective leadoff hitters. The guy that likes theriot hitting 9th so he can get on in front of soriano. Wow! That is proving my point exactly! If you like him hitting in front of soriano, then why wouldn't you like him hitting in front of him to start the game? Some of you act like this is high school & you choose to side w/ the majority. I have news for you. The majority from those in the know in baseball think it is a complete joke that soriano leads off. I talked to several scouts during spring training that said this. In fact, they told me Lou wanted Roberts & when the deal fell through...the only reason soriano stayed is because of his delicate ego. He also tried coming back so he could play in the all star game & brushed off a minor league rehab only to proceed to commit little league flyball errors in his first games back.
